Filmed in the French Quarter of New Orleans at Yo Mama's, Beth Patterson plays, in her words, "a traditional English ballad" about loves lost and making the most out of life.

I'm Greek and this is my favorite Iron Maiden song....my brain is melting...THANK YOU!
So what does being Greek have anything to do with it, i don't get it.
@@giorgosk2884 Pretty sure this is an "Irish Bouzouki" which is sort of what you get when you allow a Greek Bouzouki and an octave mandolin to have a mutant baby.
@@Rocketsong AHAHAHA true!!!
I come back to this every few months. I never tire of it.
The Middle Way me neither. Probably the best iron maiden cover out there.
I do the same thing... I just listened to it back to back 4 times.
And me!
A year later... I’m back. Trying to get my wife to sing it while I play mandolin.
Me tooooooo!!!!!!!
While I love the original, and consider it one of the most memorable heavy metal songs from my youth, when I was young I was so enamored by the guitar and instrumental work of Iron Maiden on this piece that I did not pay much attention to the lyrics. I was completely oblivious to how insightful, sad, and poetic the lyrics were. It is only after growing older and more self-reflective, and revisiting several slower covers of this song, that I was able to ruminant on just how masterfully this classic expresses the sorrows that we all have of wasted precious time. Heavy metal has always been stereotyped by its detractors as being nothing more than bombastic music, bereft of substance. Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years" truly proves that stereotype wrong. Thank you for this moving cover that proves just that.
This is Adrian Smith's crowning moment with Maiden. Great cover! Up The Irons!
I love her reaction to the audience's brain dead, timid applause. How could you not be on your feet after that?! Pure fucking amazement! Gorgeous through and through!
Well said. She deserves more credit for her spin on this song. One artist that doesn't crucify a song.

You nailed 'Er man. She did a fabulous job. Just look and listen! Forget that other rockers popularized this song. Beautiful interpretation. She got the " juice" of this song...no takeaways on this performance.
I often came here over the years and I never quit without crying. This is so heartbreaking deep for me. Thank you for this song.
I wanted to write exactly this.
So well projected. Beth Patterson's connection to the song is so awesome and it all shines through her playing, voice and face. Great artistry. Truly awesome.
So brillant - and one more proof that a great song always works! Though I'm a Maiden fan - this version is fucking awesome! Wished there was a studio version - sigh-
Absolutely spellbinding performance Beth Patterson is THE best thing I've heard this year all she needs is a wider audience she is really talented
I think i've listened to this a dozen times or so over so many years. Well done.
I can't find the words to say, but you made me wanna cry...
Ivan Alessandro
I throw my arms up to the sky
Whoa this song is awesome on her bazooka or whatever, she's got a sweet voice!
I know; it's like hearing Heart or just Nancy Wilson do it.
She does, indeed.
Bazooka? quit the army while you can :D
Natalie Merchant is who it reminds me of.

Rarely have i witnessed an artist so at one with their craft , Beth Patterson you are one supremely talented musician .
My first thought was, "A lot of us have wasted years on the bouzouki" ... and then ... no, I'm lying. My first thought was, this is amazing!
I love reinterpretations of iconic metal songs. It really shows the quality and complexity of the music that many would pass over because of superficial reasons or the manner in which it's played. Your Natalie Merchant-esque inflection is a nice touch. Bravo!
I am excited to see rock and metal songs that I remember when they were originally released that have not only survived for 30+ years when contemporary pop music has mostly been long forgotten, they are now being performed, recorded and reinterpreted both _by_ performers, _and for_ new audiences, who are often so young that they weren't _even alive_ when the original was released.
You Tube videos of Beth Patterson are the best way to pass the time between seeing her play actual gigs. Long live Bethodism!!
Amazing performance.!
The best songs can be played in any style and still sound great...Point proven here.
Still as soul-stirring as the first time I heard it. Thank you, Beth.
I'm a huge Maiden fan and I just bought an irish bouzouki. No surprise I found this cover astonishing. Cheers from Italy :)
Watching my favorite son played in a very unique way was beautiful and refreshing. Thanks!
Truly fabulous version of a classic. Beth is awesome!
I love your version of this.
It should be in a movie soundtrack. Thanks Beth Patterson.
I have those same curtaints in my study. Also.... Beth Patterson is a great New Orleanian, and we love her.
This is still on my mind all the time. So beautiful.
Increible beautiful cover.. metal folk rules!!!!
So much talent. The playing. The singing. i wish you you could hear my applause. That audience did not know what they witnessed.
Simply stunning...the vocals are perfection...
For those that don't know, a ballad is, traditionally, a poem that tells a story, often set to music. This song is, to me anyway, about the amount the World Slavery tour took out of the band and how they want to enjoy what they've got while they've got it. That's a ballad to me. The 'traditional english' bit I think is just a bit tongue-in-cheek as she's doing an acoustic cover of a metal song.
Great sound. Well sung Beth, and an impressive bit of playing also; just love it.
One of the most beautiful Maiden'songs. Absolutely wonderful version!
I just can't stop listening to this.
you brought tears to my eyes with this rendition.
Saw her and the band play live. It was a great experience, even have a couple pics

It's an excellent performance and an inspiring demonstration of how the bouzouki can be used for unique solo vocal accompaniment. The voice and the texture of the backing strings (not to mention her skill and delivery) are an impressive combination.
Love this 💜🎶
