“It does not matter how gifted you are. If you are difficult to get on with, your gifts are of no value” Martyn Lloyd-Jones. We are thinking of hanging this quote in our art gallery.

My dear late partner was the absolute most charming man, in the way you describe for those same reasons. He made everyone feel good when interacting with them. I learned so much from him that I bring forward in his memory.

I am very happy to have come across this channel today! I am glad I stayed for the whole video because what you said really made a lot of sense to me.
Living in a very small community makes it much easier to notice these habits in people and you can really see how folks gravitate towards people with real charm. I've seen it go the other way too, where someone is excluded for being fake or manipulative.
I will be more mindful of charm in the future, and will try and make a more positive impact on those around me.
Great video, can't wait to see more!

Thank you for a wonderful talk. I was born in 1953, and at the risk of sounding like an "old fogey," manners mattered then. Please don't get me wrong, I was in my teens during the "British Invasion" of the 1960's music world, and so I grew up on a good steady diet of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, just to name a few. Prior to them, of course, there were the "girl groups" of the early 60's. So, tea time in the parlor was not on my agenda. I had no time for that, I was way too busy trying to match my mini shirts with the right blouses, tights and go-go boots, among other things! However, over the past decade or so, it seems that manners have gone out the window. Too many people behave as if being a well-mannered person is something corny, or goody-goody, and that being rude is somehow cool. It is foolish and disrespectful to behave in that manner. And I'm talking about people in their late 20's and their 30's, not teenagers. So again, thanks. It was so good to hear civility being discussed. Keep up the good work.

Loved the content. Really made me think, specially about the difference of manipulating and negotiating with people. Please, if possible, use a real background. The digital one is gorgeous, but it is very distracting of the high value content due to the effects around you. Thank you for the video.

Thank you for your feedback about the background. I agree that it's not ideal. Alas, for a little bit longer, I'll need to use the virtual background but I promise that as soon as I am able, I will stop using it.
Question: Do you think using a "blur" background would be a better option until I'm able to stop using one?

@@themodernretrowoman I think the virtual background is better than the blur. :) Just an idea - once I had to do a video in the pantry and to conceal the food I used a piece of fabric with a nice print. Very low tech. I couldn't use the virtual background due to technical issues. Do what is most comfortable for you, don't mind me.

Oh, there will be fabric hanging up in the future to conceal stuff! *laugh*
Right now, we're waiting for the new owner of my FIL's 1918 limousine that he was restoring to come get the chassis so that I can set up my studio in the garage (and because of "circumstances," I can't record in The Farmhouse). He was supposed to pick it up two months ago. We had been warned that collectors of these antique cars have their own timeline for things but we're anxious to get it moved so that we can have the estate sale and put The Mister's childhood home up for sale. That was probably TMI but I wanted to let you know that we're on the same wavelength about this. Truth be told, I miss my cute little office in our old house that was perfect for video recording but all the recording I was doing back then was for my work at the university! --Dr.J.

Update: I don't need to use the digital background anymore! Yay!!! It's not fancy since we're hoping to move by the end of the year but it's real (we're temporarily living in The Mister's childhood home while he cleans it out and prepares it for sale).
