Luke's lightsaber Motion Blur Test | The Mandalorian Fan Edit

- Just a fun side project. Nothing more, nothing less.
I know it's a nitpicking but I've always felt that the blade core is slightly dimmer in some shots especially when blurred. I’m guessing it’s a choice for new live action films and series since it also happened in the sequels. Or maybe it’s emulating an earlier version of ROTJ. I don’t know. It's definitely not that important but I personally prefer the old effects.
I love that they used LED props in the sequels and the Mandalorian. Lighting effects look more natural. But I’m so used to an unrealistically bright blade in earlier films. And I just wanted to see what it would look like with different motion blur effects. Well... Turns out it doesn’t change much. It’s so subtle I almost don’t notice the changes I made. I guess it blended in well with the original clips at least. Anyway, hope you enjoy a slightly different version of the scene from The Mandalorian finale.

0:33 That was amazing lol.
Didn’t even notice that the first time through 🤣
I actually did notice a difference right away. The blade looks brighter and the blur make me think more so of the prequel lightsaber effects. (Which were the best version of them, in my opinion.) Good work!
I like it much more than the old one. It stays true to the OT and prequel lightsabers with a better trail too. I really wasn’t happy seeing that lightsaber in the mandalorian, your edit is amazing.
epic,
i literally dont notice a difference but at least their are some cool Dark Trooper combat scenes compiled together!
Same
The original really does look like you can see the lightsaber prop in the swings, which do actually tend to look dimmer when in motion.
Your edit brings it closer to the movies where the sabers have a consistent brightness even in those moving shots, given they didn't even light up and the effects were added in later. Very well done.
Other then Pedro on the monitor (which I did laugh at)... I couldnt really tell a different... sorry, I'm just an idiot who practically watches your Maul video daily lol.
me neither tbf. It's hard to tell the difference unless you go frame by frame.
Thought I was the Only one doing it. I'm literally rewatching the Maul video every 3 days lol
@@klaustruthahn4185 hahaha. That's great. Honestly, it really shows how not only ruthless and relentless he was, but how haunted as well. He was super troubled and I feel that is something a lot of people can relate too, especially during these times.
Looks much better. At the end of the day it is a nitpick but I thought it looked like a prop or a green popsicle than a lightsaber, so this edit is satisfying to me. It’s more noticeable when he swings. Looks good when not in motion. The original I mean.
Way better! It kind of looks like a prop sometimes, this completely fixed that!
It's so well established since 1977 how the lightsaber motion blur should be. I can't comprehend how they can get it wrong with all the modern CGI we have.
Because the technology isn’t the same from 40 years ago. Lightsabers in the prequels look nothing like the OT.
And those films were made by the same man
You might need to rewatch A New Hope, because the motion blur (especially on Vader’s saber) looks just like the official version of this Mando episode. It’s the prequels that made it a flat white wash.
They rushed the editing to the scene. You can tell in the scene where Luke is in the hallway viewed from afar. At some parts they (the editors) didn't even add the glow to the blade. It also looked like they forgot to edit some of the length at times. The original looks like an actor holding a glow stick whereas Porg's actually resembles a lightsaber.
That bothered me too. This looks MUCH better!
I am fucking dying right now at the Pedro Pascal laughing/crying meme. That is the best thing you could’ve put there and i will think about it for the rest of my life
Personally I liked the newer lightsaber swing look. It was something different and the extra green was a bit satisfying ngl.
lg wussup fancy seeing you here. do you mean you like the edited one or the original.
@@TenToAceStudios the original one. While it’s technically not entirely accurate to the saver swings we’ve seen before I found it different and oddly satisfying
@@LegoGamer5502 yeah the way they did it in mando is actually more realistic to a glowing object in motion. They get dimmer. I thought it was a cool detail
i love that they forgot to change the mini lightsabre part
Much better!
Thank you, this is so much better, i thought no one had done it !
This lightsaber tried to murder my swoloness
My friend, once I read your description the difference between the two became so much clearer!
I'd consider changing the name of this video to Luke's Entrance | Consistent Saber Core Edit / or something, it would clear up confusion :)
Yeah, probably. Consistent opacity for sure. I know it’s confusing and unclear but I don’t mind even if no one notice the difference. It's great to see honest opinions from people.
@@DarthPorg Would you ever consider making the Prequel Saber cores slightly more flickery or particle-y.
When Anakin confronts Palpatine on being the Sith Lord, his saber looks too clean imo, it doesn't feel like he's exposes to a light and is the thickest I've seen them yet.
Oh, that seems like a lot of work. Maybe one day. I don't know. I’d love to see prequel lightsabers with more “realistic” lighting effects though.
I thought that scene was okay, at least it’s consistent with the rest of the prequels.
That always bothered me. The Lightsaber swings could have looked way better. They should have made it resemble the prequel trilogy.
THANK YOU! I have been saying this for so long that the lightsabers in the Disney Plus shows have too much motion blur. No one else has seemed to notice.
I think a mix of the fan edit and original would be best. It’s more realistic to have the motion blur lower the exposure of the Saber and make it less bright and more coloured, but I think the original looks too dark green
OMG I thought I was the only who noticed something off with the new lightsaber blades. It's a brightness thing? I always thought it was the saber's trail that didn't look as angular or wide anymore.... or that it was the inner part (the white part, not necessarily the hue color) that was not as clear, or wide? Or is it all these multiple things that are happening?
great stuff
smooth
Thank you
So much better.
Nice
Noice
👍
I think they just used the on-set blade instead of doing it in post..
They used it as a base, but they definitely did enhance it with VFX. That’s how you get the lovely halo, pointed tip, and lens artifacts.
Are you releasing this for editors?
Not gonna cap I don't see a difference here XD
0:34 hahahaha
do another edit and amv Darth Porg please
Is there a difference
Yeah, but what's the point of swooshing a lightsaber and it not being on a 5 minute digitech digital delay from the X series ?!
Porg at 0:38
Hello there
General Pan Paw!
I actually prefer the original. It’s more realistic; the white core _should_ fade out to green mid-swing - the only reason the saber usually looks white is because the camera can’t properly expose it.
It isn’t just this episode of Mando with this kind of motion blur, it’s also A New Hope as well as all five Disney-era movies. Hell, when Grievous is doing his good spinning trick it does this too.
Yeah Lucasfilm has it so that the blade blurs into color especially the tip, it's more realistic that way.
whereas the PT has nonstop pure white.
Ehm... Im i an only one Who dont see the diference?
There’s not a huge difference. I’m sorry but I think the original was fine the way it was
I don’t see the difference
The lighsaber blur looks better/ more prequal like instead of looking that they just used a lightsaber FX toy.
Wtf is different? xd
