- M23 Rebel Leader Denies Rwanda Backing
Allegations
Corneille Nangaa, the leader of the M23 rebel group in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has vehemently denied accusations that Rwanda is backing their operations.
Nangaa claims that these allegations are merely
"Kinshasa propaganda" aimed at diverting attention from the government's "bad governance".
In a statement, Nangaa emphasized that the M23 fighters are Congolese, not Rwandan, despite some of them speaking the same language. He questioned the motives of those making these accusations, suggesting that they are taking advantage of the DRC's "failed state" status.
Currently, M23 fighters have taken control of several streets and are managing the city's security.
Although calm has returned, the aftermath of conflict is still evident, with military trenches, spent bullets, and improvised explosive devices scattered around.
Residents are waiting to see what actions the M23 will take next, with many calling for the restoration of essential services like water, electricity, and internet.
