Luke Bilyk's performance of a young Elvis in DC's Legends of Tomorrow was pretty well done. And though it had some supernatural elements, it did play on Elvis' love of Gospel music. How about next you do a list of Top 10 Elvis impersonations by fictional characters?
My favorite portrayal of elvis is definitely Austin, He put everything he had, his heart, his soul, everything he had into researching, reading, watching, learning. He honored him in every way possible, hes an amazing actor this is the only movie that has made me cry & I'm so glad a good elvis biopic has finally been made, the movie definitely deserved the 12 minute standing ovation💜💜💜 I love everything about elvis his blue eyes, his lips, his smile, his voice, style, dancing & music, his kindness & sense of humour, he was perfect in every way & there will never be another like him😍 I love how Austin showed Elvis's humanity & who he really was as a man, Ive watched the movie 5 times already & will never get tired of 💜💜💜
No joke Austin Butler was so accurate at Elvis a couple times in the film I thought his portrayal was too good, and that they must have slipped deep fake cuts of Elvis over Butler. The guy knocked it completely out of the park. The voice, the facial ticks, the movements and dance moves. As a life long Elvis fan I was absolutely blown away. He genuinely deserves all the praise he's been getting for this film.
They did deepfakes in the 60's movie footage and when they dunked his head in water. Put Elvis' actual eyes on hi in the water, and put Butlers Face on Elvis in the 60's outdoor pool movie bit.
And he also only sung the 50’s stuff which he did well enough. The rest he only sung a few other times. On the floor on if I can dream and at the piano on here comes Santa clause as well as in the suite with a few background cuts. The rest was Elvis. He did a fine job though and I saw it 5x although I thought the personal portrayal of Elvis was too depressed and angry. Elvis was far more fun loving. Not to mention they failed to show his generosity.
They did a deep fake at the party scene where Elvis sings A Little Less Conversation in the 60's film "Live A Little, Love A Little" it's Austins face superimposed over Elvis's, also, "old Mcdonald" scene on the back of the truck from "Double Trouble" Kurt Russell and Austin Butler are the best of the lot. IMO.
@@LONEWOLF-1970 I agree that Butler does not really look like Elvis and my fave as far as looks was Jonathan Rhys Meyers. I found myself thinking oh, lord Austin Butler looks nothing like Elvis, how are they going to pull this off but they did. I didn’t think anyone would top JRM as Elvis ( IMO JRM still looks way more like Elvis) but I have to say, Austin Butler nailed the role other than the fact he don’t look a lot like Elvis in the face. He got the voice, mannerisms, moves, etc. it was all on point. I expect this film to win awards just like the JRM one did.
Just saw a movie of him an hour ago. Immediate thoughts were, he could’ve been so much more in life but was held down and fed lies and pills. Truly an American legend that never had the opportunity to be more than what he wished for. He paved the way for stage presence and celebrity persona.
Well remember the current movie is highly stylized and trying to blend a fictional story with a real one. The director wanted Elvis to be a superhero comic book character..which is emotionally fun but not realistic. And he was telling the story of Faust, where the devil as Tom Parker bought his soul. Elvis was as much his own worst enemy as his handlers. His long haired record producers were as destructive to him as his posse and Parker. There's film of them getting high with him on the way to concerts. Lots of pop singers ended up just like Elvis...divorced, worked hard and dead from alcohol and drug abuse...some woke up before it was too late to realize they were broke millionaires as their managers, appetites and friends had spent all their money. VH1 is full of "But sucess proved too much for Johnny Bravo" documentaries. Elvis was big. He likely couldn't have been any bigger in those 20 years. He sold 10s of millions of albums and many many more millions of 45s. He was in a score of movies...always popular. His concerts sold out even when he was bloated and bizarre looking by his 40th birthday. He put a great deal of energy into his performances, which was hard on his heart along with his lifestyle. Pills or no pills he might have died that day. The autopsy showed his colon was enlarged and filled with gray plaque. He had horrible constipation from his fried junk diet. The sudden swelling in his face after 75 was not just overweight. He burst a blood vessel trying to void his bowel that day. He truly was the whole package of a uniquely talented entertainer. 1968 seemed to be his greatest year of stunning and more mature performances.
@@valmacclinchy couldn’t agree more. Baz was the perfect person for this movie. The directing was so wow! it was perfect for such a big personality like Elvis. Austin also was phenomenal
I'm 63, so I grew up watching Elvis's movies and performances on TV. Before seeing the new Elvis Movie I would've said Kurt Russell was my favorite, but Austin Butler's performance absolutely blew him out of the water. The only thing I found missing in Austin's portrayal was he/Baz failed to address Elvis's sense of humor. He was a very funny man, loved to joke around laugh and make silly faces, and Kurt did a great job capturing that part of him. It will be very difficult for anyone to beat Austin's look and performances, so I think the Elvis Movie will be the quintessential Elvis biopic for decades to come, possibly forever. And if Austin doesn't win the Oscar for this performance I'm personally petitioning the Academy!
Andy Kaufman performed well as Elvis....I was surprised! But, my man, Austin.....it may turn out that YOU we're the GREATEST Elvis Impersonator OF ALL TIME! And it just so happens, my Grandson looks very much like YOU. His name is Jason. He has your facial features and mannerisms. You could be twins! Be PROUD Austin of your unbeatable performance in "Elvis"
@@dedebones1967 Everyone has their opinion and I'd put him behind Kurt Russell. He looked more like Elvis in the face, but he's too short and did just okay on his voice and mannerisms. Plus he didn't sing or play the guitar or piano. Kurt Russell didn't either. Austin did ALL of that.
@@michelleallred8521 AUSTIN was brilliant as ELVIS ! He spent 2 years in Australia perfecting to copy ELVIS he had a voice coach singing coach and Polly Bennett dance and movement teacher! He was dedicated to being ELVIS! And he did AMAZINGLY Became ELVIS! So far I have watched the movie 7 times!
In interviews, both Baz and Tom Hanks have said cast members who weren't required to be on set would show up on their day off to watch the filming of Austin's performances because they were so mesmerized. Austin's performances were so electric and spot on, they felt just like they were seeing a real Elvis concert. Baz said one of his longtime staffers (30 years I think he said) pulled him aside and said, "Boss, what's going on? I ain't never seen anything like this. I'd PAY to be here." Baz also said the reactions you see coming from the audience extras were not scripted or acted. It's their genuine response to Austin performing because they filmed the songs from beginning to end, just like a real performance, no cut/action to do another take. THAT's great acting!
Thanks for that! I'm not shocked! Brilliant AWESOME MOVIE ARTISTIC AWESOME BRILLIANT MOVIE! ACTING AT ITS BEST! OSCORS GALLORE FOR ELVIS THE MOVIE IS SENSATIONAL ARTISC AWESOME!
@@kyleelvis3577 Pretty sure Baz said in an interview that they filmed the performances as if it were actually a concert. They may have done more than one take for each one, but I got the impression there wasn't a lot of "Cut! Action!" going on.

