this is preaching: this is exhortation. this is what someone with conviction does, speaking extemporaneously. It is NOT uncommon to be be capable of speaking without notes -- especially when one has been deliberating on this material for years and decades as he has. I am sorry that few seem to have experienced a sermon of more than a salutatory fifteen minutes and three points of development. This is a speech for our times, and not a moment too soon.

honor his struggle to reason his way to faith, his, in my opinion, long hard fought struggle to forge himself academically speaking- into someone who can bear the honesty of what his mind is capable of discerning from creation. dont shrink from life and turn away from a dedicated application of what you've learned, what you can be, and what god has given you. as a 40+year old man i can tell you i didnt hear untruth in his speech, i didnt hear arrogance. that last step into christs arms might only come after a bitter fought struggle over conscience and your heart, but i offer testimony that from my experience it IS so, so worth it. dont sell yourself out by looking away.
god bless you in your future, and your search for truth and excellence. you are constantly on god's mind as well, and his other children are praying for you too :)

My University held its commencement ceremony for the class of 2022 earlier today. After listening to endless rants from my school's administrators comprised of nothing but the severity of the climate crisis, the pervasiveness of systemic racism, and their insistence that we, "challenge the system," JP's speech is an absolute breath of fresh air. His encouragement and laser-focus on looking inward and examining all the flaws in oneself, particularly when we are facing uncertainty and change, are so much more meaningful and profound.

It’s so fundamentally the truth. I doubt few who know his perspectives or his theological erosion of dogmatic understandings of both science and religions into a clear understanding of the human condition. He is a sociologist in the best sense of that title. Guru in some cultures, a Jesuit of natural “formation”, who walks the path of Saint Ignatius. It’s a feeling place that often makes it very grown man cry. I understand as well. The dark empath willing to stand in front of danger before another person. A first responder before anybody makes a call. And on a good day, he is a teacher out of obligation for what he knows.

It's the only thing that keeps me mildly tethered to religion. I know he made light of "oh you're 16 you think you know more than the Bible" but he didn't really address that far too many churches are preaching that these events LITERALLY happened, which is stupid and turns people away (like myself), or they use their "divine power" for political/financial gain.
In contrast, I love the way Jordan breaks down the stories, not as a real list of events, but as archetypal events that represent our journey as humans. Which gives the stories meaning to me, not from a religious perspective, but as someone who finds meaning in powerful stories.

@Down with Corporate Amerika First, when Jesus condemned the rich he was speaking about those who got their riches by leaching off the poor and unjust means. The point was not that being rich forbids you from entering heaven, but the sinful means of obtaining the riches do. Second, capitalism - like all human institutions - is a flawed system. But to suggest that acceptance of Jesus’ teaching and supporting capitalism are mutually exclusive is foolish. As far as I can tell, capitalism is not entirely opposed to Jesus’ teaching unlike some other systems i.e. communism

The most powerful thing about Jordan is how he delivers truth with emotional trembling in his voice. It shows the depth of his contemplation and compassion. If delivered in a detached manner, much of what he says would not reach out and grab the attention of our souls. The man becomes a palpable embodiment of hope as he audibly and visibly displays compassion and humility with knowledge rather than ego and pride. It causes me to trust him much more than I would most people on the planet.

The Lord has placed a Spirit of Wisdom within you, Dr. Peterson. Thank you for delivering those insights to this graduating class and to the world. May He who gives seed to the sower and bread for our nourishment continue to provision the world with these insights. Thank you to Hillsdale for calling Dr. Peterson to speak and thank you to Dr. Peterson for being faithful to deliver the address. I pray that the Wisdom Dr. Peterson has been given is mixed with faith and that he trusts in the Lord Jesus.

I pray you, my people-am Kenyan we would NOT copy all what we see on the internet unless it’s this type of Mindset that elevates and invoke our moral responsibilities, character and courage-all that used to be the American Way but seem to have disappeared in our current generations. In essence he is doing a better job of Inspiring us to greatness than the so called men of god. Barikiwa and share with others especially those that look to politicians others for help…. We all are unique and got to something to contribute to others through service!

I have an amazing father and he’s always been there to motivate and guide me in life. Supported my siblings and I the best he could and worked like a dog to keep us fed, clothed and reasonably happy. I have so much respect for my dad and I love him for being the man he is and his sacrifices for us his children. It’s a special feeling when you sit and think on a good father. Recently it dawned on me that Dr. Peterson holds a similar place in my heart. I’ve never met the man although I feel I’ve known him or rather he’s known me for ages! I have so much love and respect for this man that when I think of his great deeds and or the stern ass chewings’ he unleashes on us from time to time i eel grateful to have experienced his wisdom, a fathers wisdom!

LISTEN carefully to his reason for not making the claim that he is a believer --- you have misunderstood what he means by his statement. He feels, in keeping with his vow to speak without lying, he may not be worthy of professing belief in the Supreme Being, who is omnipotent and omniscient and is the absolute of good.
So few humans live as this Being, our Creator, asks. We all know we do not precisely follow even the simplest of His Commands.
Dr. Peterson honors God by continuing to work at seeking, at understanding, and to work at living a life that truly honors God before he speaks the words of belief. His LIFE is what must honor the Almighty of our universe and show that he is honest and dedicated in his believing. That's harder to accomplish than just saying, "Sure, I am a believer." That could be shallow; that could be flippant and mean nothing.
If Dr. Peterson makes said statement, it will be honest and utterly profound because it will be verified by the daily actions of his amazing life.
I count Jordan Peterson among my blessings. His wisdom benefits we who hear. He is a Godsend.

It's an effort that has kept me focused for the duration of more than an agonizing year, the journey out of paralyzing PTSD. I have been stymied over and over again, but have persevered in the EFFORT. Only within the past two weeks have I been able to actually take a step. I took another yesterday. I'll take another, feeble as it may seem, today. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? I WILL run the race again!

I was there. My son, now HIlldale graduate and Iraq combat vet, said it was the most meaningful address he had ever heard. His motto during his infantry career was: "Embrace the chaos; it will set you free." But that motto did him no good in his post-military life. He discovered Epictetus' stoic philosophy and Hillsdale College at about the same time. This address is the truth. Pure and simple. Jordan Peterson has been through fire and is still standing. I think he knows something about life.

What Dr. Peterson is describing is the calling he has been following and living out in his own life. I am certain his emotion comes from a deep seated desire for every young person in the audience to impact the world beyond anything they ever imagined but he is a living breathing example of what he himself teaches. His notoriety and global impact may come with some decent income etc., but nothing compared to the real impacts to his physical and mental health, his family and his career/path in life. He knows that the the challenges the world faces that are the most worth chasing require immense dedication and personal sacrifice and wants people to aware of that and at the same time motivated to proceed. His honesty is not just in his words, but in his personal embodiment of what he teaches in his own life. He is the living breathing walking teaching catcher in the rye sounding the alarm for our generation to avoid the cliff of ignorance, bad ideas and lack of life transforming love (love equaling sacrifice) for the world we live in. It's not a regular commencement speech with notes and catch phrases because he is sharing what he has distilled from life so that we can do the same. Aim up, keep hope, be honest, persevere in faith, no excuses, expect the unexpected, deny yourself, ask what you bring to the world, embrace your calling/what is meaningful and know that seeking it will carry you through adversity, don't shy away from problems, be a fixer, seek the truth its gonna be hard, but really really worth it.
