    Fact about Stinging Nettles: if you touch one and it starts to sting: find a fern, break off a leaf at its stem. Rub the white juice from the steam where it stings, it should cause the stinging to go away. We learned this on a school camping trip back in 02.

    • @DanlowMusic
      @DanlowMusic 4 месяца назад +4

      I've heard the back of the fern leaf works. We have a lot of ferns and nettles on our property. I actually have a lady coming from an hour away to come get some Nettle from us.

    • @GoingGreenMom
      @GoingGreenMom 4 месяца назад +5

      Nettle actually works on itself too.... if you can get it without getting stung again, chew a leaf up a bit, then put it on the sting.

    I'm in Maine, and I do daikon to close the beds starting around late August/September. I like what they do to the soil, and I can harvest what I want up to the first really hard frosts. Daikon is great. Like a natural tiller, and that tap root must really mine deep down and bring good stuff up to the surface.

      @trayvixk4642 4 месяца назад

      Do you happen to have clay or compacted soil? I heard it's a great crop to start out with for that kind of soil. Plus pickled daikon is delicious.

      I have pretty good soil. Daikon is great for all soils, but you are right, especially compacted soils. Pickled daikon and carrot is the key to one of life's best sandwiches, the Vietnamese bahn mi.@@trayvixk4642

    Im really pushing for a 3 season garden this year. I'm in Western WA East of Tacoma in the foothills. I upped my orchard by planting a David The Good style Grocery Row Garden. So far with pear, 3 plum trees and blueberries, rhubarb, gooseberries, fig in between the trees with, onions and potatoes filling some of the other area in that 4 foot wide bed. Will be getting more out soon. So excited for my monster expansion this year.

    I've found each chit is a plant. 2 chits = 2 plants, 3=3 and so on. When planting without chitting, there's no way of knowing
    how many plants will pop up, or if the potato is even viable. If in ground planting it's not as critical as there is room for the
    root system to not crowd each other out as much as it is in buckets, where they are confined. Generally more plants equals
    more potatoes, but smaller in size either way. Just an observation from over the years of growing them both ways.
    Would love to see a reveal video when you harvest these. 👍👍👍
    TYFS Kevin

    Sweet potatoes are growing pretty well. They got a lot of sweet potato bugs but otherwise healthy. They are probably here because I also have water spinach which they also feed on.
    meanwhile, I keep having rot problem with potatos. I find it very hard to determine the appropriate amount of watering that would not give them rot, especially when rain's involve.

    Always enjoy the content, Kevin. Suggest sharing with your audience the difference between determinant and indeterminate potatoes. All the potatoes planted in the video I’m assuming we’re determinate potatoes based on how they were planted. We find many nurseries don’t label potatoes their determinate potatoes for backyard gardening. Gardeners growing in containers may find indeterminate varieties more amenable so they can fill as they grow, but they would have to plant differently if they were determinate.

    Hello from Central FL zone 10a! This cool season, I was able to try my first real attempt with potatoes, I went with 3 large grow bags for 3 types of potatoes (Yukon gold for obvious reasons, Russets, and Reds). We had about the wettest "dry" season I've heard of for a long time around here, so they didn't do as well as I would've liked, but I ended up getting a respectable harvest from them! I'd say I got around 3-5 variable sized potatoes for every seed potato planted. It's sort of ridiculous how much better they taste when this fresh, and it's sort of hard to describe.. because it is distinctly potato, but.. better.. more tender.
    I may not be a Potato Daddy quite yet... but maybe a Potato cousin? or Potato fun uncle? lmao. Happy harvests