@@TheElvis57 I wanted to see the movie for the third time but the silly cinemas here in malaysia pulled it out fast. The crowd here prefer fantasy action, not biopics unfortunately
I've seen many portrayals of Elvis. Some good and some not so good but Austin Butler knocked them out of the park. Throughout every decade of Elvis's life Austin nailed it. So glad that Baz made the film because it has given the younger generations a chance to see a truly magnificent man who made such a difference in the music world and shaped it into what it is today. Elvis will never die! ♥️
Austin Butler did the best portrayal of Elvis ❤ He looked like him, had his voice down, his mannerisms and even sang as Elvis in the 50s and 60s. This movie was so beautifully done and as Lisa Marie said it was done respectful and accurate
Actually, they used Elvis recordings for the 60s. Austin sang the 50s stuff and they blended it with Elvis’s voice. The reason Austin sang any of it was because none of the recordings from the 50s sounded modern enough to use in a modern movie.
Austin Butler Amazing amazing actor I have never seen such a real emotional delivery that I managed to live that time for more than 02:30 minutes dancing singing acting with faces and mouths and visceral expressions a spectacle of acting Elvis Presley deserves this star that appeared in the cinema.
Kurt Russell did have the slight advantage of being someone who knew and worked with Elvis on the film "It Happened at the World's Fair", so he had some idea of what the man was really like.
The new ELVIS movie is absolutely amazing!!! Austin Butler is incredible & should receive an Oscar. I cannot stress how incredible his part was. Television wise, I'd say Kurt Russell did a pretty good job as well
When I first watched the Elvis TV series I was blown away by St. Gerard's performance. He was amazing as Elvis. I think he definitely needs more recognition for this role.
Elvis was born to be an icon, he passed away as an icon and remains an icon, Elvis is the only man that is considered impossible to tell a story the story of his life. Elvis is the only man on the planet that had an unofficial state funeral, after decades of passing away, he remains relevant to the world, he is well known worldwide and never performed outside the USA
I watched the film and sort of enjoyed it. Then I went home, watched the '68 Comeback Special - and was thrilled. No offense intended to all the people who work hard pretending to be Elvis, but the greatest Elvis will always be the original. You just can't equal, much less beat, the genuine article.
Hands down, the best performance was Kurt Russell. Nobody could touch his performance. Until Austin Butler. Now he's number one, and nobody could ever top his performance.
I hope Butler gets an Oscar, he was PHENOMENAL. For me his was the definitive Elvis portrayal, they don't even need to bother making more Elvis movies or series.
I have watched Austin Butler's performance as Elvis 5 times and every single time he got me more and more impressed on how freakingly impressive job he did, but..... what bothers me is that they seemed to forgot his silly sense of humor, the guy smiled like 4 times and laugh hysterically 1 time in a almost 3 hour movie. 🥰
Kurt Russel actually worked with Elvis as a kid. That had a great deal to do with his portrayal. It would be nice to see an honest depiction of the man in a film.
I think Michael St Gerard resembled him amazingly well and did an exceptional job playing him in 1990. Kurt Russell was good too. I'm impressed with all the work Austin Butler put into the part
FYI, Ronnie McDowell wasn't an "Elvis impersonator". He was a legitimate country star who could also sing like Elvis when he wanted to. Ronnie had 14 Top 10 Country hits while NOT singing like Elvis.
No one could ever match or Ever have the charisma Elvis had …. He is the King and always will be ….generation after generation he will still live on .._
I never saw any portrayal of Elvis that was any good. i saw Kurt Russel but it was always Kurt Russel pretending to be Elvis. It just wasn't believable. But Austin Butler magically did something in this 2022 movie. You forget its Austin up there. I can't explain it any better than that. And people are going back to see it two, three, and four times. I know it's Austin Butler, but I am transformed into a fan watching the real Elvis. Also, because Austin has been able to do this, and has gotten so much praise, people now really like him too. We want to know who is this guy and what's he gonna do next? That's my take. I hope Austin does win Best Actor at the Golden Globes, the SAG and of course the Oscars. The Presley family wants it for sure. Kurt is also short. Elvis was 6 ft tall and Kurt is like 5'8". Also Austin sings, KUrt doesn't. no comparison.
Elvis was a tall man at least 6 feet. and Kurt might be 5'8". Kurt also can't sing at all. These are part of the reasons I don't like the Kurt portrayal. a tall man should be Elvis. I always like Kurt in his movies, but when is he ever NOT Kurt Russell? It's like asking Tom cruise to play Elvis. Tom isn't ever anybody but Tom. Clark gable was always the "star" Clark gable. That's not acting. What Austin did was act. It deserves an award.
I agree totally. One thing I love about Austin's performance is *the SWAG* ... That steady, confident stroll. Kurt would walk so fast it was like wth is this guy???! Those Vegas scenes where Austin strolls on the stage talking to the Colonel, and the rehearsal scenes. Confident, swagger Elvis. The scene at the Hollywood sign. ❤❤ Austin nails it!
