The USDA says that you don’t need to discard green potatoes, but you should prepare them properly: “Peel the skins, shoots, and any green color; that is where the solanines concentrate.” Be a little aggressive if the flesh is still green beneath the peel and remove all traces of it.
I prefer to just save them for seed potatoes. I live in California so I can grow potatoes year round. Anything that's green just goes right back in the soil. And if you live in a place where the winters are too cold or the summer's too hot, you could just store them in a root cellar or in a paper bag in your garage. Until it's planting season.
To expedite the caramelization process of onions, start by adding a splash of water to a pan heated over medium heat. Allow the onions to soften gently while covered. Next, remove the lid and continue cooking until they reach a rich caramel color. #QuickCaramelOnions
guys, i love this cooking and hanging out segment. it's like... wholesome but fun, and educational, and.... inspires cooking stuff in the garden itself which is cool.
You two are quickly becoming my favorite bromance… you’re both so entertaining to watch and just seem like genuinely kind people… plus I love gardening and am always learning from you two. I think I learned everything I know about gardening from San Diego Seed Company and Epic Gardening!
You two are the real “dynamic duo!” Love your videos. Always make me smile. Stay amazing! I know this may sound silly but I’m going to suggest it anyway…can you guys do some sales around the 3rd of the month just every blue moon maybe? I have my pension but also SS. I refuse to spend anything till that SS check hits though because let’s be honest, who knows what can happen in this world today! So basically I pay my bills then spend on “extras” or “fun stuff.” So I’m never dipping into my pension for the most part. Shoot I’m old and on a tight budget! It’s tough out here. Lol Just a suggestion. I have two Birdies I got from you guys btw and I LOVE them! TY for all you do. Love, hugs and blessings to all ~Lisa
Dear Kevin & Epic Homesteading, hope all is well! This looks amazing, thanks for sharing! You're now dabbling in an area of gardening that a lot of people never get to experience - harvesting and preparing produce that you can't (or rarely) get at the store. What's in the produce isle consist mostly of what is the most profitable, in its most profitable state. I enjoy gardening for many reasons, but what really got me into it is because there was simply no other way to get my hands on this stuff unless I grow it myself. Certainly not of the same quality. It started with hot and superhot chillies as well as tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs. It just happens that currently I am picking rocks out of about 200 m^2 (about 2100 sq ft) to plant this year.. :D Deffo looking forward to more garden-to-grill :) Best wishes Edit: typo
Y'all, be careful about cross-contamination. Jacques used the same to cut and eat an artichoke that Kevin used to open a package of raw meat. This experience looks like so much fun. Very fun video :)
It's my birthday on the 31st. The grand old 64. couple of wagyu's on the grill, a pile of artichokes Jacque's way...and a hearty thank you for what you give to all of us! Skoal!
I love this as it gives me ideas for how to use what I’m growing. Also loved how Jacque held up the eating number of fingers when talking about the sale. 😂 Too fun!
As a long-time hunter and life-long gardener there's nothing more satisfying than cooking a meal for your family that you both hunted and grew. You can really make one-of-a-kind dishes with unique produce and otherwise unobtainable game-meat. If you click like on this comment I will bless you with 50% more chance of filling your tags ;). Keep up the amazing content!
I love you guys as well and just ordered my four 8-1 tall Birdie Beds! I already have five and live on a steep hill. I was trying to figure out where to put them if I ordered them. Finally after planting out some veggies in crappy old wooden raised beds, I said, " Aha!!!! That's where I can put them!!!" I talked to my husband and he was like, " I'm just the labor you decide if you want them." Yes!!! I'm so excited!!! You guys have helped me up my gardening game and seed starting as well. I share seedlings and veggies with my neighbors and family! Thank you!!!
I feel like I did the same as you with this fantastic sale! I just couldn't resist!! AND - I live on a hill too. So there's that. Also- I wasn't PLANNING on having so many Birdies Beds!! Happily, NOW I DOOO!!! Truth be told, I could always use more beds to plant up that hill... I haven't installed them yet bcuz I spend my evenings daydreaming about how I can change up the configuration of the beds. I've been coming up with some pretty outside the box designs! And then I wonder if they'll still actually work! Like- Since I'm on a hill... What if I split them in half, longways, and if I add extra bracing, will half a Birdies Bed still hold in the soil - on a hill? (my imagination imagination says YES!) REAL LIFE? I dunno... But if it works- That way I would have TWICE AS MANY BEDS!!! And I wouldn't have to dig out part of the hill either. Which would be a HUGE bonus! Dreamin... Just dreaming with my new Birdies Beds... !!! CRAZY GOOD SALE!!! ❤ THANKS GUYS!!!!! ❤
Yes! The Hermit Hat is back! We recognize Jacques again! I always love a Jacques raiding Kev’s garden cold open! The grilling spot is fire; I’m totally trying a choke-burger, but what kind of cheese did you use? Anyone else noticed they left the UPC tags on both of the steam lids? 😊 The blooper reel was awesome! Keep those up!
How's about a nightime cookup around the open fire. I bet some potatoe rubbed with butter and powdered garlic & onion then wrapped in foil would be a treat as would corn cob's cooked over flame smoothered in butter' salt & pepper...and don't forget berries to go with the toasted marshmallow's...Yum!!!!...ohhhh and yes please keep stealing from Kevin's garden Jacques...lololololololol
Love the cooking videos and recipes! Kevin you'll appreciate knowing where your meat comes from with hunting. for almost a decade 70-80% of our meat is game I harvested, processed and handled every step of the way. Enjoy the journey!
I'm a new follower for all 3 channels. I just wanted to ask if you have ever considered becoming a beekeeper or allowing a beekeeper to put a hive on your property? It's so much cooler to do the work yourself. The honey bees n garden work together in conjunction to adhere to the best garden season/harvest. As well then you'd have your own liquid gold to utilize for healing. The title of this reminded me of hive to bottle, so I felt inclined to see if that's anything either of you have considered. Thank you for all you do I'm learning a lot 🎉
Great video! I have already ordered my seeds from Botanical Interests and I believe they're in transit! Very good quality and variety! Greetings from Michigan! 😊
I wish my job was as much fun as you guys have! I’m growing artichokes this year and I’m hoping to prepare them just like that. They look delicious 😋. Looking forward to see what’s in store for that special onion.
Great show guys! Love it when you crack each other up. Guys couldn’t afford the special sale but sure appreciate the texted discount! Can’t wait for the arrival. Collecting potting soil as we speak!🎉
you can caramelize onions significantly faster by adding a small amount of baking soda. It speeds up the process a LOT. mix a tiny bit of baking soda with a tiny bit of water, and pour it over after your onions have turned translucent.
Kevin if you can purchase beef straight from the farmer you'll never go back. We purchase a half a cow every year I've become so spoiled that I'll go without rather than purchase from a store much like garden grown is way better so is the difference in a pasture raised 👍.
You guys should get an "Epic Chef"! I mean obviously, your culinary skill are also Epic, but I'd be curious to see maybe some kind of collab with other chefs or creators. Love your videos!
I love this, but Just cuz you talked hot dogs, there’s nothing better than guacamole. We call them “Guac Dogs” and I’ll never eat any hot dog with ketchup and mustard. 😂 Gotta try these burgers and the artichoke though. Thanks guys!
I love both of you guys! Your cooking skills though... a bit painful. Equipment with bar code stickers still attached was the first red flag. Stick to the garden and leave the cooking to the chefs. ❤
"I can't guarantee that's in the food so it's healthy"😂😂😂 Yeah I mean, that's what I'm telling myself with takeout fried chicken... I haven't seen them frying it in oil so I can't guarantee they did....
Just found your channel today. You two make a good comedy show, love the humor. Would be awesome to see you doing a little campfire cooking in your backyard. And thanks to the neighbors for providing a tropical back ground with their strelitzias and palm trees 😅
Ok but like just put the potatoes in a dark place? Like what??? Green potatoes taste disgusting and are toxic… why grow them if your not gonna store them 😂😂😂 that’s the whole point
Please don't go hunting, please stop consuming animal products, please stop advertising fish like they're seeds. You and Jacques are clearly very compassionate chaps, why doesn't this compassion extend to the animals that help our ecosystems thrive?

