I recently did this swap on my 06 Sequoia. I was able to get the front driveshaft in/out by knocking out the studs on the front flange of the t-case. It's a tight fit and it's temporary until I get it shortened, but it allows you to get the front shaft in/out without removing the transfer case every time. Another option is to find a Tacoma front shaft that will work. Depending on the engine/tranny/body style the Taco front shafts come in +/- 27", 28", 29" and they bolt right up. For the rear shaft an alternative to having it lengthened is a Trail Gear Tacoma driveline spacer. They come in .75", 1", 1.25", & 1.5" and cost abut 50 bucks. Now if I could just get the 4HI & CDL lights on the dash to stop going haywire....
@@TruckMelanoma The case bolts up easily but then you have to cut a hole in the floor and modify the shifter significantly. Then there's the front add actuator which I haven't even figured out yet. I tried to make it cable operated but failed, running in 2wd at the moment. There's a recent vid on yt if you search Sequoia FJ swap.
What a fun looking 4Runner! I have a 2nd gen (2006) V6, Manual, 4x Tacoma and due to the Horrid electronic actuators, I swapped in a (2008) FJ Cruiser T-case (I had to split both my case and the new one to swap the input shafts to the larger spline that comes out of the RA60F Tacoma manual transmission) I went ADD delete up front and just manually put the front diff actuator in to position, closed it up and cut some wires at the ECU. Everything on the dash works perfect. What I want to do next is Swap in a 2UZ-FE V-8 engine (possibly from a 4th Gen 4Runner) and I'd like to know what Transmission do you run, that comes with the V-8? It should work with my FJ case.... Thanks!
I wonder if a dry sump would work for the front add diff you mentioned, upgrade and solution?? Not exactly the cleanest solution, however, it is intriguing.
Just found this channel at the right time, in the beginning stages of planning a race build for my 4th gen. What would the best mods be to start with? Don't have a ton of money for a budget to start but it's gonna be a long term build.
I’m thinking of doing this in my gx470, as the transshifter is on the opposite side, may make it easier, any insight would be appreciated, I’m sure it will be fine with no add front
This was a great video!!! My 03 V8 has a cracked Tcase and finding a replacement has been near impossible. I’ve seen this done on forums and was just wondering if there is any long term effects to not having an ADD front diff for daily driving and highway long trips. Is the Tcase going to be under too much stress from essentially spinning the front DS?
It builds up access pressure and it can push gear oil out of the shifter boot. Just have to make sure you keep an eye on the fluid level. Will happen more often in highway environments and daily driving. We have not seen any adverse affects in an off-road environment.
It has not been an issue in our application. Though highway speeds for long periods of time is where you'll see the issue occur. Everything in the case is spinning so it builds up pressure and will push oil out of the shift boot.
I have a 2002 Sequoia. 4wd center lock not engaging. Four wheel drive low and high engage on vehicle. But without center locked four wheel drive systems pretty close to worthless! Looking into the FJ cruiser transfer case swap into my 2002. anyone have any thoughts?
Only the V6 4th gen 4Runners had ADD. The diff swap is not completely necessary on the V8 trucks. Mine is working fine with the stock front diff still and I daily it.
I k iw its been a minute but Could you let me know what year make and model you got your Transfer case from.. I am have a tough time with the tcase motor on my V8 4runner..
No, there is not. You can wire things up so your CDL light is the 4Hi light and 4Lo lights when in 4Lo but it's not needed for anything to work properly.
@@mikerousseau Yes, I have. I use the Center Diff Lock light for the 4HI light. The wires are located at the 4WD ECU, under the glove box. Does the breather come out of the shift knob/plate or is it somewhere else on the tcase.? I had a twin stick fj case put in my 4th gen ad noticed its leaking from where the twin sticks go in.
It does not have a breather from my understanding but that's how it releases excessive case pressure is through the shift boot. Probably because you do not have a diff with ADD.
@@Lamepro1 Well that would certainly help. I am not sure then. I've only heard of that issue in that specific case. Just top it off regularly I suppose!
@@sherpamotorsports I've searched all over and found info on running the transmission and t case breathers higher up on fj cruisers but can't find any info on where the breather comes out of the tcase itself and its been driving me nuts haha
I’m looking to swap my 4th gen with an fj t-case but I’m having trouble finding one with the shift lever. What is the best way to solve not getting a shifter? Just go right to a twin stick setup?
No, youd probably need a RF1A tcasae(found in the 1st gen Tacomas) but it really depends on your transmission tho. But you can get twin sticks for it still
Any FJ Cruiser tcase that came from an automatic will work. You can't use the FJ tcase from the 6 speed manual variant as the input from the transmission is completely different and can't be changed.

Harrop elockers.

It must be from an auto transmission
What about the add actuator

Burnouts and fun off road