@@SheenaRea I saw it again yesterday and paid attention to little things. And noticed the swag and strut of elvis. Austin doesn't really walk like that but elvis always did. I really enjoyed the two scenes of elvis planning his entry music. Bobba-bob, bobba-Bob. And telling the guys in the band "go up an octave". Also he changed from the red shirt into a blue flowered shirt and worked with the drummer... Tat tat tat... Austin completely nailed it I can see why the presleys cried. I see Austin in interviews and he is not elvis. But he is a very charming cute man. That makes his acting even more superb. BAZ is a great director.
Elvis is 6ft tall Austin is 6ft tall Elvis is originally blonde Austin is originally blonde Both have blue eyes. Both lost their Mum's at age 23. Austin sings all the 50s Elvis songs and his voice is blended in with Elvis for the 60s and 70s songs. Austin was born to play Elvis and I don't think no one can ever top that performance!
Elvis and Me, a mini series based on Pricilla Presley’s book of the same name was a favorite of mine. It felt it made Elvis very human and stripped away much of the glitter of the King.
It's awful IMO, the book is better. It didn't only strip the glitter away, Elvis had a lot of good human qualities, whereas actor Midkiff just makes Elvis come across as mean most of the time, I don't think it's a good portrayal of him.
@@ikewp901 I have read the book a couple times. And, I agree that the book is better. The book would not be well received today nor would the series. I liked the series. But I think it really cheesy now.
You do know that EVERYONE around has told MAJOR problems with that book. If you read all the other books they balance it out. Priscilla has rewritten history for herself.
Honestly after checking all of those before watching the new one Austin Butler blew them all out the water the dancing the acting the singing it was the best one in my opinion I loved it
Kurt Russell was good, but I just saw the Austin Butler “ELVIS.” By far, the best! From the side, he looks just like him. I wondered if he sang in it. I figured he did, since performances were sometimes different than what really happened. He did a great job of moving, and moving the audience!
Butler sang all of Elvis’ 50’s and early 60’s songs. “That’s all right Mama” and “Trouble” in particular were really great renditions. Some people refused to believe it was Austin singing though. To the point that Baz Lurhman posted a video of Austin singing “that’s alright Mama” during his screen test. It was before he went through two years of vocal and movement training, yet it was still spot on. I don’t know if this sub allows you to post links, but I can look up the songs comparison links for you. If you would like me to.
@@reneebush2399 Thank you! I would love that! I’m glad for the clarification on Austin Butler singing. I was almost positive it was him. Yes, please send me the link if you can!
For Austin to spend 2 plus years preparing for the Elvis roll in itself was phenomenal. The end results spectacular. The not funny faces or not smiling enough in the movie was not Austin's fault but the writers and director's decisions what to be put in the movie. What other actor ever took the time, energy and toldly embodied Elvis the way Austin did? This young actor Austin Butler I think made history in his performance. Even Elvis himself would have given Austin a very very long standing ovation. The Elvis movie should definitely win an Oscar. It's a stand alone movie. All others movies that came out at the same time are just movies in a series. TG Maverick continuation of fighter pilots and dog fights. Jurassic World Domination is continuation of dinosaurs going rampant and chasing people. And so are the rest of the other new movies. Elvis may have been done before but not like this one. In all the interviews of Austin Butler today he still has Elvis inside of him. I hear it in his voice and see it in his mannerisms and I think he will always have it with him. If Austin does not get an Oscar, I say shame on the academy. I'll be watching.
I have watched Austin videos next to the real elvis video damn the guy captured evry move facial expression with an astonishing exactness. Say what you may, Austin did immense justice to the Kings portrayal...it will be next to impossible to top that performance...
There is a book over 600 pages called The Best of Elvis: Reflections of a Great Humanitarian by Cindy Hazen & Mike Freeman, it tells the story. He did WAYYYYYYYYYYYY MORE THEN THIS!!!! He Donated the funds to have ST Jude built so every child with Cancer gets free treatment - even today, He bought the presidential yacht and donated it at auction to fund ST Jude too, He donated the money to complete the Kennedy Center in memory of JFK and declined to be the first to play as the founding member because he didn't want to seem political, He donated the funds for the USS Arizona in Hawaii to remember all the lives lost on DDay, He ended the Polio Epidemic inspiring 86% of America's youth to get vaccinated, He funded 500,000 European Refugees food, housing & relocation via Red Cross Donations. He funded an entire trauma wing at Midsouth memorial so 4 states of poor & youth can have free trauma care, he donated over 300 Cadillac alone, 300 brick homes, thousands of funerals, chemo treatments, millions of individual gifts of Jewelry, clothes, instriments, animals, make