This is more biased take but I feel like they want to keep Marcelo with teel, yorke, and Anthony as long as possible. They are the future and Marcelo is like the Captain America of the avengers in this instance.
It's a long season so I don't think we need to rush him to AAA, but of all the top 3 prospects we have since Story is hurt I think he's the guy I'd most like to see be on the big league team for the final month of the season. I think how he is moved throughout the season could look a lot like what Rafaela's season looked like last year.
Meyer is a really an important piece, as you mentioned. I just don’t know what he’d gain from a promotion in a two month or so time frame. Remember Ceddanne was elite in one aspect of the game before his call up and could play multiple positions, I just don’t know Marcelo has something like that to offer just yet.
Obviously I think the benefits are 1. Confidence. Show that you believe in what he’s been doing 2. Starting to see major league pitching A BIT. I’m not saying that they are better than AA pitching but there are a lot more opportunities for him to face big league guys
With Story is under contract until 2027 could that be a factor in the development of Marcello? I mean you would not want to rush Mayer given his path is blocked and Rafaela is an excellent defensive shortstop.

Hey Corbin. First of all let me say that I was thrilled when the Redsox managed to snag him in the draft with the 4th overall pick. Looking at the results of that draft I think I am justified in saying he should have gone number one. Although he has made a few more errors than normal this season I have also seen him make a good deal of very good plays as well. I like his range also. Players sometimes jump from double A to the majors so while I am not thinking it a really big deal I would not mind seeing him promoted to Triple A. I think lots of good development takes place at both levels. I have spent a lot of time analyzing his swing and hitting habits. Assuming his development continues as it is he is making me think that his has the opportunity to become a very elite hitter. He really does see the ball very well and that is one of the sweetest left handed swings I have seen in a long time. I would definitely not want to pitch to that guy in a crucial spot lol :). Although our results at the major league level are mediocre so far this year it terms of Mayer, Teel , Anthony and others the future looks pretty exciting. I think its a good time to be a sox fan. Don’t be surprised to see him go to AAA to replace Chase Meirdoth at SS and Chase goes to Boston. Chase has the highest OBP out of our Top 30 with at least 3 years in the minors. I checked the Top 100 MLB Prospects to see how many players would have a higher OBP higher than Chase for the same 3 year minimum,and there’s only 4. That’s crazy..

Corbin, you knock it out of the park every time. I think I would give him more time at Portland to see if his defense comes around. I find some of the younger players are weak in fundamentals and another 100 at bats won't hurt. I would also like to see Matthew Lugo get called up to Worcester at the same time.
devers has not done a whole lot this season. save the game winner on saturday, he has not been clutch, and for the last 4 seasons makes a lot of errant throws. i really don’t know what else they can do to improve him…you would think he would be a lot better than he is for a guy making 300million.
There are a few ways the Sox could go in 2025. One way is to trade Marcelo for a high impact player in return. This assumes Devers is not coming off third, and Story is healthy. Keep in mind that Zanatello and Cespedes are not far behind when Story’s contract ends. Another way is to find a way to move Yoshida and place Marcelo at DH and mix him into third and short when Devers and Story sit.
Maybe again I don’t see them trading any of the big 3. They have made it perfectly clear that’s their plan and after sticking to that for so long there’s no way they decide to trade them now

I dont think that the Sox need to rush him so make sure everything is where we want it. The offense is anemic and we need something. The strikeouts are killing us. I'm noticing that O'Neill has not been right since the collision with Devers. Way too many LOB. Lot's of decent pitching performances are being wasted.
You to look at his chase rate. If he's chasing pitches out of the zone he's not ready otherwise he's probably good to go. More ground balls and line drives are good, he's not popping out so he's not getting fooled.
Even if the Sox brass is very confident of Mayer's ability, they should keep him at Portland .. if he's a sure-thing, like Mookie was in 2014, then all he''ll need is a month or two of "finishing school" at AAA. And unless the Sox are in a postion to make the playoffs, there's no need to waste a 40-man roster spot on Mayer in 2024. Next year, if he looks great in spring training, start him in AAA and plan to have him in Boston by Memorial Day 2025.

The Orioles' Jackson Holliday MLB promotion definitely showed that there is a world of a difference in the level of play between "The Show" and the minor leagues ... Definitely no need to rush Marcelo Meyer to Fenway at the present time ... Assuming Meyer continues to consistently hit AA pitching well, AAA Worcester definitely is his next stop within these next few weeks ... Hopefully he can continue to impress and progress to earn the chance to be called up to Boston when the MLB roster is allowed to expand sometime after Labor Day ...
Worse that could happen is you totally stunt his growth and ruin the confidence of a top prospect to the point where he doesn’t ever reach his true potential
