We've heard Steve play far more often than we were aware, but the guy also has also been just a great personality and someone we wish we'd all hung out with. Thanks for making the world a better place, man.
Never, ever forget to mention the mighty Michael Schenker...I'm also a VH die hard fan but you can add guys like Steve Stevens,George Lynch who's a beast and few other,no?
I discovered Steve Lukather via the Toto Hydra album. I am a drummer "slash" trying to be a guitar player and lover. When i heard the Hydra album i was hooked on that guitar player ! The drummer wasn't bad either,,lol
Steve is so humble considering all he's done. Not only with Toto and Thriller, but he played on other well known songs, like the guitar solo on Olivia Newton John's Physical. Capped off his incredible career by touring with Ringo's All Star Band for the last 15 years. And he's not cocky at all about any of it.
Saw G3 here in Adelaide a number of years ago. Had a meet and greet session with Steve L, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. Steve L was the only one who took the time to go out of his way to be friendly and talk about things. A genuine nice guy. Much respect.
Great interview John. Really cool to see Luke so open and forthright. I’ve heard him mention some of these things before. I think he’s always worried about Toto not being respected as a rock band and himself as a rock guitarist as he mentions, but real fans know. Funny about thinking Van Halen was the guys name. I remember thinking the same.
I love how Steve said he’s got memories of Eddie that he could never share that’s a true friend so many people would be running to sign a book deal after a famous friend passed away it’s awesome that he’s not doing that.
Steve uh i hate to admit it cause i'm old too but your old and telling stories around the fire. :) I'm glad to be able to hear your stories. I turn 52 this year, but we always young at heart. Love to hear more of you guys this coming year!!!!
I don't think there is a greatest guitarist in the world there are so many styles and people who are amazing players. However, in my eyes a real musician is someone who can play, write, create and is real, down to earth, can talk to anyone and not look down on them. Steve is the real deal I could totally have a beer and play guitar with him. Even though he'd run circles around me haha but hey I'd stay in key and still rock it!
This is an interview about Steve being humble, and a good friend of EVH. But the real point is, is that they’re like “ Gold medal Olympic athlete electric guitarists “. Those solos by Eddie. And by Steve. Especially Rosanna, and While my guitar gently weeps. ......I keep going to the woodshed, and it’s so hard to play anything recognizable sounding by either one of them. If everyone could do it, then it wouldn’t mean anything any more.
Honestly, back in the 80s Eddie really blew me away but, I always thought there were 2 guitar players as good as Eddie, one of them was Steve Lukather and the other one Steve Stevens
Steve, you forgot the part about your neighbor’s gardeners ruining the peace of your mornings and having to share a little rock and roll love with them to help them understand how rude they were. I’d wake up at 4 in the morning to witness that anytime.🤣😂
Not really. Luke is secure about his place, talents and skills and probably enjoys talking about a good friend who passed away. It's called mutual respect.
Eddie was NOT a "metal" guitar player AT ALL!! He did love Toto and soulful music so much that some of the best VH songs are AOR songs keyboard driven played by himself!!!
We've heard Steve play far more often than we were aware, but the guy also has also been just a great personality and someone we wish we'd all hung out with. Thanks for making the world a better place, man.
I just found out he's the one ripping at the end of "Running With The Night" DAAAAAAMN...that's explains it.
Luke seems like such a cool dude. Genuinely amazing soul.
Steve and Ed are both great .....I'm thankful for the both of them 🌹🌹
Love Steve he is a great musician.
So many great guitar/musical moments involving Steve down through the decades.
Amazing Guitarrist, amazing musician and human
Steve and Eddie two of my favorite guitarist of all time..
Never, ever forget to mention the mighty Michael Schenker...I'm also a VH die hard fan but you can add guys like Steve Stevens,George Lynch who's a beast and few other,no?
With all the success, Steve is still down to earth and got his feet well planted on the ground. Great video dude, keep it up.

Great album, love Steve, and that drummer is definitely pretty good lol!
Always great to hear Luke talk. Thanks for this. Keep em coming!
Luke goin’ OLD SCHOOL with a real phone! love it!👍🏻👍🏻🤣🤣

Everyone loves Luke.
He is always approachable even though he is a very big name musician
This is the interview I hope never ends!!

Great interview. Thanks, John n Steve!
Imagine being a fly on the wall when Steve and Eddie hung out
I love how Steve said he’s got memories of Eddie that he could never share that’s a true friend so many people would be running to sign a book deal after a famous friend passed away it’s awesome that he’s not doing that.

You’re only old once you feel old.
Great video! Thank you for making this conversation
The best part abt Steve is his humility and his friendship with Eddie is just obvious no pretensions.
What a great player and human being. It would be a huge honor to meet him someday.
As always, fabulous work! Good on ya!
I was at the California World Music Festival. Toto played on all days. Van Halen played Sunday. It was off the wall crazy good fun.
I love Steve ! RiP EDDie
Everyone respects Luke cause he had an amazing feel, tough, big textured too. You can't hide that.
Great video!
Brother you are the best
Great interview! Steve being so engaging and open 👍
Great interview
Luke was pretty close to Ed. About as close as anyone not named Alex could get to him. I’ll always miss EVH terribly.
When Eddie Van Halen says you're good, well hell that's it you're good.
Love Luke 👏
Love his audiobook.

There ya go. We have a source - John Beaudin’s friend! Thanks John! 🙂
Luke is the coolest cat!

i love to hear the storys
Luke met Ed at the California Music Festival in 1979, not 1978. He was off by a year...but great interview nonetheless!
Imagine Luke and Eddie checking out an Allan Holdsworth’s gig …..
LUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Must drive Steve crazy to be constantly asked about Eddie
Not really. Luke is secure about his place, talents and skills and probably enjoys talking about a good friend who passed away. It's called mutual respect.
Lukather seems like a cool dude…
Who has thrown Luke under the bus? You talking about the Toto name thing and Jeff's widow?
It’s weird looking at the thumbnail and I don’t mean to be a Debbie downer but they both have that high looking Perma- grin goin
What’s going on here what’s next- video call with a rotary phone? lol
Eddie was NOT a "metal" guitar player AT ALL!! He did love Toto and soulful music so much that some of the best VH songs are AOR songs keyboard driven played by himself!!!
Why is he on the phone
That hair tho
why does he use a phone?
For some reason they couldn't hear each other on Skype, so they kept the webcam but used the phone to talk.