a wish were at every concert, hospital visits, even spent every night outside his home in Memphis, Beverly Hills & LA signing autographs, in the 1950's he even let fans that came from out of town CAMP ON HIS LAWN IN TENTS!!, He bought his childhood home in Tupelo and built a childs recreation center for poor kids, He signed autographs and gave fans tours at all the movie studios, even gave full fundraising concerts for Cancer fundraising, hurricane & tornado relief every year of his life from 1956, Elvis has donated to the same 55 MAJOR charities since the year he signed his 1956 contract even now every year 45yrs after his death. He gave away 86% of his ENTIRE lifetime earnings! Never wrote one donation off on his taxes besides being 95% of income bracket. Giving was his way of tithing for Jesus. He felt like the more he gave, the more God blessed him. These are only a mere FRACTION of his gifts! Google: Elvis Philanthropy and learn about the real Elvis. He was wonderful.
Elvis quit performing as much because of his MAJOR HEALTH problems. He suffered a Traumatic brain injury (a series of 4 in his lifetime actually). The last one being in 1967. He tripped over a TV cord and hit his head on a porcelain tub and knocked him out for over 6hrs!!! He even seen his Mom talking to him!!! DR Nick was called in immediately and this was before MRI'S!! The most underappreciated factor in the decline of Elvis Presley's health and early death was repeated head trauma. It is now recognized that multiple head trauma can cause an autoimmune inflammatory disorder that can attack any organ in the body. Contemporary terms for the pathologic developments that may occur following head trauma are post-concussion syndrome, TBI, and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Some of the post-trauma symptoms include memory loss, obsessive-compulsive traits, and irrational or illogical behavior.Elvis demonstrated many of these obsessive-compulsive and erratic behaviors at different times.A retrospective analysis of Elvis' head trauma clearly shows that Presley developed or accelerated his autoimmune inflammatory disease after his most serious head trauma in 1967. His previous bouts of head trauma probably contributed to his deterioration, as multiple head traumas are cumulative in effect. Autoimmunity following TBI has historically been believed to occur as a result of hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction. A new belief is that head trauma causes brain tissue to be jarred loose, and leak into the general circulation through the blood-brain barrier.²² Brain tissue is not supposed to enter the blood circulation because it is toxic or antigenic to the rest of the body. If this truly occurs, and this author believes it does, it acts like an infectious agent or vaccine in that it causes antibodies to form. These antibodies then become "auto" and start attacking normal tissue. It's even possible these abnormal antibodies attack and further damage the brain.Elvis clearly had a disease process that had affected multiple organs-stomach, liver, spine, and eyes-but at the time, his physicians had no idea that he might have had a progressive autoimmune inflammatory disorder. The concept of autoimmunity was just starting to be understood. Much to his credit, Dr. Nick gave Elvis the diagnosis of post-concussion syndrome, and believed his headaches were a result of his head injury of 1967. Dr. Nick related to me that, "Elvis was never the same after he hit his head in 1967."Dr. Nick prescribed only two of the many drugs found in his serum. What no one knew at the time was that some drugs, particularly opioids, may interfere with cardiac conduction and cause a fatal, sudden heart stoppage from cardiac arrhythmia. The most notorious example is torsades de pointes, a prolongation of the QT interval, which may occur when opioids and other drugs are taken together. This toxic reaction will most likely occur in a patient with existing heart disease. I now believe that Elvis' death was partially due to codeine, because he had obtained codeine from a dentist the day before his death. He took several tablets and had a serum level 10 times the therapeutic range.Just a few weeks before his death, Elvis became ill while touring in Louisiana. He developed nausea and symptoms of intestinal flu. He also had pulled a hamstring and strained his back. He entered Baptist Memorial Hospital for the fourth and last time on April 1, 1977. Anemia was found along with his chronic hepatitis, lung disease, glaucoma, hypertension, and megacolon.
I am not one to be obsessed with anything, let alone actors etc. I have always been an Elvis fan, but never obsessed. Just did not have enough time for it in the theatre. I WOULD GO SEE IT. MAY BE ON TV?
Austin Butler in the 2022 movie, ELVIS, is better than all the rest put together. I’ve never seen anything like it nor have I ever watched any movie more than once in a theater but I went THREE times to watch this masterpiece and had to hold myself back from going a fourth time. My dvd is on order and I will watch it again on my big flatscreen. Anyone who missed this movie in a theater 🎭 missed a young actor achieving greatness after almost three years studying his subject. Give him the Oscar!
It really is powerful on the big screen. I've seen it a bunch of times now, and just love how Baz put this thing together. The editing, sound editing, cinematography, is insanely excellent. And then there's Austin..... Wow!!!! 💯💯💯💯