Those videos are such a treat! Educational and fun😊 Also, the fact you have an outside sink to prep food is awesome! Didnt know I wanted one but could probably use it like 3 months a year most due living in a much colder place.
Dude, try making loquat marmalade, my grandma has a loquat tree in her backyard and at the end of the summer we wet a jar of that delicuousness. (equal parts sugar to destoned fruit weight and a little bit of pectin). Hope it helps!
I walked outside yesterday and got myself some onions, lettuce, and a few potatoes. Made myself some garlic onion potatoes, and a some sautéed onions for my bacon cheeseburger.
I really enjoy these videos. Would like to see you guys make a taco meal with all the stuff you grow: corn tortillas, salsas and perhaps mushroom or sweet potato protein? Looks like you already grow everything you need.
Honestly the fact that our editor made me Level 999 and Jacques Level 1/2 is even too disrespectful for me 😂
He's in easy mode you are in intermediate or hard so it balances out.
I laughed so hard at this
I’ve been trying to figure out your part of town. Seeing you front yard I’m now guessing CV
@@Jeff-ut8sb that's creepy. Keep it to yourself if so.

Love the Pokémon themed editing in this video. That Epic Gardening sale is definitely not a Farfetch'd idea. It is super effective savings.
Your editor deserves a raise. The Pokemon GameBoy effects had me cracking up😂
I just love you guys, you’re the dynamic duo! It’s so fun to watch two friends laughing and having fun together! Keep it up guys!

Maybe Jaques needs a bonus this year so be can get a bigger knife.
Man this was so funny! Can we get a short of Jacque putting his veggie on the grill, ‘ Hello mutha…. 😂😂😂😂’
I have never eaten an artichoke that hasn't been in a can. I'm going to have to try one after this.
Y’all are awesome, I can’t even explain how much I loved this video!! That burger looked soooo good 😁 🤤
It looks like you've been mates all your life. Its only been 4 years hasn't it? Xxx❤❤❤❤
