Great video as usual. I loved that stuff, always gets the fishies out, I converted over to algae clips and seaweed an gives the shy fish more of a chance as sheets alot bigger then them disks an goes alot quicker so i use 2-3 clips different spots across the tank 👍
Interesting subject! I've been using Masstick for a couple of months now, with great success. Mix as much of the powder as you need with ro water and then just stick it wherever you want. I put maybe 3 blobs of it at different heights on the glass each day and most of my fish took to it straight away. A couple took a little longer, so I add a few flakes to be on the safe side. There doesn't seem to be any waste flying round the tank, as it adheres to the glass (or rock if preferred) very well. My fish love it! Ideal for hard to feed fish such as my cleaner wrasse - it was recommended to me by Dutch Reefer particularly for this fish, as it doesn't seem to get the hang of cleaning other tank mates lol. I make mine up daily, but you can mix a whole bag and freeze it for up to 5 weeks.
Great info, thank you! Every single time I used it, the disc broke and ended up somewhere in the tank. The first couple of times, it was fish that did it, but lately it’s been snails. I think the other thing is that not all fish are grazers, some hunt their food in the water column so it only works for them when pieces break off and float around. I won’t waste it, that’s for sure.
Awesome video as always. Another company had that same concept with the marine grazer. Seems as if they changed their name as the product wasn’t available anymore. I would grind it all up and mix it with your other fish food. I have to say when I used it it didn’t last long. Then again I had a bunch of tangs at the time.
It may be targeted at fish with more aggressive teeth, I am thinking Cole tang maybe... Grind it, for sure, the nutrient value is still there even if the delivery method has not worked for you
I love using these but like you I find you get a lot of waste with them ... I crush the remainder up and mix it with tank water and use it to feed my goniopora 😃
My fish aren't really interested in it either but my LFS feeds them in the display tank and the fish gobble it all up quickly. I feed the Vitalis pellets and my fish go mad for them then beg for more so it seems strange that they ignore the grazer. Maybe they need to become accustomed to it although my fish clear an algae clip of seaweed very quickly so the concept of food stuck to the glass isn't new to them.
I have the Vitalis Platinum pellets and the fish really seem to like those, even the flame hawkfish. I think I just don’t have enough grazing fish, and I have to remove the disc before it falls apart so I end up wasting a lot. 🤔
Not sure if you are aware but the "platinum" pellets are supposed to be fed for 2 weeks then the standard pellets for 4. The platinum are enriched or have some kind of probiotic.
Yes - I only feed the platinum a couple days per week, about 1/4 tsp mixed with their 0.5mm coral pellets and NLS small marine pellets, 1/4 tsp of each. It’s really just for me, when they come to the front and beg. 😁 I keep track in my log book so I don’t give in too often. They really do love them - even the flame hawk goes after them. 🐟
How to get the fishes to eat? I have tried putting it in a tank with a purple Tang, a yellow Tang, a Kole Tang, 2 foxface and a Naoko fairy wrasse and none seems to be grazing on it. 😭
🤷♀️ My fish didn’t go crazy over it, so most of each disk I tried was wasted because I had to get it out of the tank before it disintegrated into something that would only pollute my tank. So the concept is good, but I guess it wasn’t tasty enough for the fish. And it’s expensive.
Do you want the rest of mine? I’ll mail it to you if you want it - I don’t want anything for it. If you do want it, just send me your email address (you can use RUclips messaging to keep it private if you want) and I can get your coordinates. It’s a small container and weighs less than 200 grams, so I don’t mind covering shipping. Seriously, I’d rather it go to a good home. 😁
I think this is an interesting concept but it almost seems like an army of fish or really large fish are needed to consume that size disk. I wonder if it falls off and breaks down how much is it going to spike the nutrients. I wonder if you have leftovers could freezing it work to preserve it better than letting it dry out for reuse.
I’m not sure - I assume it absorbs tank water, which has organics in it, so when it came time to thaw it, I wonder if it would need to be done in the fridge? I’m probably over-thinking..... But I’m not going to waste the rest of it, that’s for sure.
Nice product.. i feed my fishes 12-15 different types of food, and some tell me im mad to do that lol.. my cbb only eats australian freeze dried black worms, had to shift her in a seperate tank, as my fishes are aggressive feeders.
Just saw something called Masstick by a company called easy reefs. (Sold on bulkreefsupply.com). It looks cool because you mix up only as much as you need, and stick the goop directly onto your glass or rocks (for more natural feeding or for timid fish). There are videos on RUclips about this and diy versions... haven't tried it myself but looks interesting and solves some of the problems you face with the one you are using at the moment.
I bought this to try it based on experience of others, but it just didn’t work the way I thought it should. But I sure won’t waste what’s left. That masstick stuff is really popular but looks kind of messy - I’m not sure I’d stick with it if I had to mix it up with my hands all the time. LRS, that’s what I have. 😁
Reefgrrl makes sense. I recently don't even have the energy to defrost frozen stuff. So have started using a bit of reef nutrition myis feast : ) just pour into the tank..

....and you have nine feet to cover....!
Great video.
I stopped using them as they seemed to break up and create too much waste in the tank.

lol, yeah I think I just don’t have enough of the right kinds of fish to make it worthwhile.
Great video with great info
Good review, maybe you can brake disk and small piece stick it on glass.
Nice update. I use Marine Grazer but it only lasts a few minuets :)
I was going to say the snails will love it but you covered it. Still nice to have, use them all up. Sea weed and the flakes 👍

I love this food, I've been using it for a year now , it's hard to get in the states

I can relate to the “varied diet” - you wouldn’t believe the different types of frozen and dry foods I have, it’s ridiculous. 😳
Reefgrrl lol
Put it on ebay with used food and someone who wants it can give you a fair purchase price for it ?
I think tank with tangs will have them emptied in no time
Great idea. Shame it doesn’t live up to the hype

👍❤
My fish only eat these when I just throw them in they don't like it on the glass
Break it feed it to Shrimp and snails.
I would grind the rest. 👍🏽
Yeah you throw away more than half the money