@@artgalleryandcraftsbydeb9135 I hope it's true and there's a 4-hour version (as has been rumored). "Elvis: Director's Cut" *here's hoping!* 👍👍Yes, Austin embodied Elvis in a very nuanced way. Even down to the way Elvis walked and carried himself.
Nobody can touch Austin.. I actually felt like I was watching Elvis again at times..Austin Channelled Elvis.. All others don't even come close..Austin has that presence, and sense of humility on and off stage.. Austin and that smile he has.. No one will ever top Austin.. by far the best looking, and that is important..
One more to mention: Dale Midkiff in the TV movie, “Elvis & Me”, told from the perspective of Perscilla, it portrays the King in a less-than-favorable light, but Midkiff still turns in a good performance.
A terrible movie imo, the book is better than the movie, Priscilla said things were exaggerated for the effect on screen, and Midkiff's portrayal of Elvis is horrible, he just comes across as mean most of the time! Austin does a far greater job of capturing the essence of Elvis.
He did a good job but just didn’t look like Elvis but I love Elvis & Me because it use to be on tv all the time when I was a kid so I have a soft spot for that movie
Uh there were exaggerations in the Elvis 2022 movie as well! For Hollywood dramatic effect! And there were inaccurate details thin the movie that never happened in real life!
@Bryant Benson Since the late 50's, as a kid I loved listening to him on the radio. I use to own ever record and album he ever made and still have a few, but they are so worn you can't understand much of it.
I have seen them all, even a couple that were not shown here. Kurt Russell was the best .....untill this young man today emerged..... Austin Butler. Hec man it was almost uncanny watching Austin, every single gesture every move was Elvis to a tee. Even his body type was perfect. Some Elvis's have been a little too short in height. Others a little too short in the length of the legs and some even a little narrow in the shoulders. Honestly there were times I couldn't tell the difference. Was it Elvis or was it Austin? Thats how incredibly good this new kid on the block was. Elvis would have been so very pleased I think, and full marks to Austin Butler, what a total commitment to a role. I believe too, Austin did much of his own singing. Thats amazing. I hope he gets a well-deserved Oscar for what is truly a brilliant performance.
Dare I say it. Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis was immaculate, spot on perfect! Better than any of the other actor’s like Kurt Russell & Dale Midkiff & anyone else who portrayed Elvis on film.
Austin butler did an amazing job as being Elvis!! The Elvis movie is my favorite movie ever, all of the hard work Baz and Austin and other cast members have put in this movie is amazing. Definitely Oscar worthy!!
This is the best portrayed of all Times! Austin Butler brings Elvis back to Life. I´m A big Elvis fan and This Movie should win many Oscars! Thats my opinion❤
I really enjoyed the Kurt Russell telefilm as well as both the 1990 and 2005 miniseries. I haven’t seen the new biopic yet but I’m looking forward to it. He doesn’t look much like Elvis but appears to capture his essence as much as anyone could.
Austin Butler for sure! He nailed the looks, the voice, the moves. Kurt Russell did a great job also! JR Myers's moves and lipsync where too exaggerated.
I say Austin is way ahead of everyone else, I left that move thinking I had just been to a real live Elvis concert!!!! A sad life for him ! I wanted him to win!!!
I watched the 2022 Elvis. And then started watching all kinds of old videos of the real Elvis. What makes me sad, and confused, is Elvis' humor was NOT in this 2022 movie. And it seems the real Elvis had quite a noticeable, adorable sense of humor that he did not try to hide. After seeing so many clips of the real Elvis... I became increasingly disappointed with the movie's portrayal of him. It didn't show his silliness and how, at least when performing, he seemed so happy. The movie made it look like his entertainment lifestyle was hell. Maybe it was, but I think the real Elvis had an admirable way of enjoying his life, unlike the movie seemed to show...
They didn't show it because it is elvis's story from the perspective of colonel tom parker. Yes he is joyful and funny on stage and on media but what about his personal life? What about his struggles because of his damn manager who abused him financially? That's the point of the 2022 elvis movie. Austin butler did put a mic on his mouth in rhe movie tho like elvis did
Precisely. That's what I've been talking about since I first saw the movie. There is no Elvis without that delightful, endearing sense of humor, which was one of the keys to his charisma. And there is no Elvis without the contagious happiness on stage. Luhrman's Elvis is angry practically from start to the end. But I kind of liked the movie, and I can see Elvis in Butler, because the actor did a great job. I also understand the film as a beautiful tribute to the legacy of the King of rock and roll. Butler incarnated Elvis. The problem was the script, which failed to capture the personality of the King. The biopic shows a superhero Elvis against the bad guy Parker. After all, it's Hollywood. The human Elvis, however, is not there. That imperfect and captivating human being that I admire so much.
Most biopics I've noticed from over the years don't show the real personality. Don't read too much into it. It's all about the topic of the person, not the personality. Hector Lavoe, Selena, The Temptations, Johnny Cash, Marilyn Monroe, especially, you would never know that they were smart, funny, sensitive, caring, and giving people from their biopics. You have to read and watch biopics for that.
While Kurt Russell is the most naturally similar to Elvis (And even acted in a movie with him as a kid), Butler's performance as Elvis is hands down the best there ever was. Would it be as good if there wasn't a filming delay thanks to Covid? Maybe, but Butler himself said that extra time helped him to really nail the essence of The King. As someone here said, the only thing missing is Elvis' humor, but Austin's moves, mannerisms, looks and even his aura felt...Elvisy! None of that bad impersonation, he was just so genuine.
Austin is AMAZING, and Kurt Russell's portrayal is so memorable as well. I would add Shawn Klush in HBO's series 'Vinyl' to the tops of this list. Shawn is the arguably the best Elvis Tribute Artist in the world, and his acting skills keeps getting stronger. His portrayal in 'Vinyl' is memorable because his 'stage' presentation is as a tired Elvis; genuine, not perfect. And the 'after-show' Elvis scene feels absolutely authentic to Elvis.
I've seen the new movie 4 times at the cinema and twice so far on private digital. Still, just for 50s Elvis walking around and speaking, Kurt Russell nails that period. His live performances are a bit over the top but not bad.
Myers was bloody awful…even in the clip here you can tell he’s lip synching as his “singing” is not in time with the actual vocal!! And his moves are all wrong…and he never had a quiff in the whole production!!!
They forgot to add and mention the bio pic Elvis and Me from 1988. Staring Dale Midkiff as Elvis, he's the father from Pet Semetary. In my opinion he did pretty well as Elvis.
I can’t believe you omitted Dale Midkiff in the 1980’s 5 part mini-series Elvis and Me, on ABC narrated by Priscilla herself. Dale played him very serious and maybe a little more violent and frustrated than some like but it seems Priscilla wanted to show the darker side of Elvis more at that time. Anyways, Austin Butler is by far the absolute BEST Elvis and it ain’t even close. I’ve seen the movie 3 times. Austin played Elvis as a regular human being, didn’t over-exaggerate Elvis’s cliche mannerisms, and did much of his own singing in the movie. You believed him as Elvis more than anyone else who’s ever portrayed him.
Dale was too mean in this TV series. My daughter tried to watch it and left. I watched and was very disappointed. If Priscilla had any say in this thing, she should have made changes.
@@keetonplace Yes I agree. The thing I question about that is that Priscilla herself narrated it. So I’m not sure if she authorized Dale’s level of violence and psychotic behavior of if that’s what the producers wanted and she just went along with it. I was a kid when it came out in like 1988, and I just watched it in its entirety a little while ago. He played a very DARK, scary Elvis.
The difference between Austin and the other actors is Austin actually embodied Elvis, getting as close to actually becoming the King as is humanly possible. The other actors simply impersonated Elvis, mostly utilizing the exaggerated character traits that became popular and associated with him.
I watched the new film with Aston as elvis what a actor he should get an oscar but the colonel was a right Bastard taking his money and pushing elvis way 2 far
In all honesty whether we agree or not that Austin was the best at portraying Elvis it doesn’t matter. What matters is what Pricilla and Lisa Marie say. And if they say Austin was the best at portraying Elvis out of all the previous actors, that he deserves an Oscar/awards, and that he did a beautiful performance I think that’s all that matters. If they think Austin was the best then he was the best, period.
Actors that made my list to be honest with you? KURT RUSSELL & of course AUSTIN BUTLER and he can SING!!! They are both on top of my list! I have seen all portrayals, some are ok, so-so and really worst-- but these two actors did justice on Elvis' spirit!!
Baz needed a singer, because he didn't want lip synching til the end. But he didn't want an established singer.!!! That would not have worked. What famous singer wants to transform into Elvis plus work on it 2 years? Austin was the guy.

Luke Bilyk's performance of a young Elvis in DC's Legends of Tomorrow was pretty well done. And though it had some supernatural elements, it did play on Elvis' love of Gospel music. How about next you do a list of Top 10 Elvis impersonations by fictional characters?
Not sure
My favorite portrayal of elvis is definitely Austin, He put everything he had, his heart, his soul, everything he had into researching, reading, watching, learning. He honored him in every way possible, hes an amazing actor this is the only movie that has made me cry & I'm so glad a good elvis biopic has finally been made, the movie definitely deserved the 12 minute standing ovation💜💜💜 I love everything about elvis his blue eyes, his lips, his smile, his voice, style, dancing & music, his kindness & sense of humour, he was perfect in every way & there will never be another like him😍 I love how Austin showed Elvis's humanity & who he really was as a man, Ive watched the movie 5 times already & will never get tired of 💜💜💜
Butler and Russell, equal
Austin Butler period
No joke Austin Butler was so accurate at Elvis a couple times in the film I thought his portrayal was too good, and that they must have slipped deep fake cuts of Elvis over Butler. The guy knocked it completely out of the park. The voice, the facial ticks, the movements and dance moves. As a life long Elvis fan I was absolutely blown away. He genuinely deserves all the praise he's been getting for this film.
Not so sure about deep fakes but they did make a realistic mask to match the last performance of Elvis.
They did a deep fake at the party scene where Elvis sings A Little Less Conversation in the 60's film "Live A Little, Love A Little" it's Austins face superimposed over Elvis's, also, "old Mcdonald" scene on the back of the truck from "Double Trouble"
Kurt Russell and Austin Butler are the best of the lot. IMO.
Elvis' walk was so iconic- Austin got it perfectly!!
Austin Butler is hands down THE BEST Elvis portrayal EVER. Period
Agreed

Super agreed ❤️
Kurt Russell was the best looking Elvis. Butler looks nothing like Elvis.
Yes! He sure did!
And what's remarkable is that he left behind critically acclaimed recordings in multiple genres of music.
@@STho205 well written but riddled with clichéd inaccuracies.

I agree. Same experience for me. Austin deserves all the awards. Baz's direction is stellar, too.
Pensé que solo yo , vi eso, elvis en la película ríe poco, y en la vida real sonreía mucho y bromeaba eso si falto un poco
Andy Kaufman performed well as Elvis....I was surprised! But, my man, Austin.....it may turn out that YOU we're the GREATEST Elvis Impersonator OF ALL TIME!

So glad that Baz made the film because it has given the younger generations a chance to see a truly magnificent man who made such a difference in the music world and shaped it into what it is today.

Austin Butler did the best portrayal of Elvis ❤ He looked like him, had his voice down, his mannerisms and even sang as Elvis in the 50s and 60s. This movie was so beautifully done and as Lisa Marie said it was done respectful and accurate
He doesn't look like him at all kurt russell looked alone more like him but Austin butler acted and moved like him much bbetter

Austin Butler does not look like Elvis. Kurt Russell did and also did the best portrayal.
I always thought Russell was the best, till Butler did it.
Actually, they used Elvis recordings for the 60s. Austin sang the 50s stuff and they blended it with Elvis’s voice. The reason Austin sang any of it was because none of the recordings from the 50s sounded modern enough to use in a modern movie.
Austin Butler nailed the portrayal of Elvis. Remarkable and should have got the Oscar. ❤

Kurt Russell did have the slight advantage of being someone who knew and worked with Elvis on the film "It Happened at the World's Fair", so he had some idea of what the man was really like.
Kurt speaks very highly of Elvis. He liked working with him, called him a nice man.
It's amazing that all Elvis impersonators never look like Elvis - but they DO look like each other!!
The new ELVIS movie is absolutely amazing!!! Austin Butler is incredible & should receive an Oscar. I cannot stress how incredible his part was.

Just saw the new Elvis movie for the second time recently and it was just as good as it was the first time.
I’ve been listening to Elvis songs since I was a kid.
When I first watched the Elvis TV series I was blown away by St. Gerard's performance. He was amazing as Elvis. I think he definitely needs more recognition for this role.
I remember watching that series. Millie Perkins, who played Gladys, actually worked with Elvis on "Wild In The Country."
If Austin doesn't win an Oscar I'll be shocked!

Austin Butler in Elvis. He did amazing.
FYI, Ronnie McDowell wasn't an "Elvis impersonator". He was a legitimate country star who could also sing like Elvis when he wanted to. Ronnie had 14 Top 10 Country hits while NOT singing like Elvis.

I said that too. I said parts of it felt like a concert rather than a film
@@SheenaRea I saw it again yesterday and paid attention to little things. And noticed the swag and strut of elvis. Austin doesn't really walk like that but elvis always did. Also he changed from the red shirt into a blue flowered shirt and worked with the drummer... Tat tat tat... Austin completely nailed it I can see why the presleys cried. I'd forgotten that Jack White had actually played the King in "Walk Hard." He seemed to be having a blast in his cameo.
He looks so different in that role. I saw him in the Nashville airport one time going through security. He was so pale!
When I saw Austin's performance there were moments I wanted to scream because I felt like I was watching the real Elvis Presley.
Even Elvis would be happy with and love Austin's portrayal!!
He'd also be humbled with all of the others that played him as well.

Well Kurt Russell did
For Austin to spend 2 plus years preparing for the Elvis roll in itself was phenomenal.

Austin Butler is the best Elvis since Elvis Presley!!! 👍👍
I am not one to be obsessed with anything, let alone actors etc. I have always been an Elvis fan, but never obsessed. But after watching Austin’s portrayal of Elvis, I cant stop watching Elvis videos and Austin videos. I have not went back to see it, but want to and will buy it... Austin was the best. At first I said he just does not look enough like Elvis. But dang he looks good and he embodied him so well..or maybe Elvis embodied Austin..ELVIS was there, it felt like it was him AND THAT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. He became him and began to look like him as they added more make up. Singing the songs to perfection..NO ONE ELSE HAS DONE THAT...IT TOUCHED SO MANY IN A WAY NO OTHER HAS. While we can always find some things we did not like or wish they would have shown more of this or that...they did a fabulous job..to all who was involved....I have seen where BAZ SAID they plan to do a longer version and already have the material on tape. Just did not have enough time for it in the theatre. I WOULD GO SEE IT. MAY BE ON TV?
@Bryant Benson Why are you repeatedly posting the exact same comment multiple times? It's irritating.
@@stephenalanmoore7278 It's a bot.

Damned Straight!!!!!
Give him the Oscar!
One more to mention:
Dale Midkiff in the TV movie, “Elvis & Me”, told from the perspective of Perscilla, it portrays the King in a less-than-favorable light, but Midkiff still turns in a good performance.
None of the others is as good as Austin! He truly has all the spirit and charisma as Elvis himself. He nailed it!!
Austin did a great job! He made Elvis alive again! Sometimes he wás Elvis. The way he moved, looked, facial expressions
Austin had it all! ❤️
Austin perfected this movie so great .
Austin Butler by far is the best portrayal of Elvis.
@Bryant Benson Since the late 50's, as a kid I loved listening to him on the radio. I use to own ever record and album he ever made and still have a few, but they are so worn you can't understand much of it.
@Bryant Benson there are so many that I doubt I could name just one.
@Bryant Benson I would say the one in Blue Hawaii, Hawaiian Wedding Song, Burning , If I can Dream just to name a couple.
@Bryant Benson Charleston, SC
@Bryant Benson normally sunny hot with high humidity but has been raining for the past 14 days.
The difference between Austin’s Elvis and many other movies is that he has done his homework to become Elvis, not just portray him.
Austin Butler..hands down!..top shelf!😉👍
THIS MOVIE IS A MASTERPIECE AND AUSTIN IS A GENIUS
Ditto! Nuff said!
Elvis is my favorite of all time
I watched almost all the other biopics and Elvis the movie is the best tribute ever!!!!
not at all
Especially the concert scenes
I never realized how many movies of him are out there!
I haven't seen the new one with austin butler yet, so I cant say if my favorite has changed. Which has always been kurt Russell's version of him.
Kurt Russell doesn't look like elvis at all.
I agree!
AUSTIN BUTLER IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Austin Butler for sure! He nailed the looks, the voice, the moves. Kurt Russell did a great job also! JR Myers's moves and lipsync where too exaggerated.
I love Elvis ! a true classic in my opinion
I say Austin is way ahead of everyone else, I left that move thinking I had just been to a real live Elvis concert!!!! A sad life for him ! I wanted him to win!!!
JUST Austin looks like Elvis ❤️😍, no one else!
@@rafaelaborges3707 Well said.
This 100%.
Austin no question. Haunting. And beautiful portrayal.
The picture of Austin as Elvis is the best
I always liked Kurt Russell, but Austin nailed it. Nobody else even comes close now.
the only accepable portrayal of Elvis on popular culture are Kurt Russel & Rhys-Meyers but Austin did it perfect he needs all the awards next year
ABSOLUTELY. they are all saying Butler but it's only becauz it's new
@@benoitpisarchick6866 I love Kurt but Austin did better
Myers was bloody awful…even in the clip here you can tell he’s lip synching as his “singing” is not in time with the actual vocal!! And his moves are all wrong…and he never had a quiff in the whole production!!!
Jack White. 🤣
No, but seriously, Austin Butler was absolutely astonishing ❤️
They forgot to add and mention the bio pic Elvis and Me from 1988. Staring Dale Midkiff as Elvis, he's the father from Pet Semetary. In my opinion he did pretty well as Elvis.
That's because it is forgettable. Elvis as a mean guy was just not fitting. Not sure I ever saw Midkiff smile once. That's not the Elvis I love.
@@keetonplace that’s because it was based on Priscilla’s account;
Austin Butler but I respect them all. Also, you left out the small cameo of the King in “walk the line” who actually did pretty good
austin is a home run!
Kurt Russel was really good, I also think Jonathan Rhys Meyers did a pretty good job..But Austin Butler is the best, OMG he is simply incredible!!!
Many times during the recent movie I have to look twice Austin is so real.
Yes !! That movie was good and he did an awesome job i liked his performance the best
I think Austin Butler was the best of them all. I am a big Elvis fan and have been for years. I do not like impersonators. Austin wins the prize.
The difference between Austin and the other actors is Austin actually embodied Elvis, getting as close to actually becoming the King as is humanly possible. The other actors simply impersonated Elvis, mostly utilizing the exaggerated character traits that became popular and associated with him.
Austin is the best after all these years I still love Elvis 😊
Kurt Russell portrayed Elvis pretty darn good. Austin takes the cake as Elvis though.
I watched the new film with Aston as elvis what a actor he should get an oscar but the colonel was a right Bastard taking his money and pushing elvis way 2 far
You left out Dale Midkiff in "Elvis and Me" on TV.
It’s crazy to think that Austin went from an iCarly extra to playing Elvis Presley.
