+Pilot Those are not Pilatus PC-9s they are Shorts Tucano......... licensed built versions of the Embraer Tucano. I'll grant you they are very similar looking. The RAF uses Tucanos........nations such as Australia use the PC9.
I am going into my final year of uni and am going to apply to RAF to hopefully be a pilot after. Even if I don't make it, I use this as my motivation when times are hard. Thank you for uploading this.
I did! I graduated with a first and joined the University Air Squadron during my final year, which was a fantastic experience and allowed me to fly the Grob tutor. I tried for the RAF but unfortunately due to my eyesight I wasn't able to join as a pilot. Don't give up on your dreams, if this is what you want until you're told "you cannot do this job role" make sure you pursue it.
Join the Navy instead. Most people in the RAF don't get to be pilots. But everyone in the Navy gets to work on ships :D An RAF fighter pilot is basically special forces. Only the very best will even get a shot at it and there's stacks of people wanting to do it. If you get a chance go for it, but don't tunnel vision on it.
proxi I know this is an old thread, but do they take into consideration corrected lenses? My eyesight is -2 but it’s pretty much perfect with contact lenses :(
I know Florence will be suitably proud that her music was employed artistically by her adoring fans with wings and big propellers. Go RAF!....and Florence and the Machine too!!
This video is hands down the best I've seen in I don't know how long! Wonderful...simply wonderful! -just another fan all the way over in Wisconsin, USA
Gah! this makes me miss the T-6 so hard. Great flying vid man. You brits have a great aviation legacy. I'm digging those tucanos painted up like the Spit. And the ET with the Tornado.
Love this, starting my PPL soon. Currently in college studying Aeronautical Engineering, I don't know if I want to fly commercial, military or as a civilian. However what I do know is that I want to pursue my passion for aviation as a pilot. This is a great motivational video when times are touch and allows me to strive for my ambition more and more. Thank you for posting this:)
When I'm older I want be in the RAF. I'm only 13. At first flying the Tucano and then if I succeed, get my pilot wings. Then move on to training in a Hawk. I'm starting to take flying lessons already in small rotary planes but that's nothing compared to a jet flying at 450mph! It's a big dream but I got to think HIGH.
***** You obviously have an unrealistic understanding of aircraft speeds. Of the two aircraft specified, the Tucano cruises at about 250 mph and the Hawk at around 450 mph. 3 times that would be about 1350 mph or Mach 2!
Good luck to you, I wanted to do what you want, but I am joining the RAF in 2 weeks to do communication and infrastructure technician. Maybe one day I'll fly. Nevertheless good luck to you
I was lucky, working for the MoD we could apply to go up with the weather flight as a passenger. My last flight was low over the dales into the lakes and back for a touch and go at Topcliffe then back to L.O.U. I loved every minute. You realise how professional these guys are and all the pre flight checks seemed endless.
When I was a lad I won a cadet competition to fly in one of these beauties during a ATC camp in lynton on ouse. Absolutely the coolest thing I got to do and I greatly respect the pilots who fly in them. I understand I'm one of a tiny few of civvies who ever got to go in a military training one.. I'd like to say thank you . The finalists (myself inc) were asked why we would like to go in one. The two others gave upright answers but i said that i would "utterly just simply love to" and I got to go
Wow. Now that's faster than I thought XD. Thanks for the info. I mainly wanna be in the RAF cause my dad has a pilots licence and he said if he were to pick a job that he would like to do now (Don't worry, he has a job) it would be a commercial pilot. I know that lots of people in the RAF after they retire, go on to commercial pilots. Just one of my big dreams since a little kid really. Doing what us humans were not born to do... FLY!
hey wow! ZF294 was the aircraft I had my flight in on Friday May 16th 2008 over the lakes and the Yorkshire Dales. Many thanks to RAF Linton on Ouse and especially Flt Lt Chris Pouncey of the RAAF.
I Miss these ,After Working on them for 8 years at Linton,It was Hard Work Keeping them Flying ,One Time i had 50 Before Flights To Do Myself ! Was a Bit of a Parts Bin Special the Shorts Tucano Some of it Could of been Designed a Lot Better and The Pilatus Pc9 Was Better To See Even in 750shp The RAF Had over 130 of these when i was there.
Used to live there, every morning the Tucano would wake me up as it went past my house on the base, hopefully ill be flying one of these past my old house in a few years.
236 Course, you lucky, lucky people. May you all have passed the course and get to wear those glorious wings. For 18 years I regretted that my uniform lacked them. Accuracy my boy - 5 knots, 5 degrees, 50 feet and get that ball centred! For information the camouflaged aircraft at 3.52 are a Supermarine Spitfire II of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (not a Hurricane) and a Shorts Tucano painted in a 1940s style camouflage scheme in homage to The Few.
Nr1from1978 I sat the Officer Aircrew Selection Board at Biggin Hill in '89 and failed miserably. I cried all the way home on the train to Bolton. Good luck to all the guys and girls who pass. Jammy bastards.....
Nobby Nolevel I went through aircrew selection for both BEA/BOAC and the RAF in 1971. Amazingly passed both and for reasons various chose to go the airline route. Got chopped after flying 16 hours without soloing. Couldn't look at an aircraft for years afterwards. 15 years later, serving in the RAF as a Fighter Controller, got my PPL after soloing in 5 hours! Trouble is, flying when you have to pay for it is afrighteningly expensive hobby,
Chris Carter Yes I heard of countries where you can take private lessons even in a fighterjet. Of course extremely expensive. But some countries are so desperate that they'ss do it. Maybe Russia?
Given the circumstances of last week, I've decided to no longer set foot in any plane at all. One was shot out of the sky, one chrased during landing, and the latest one chrashed in the desert ( route burkina faso). All in ONE WEEK!!
in order to be a fast jet pilot you need to be able to multi task, which some candidates find hard to do.it also helps if you have been in the air training corps which shows the selection board you have an interest in aviation.a sound education a levels or a degree gets you on the application form. there are aircrew that wears glasses so you dont have to have perfect vision as long as you meet raf requirements. it takes as long 4 years to be an operational pilot after basic flying school.
This is really an amazing video, congratulations to all RAF Pilots. The airplane is a brazilian one, called Tucano and largely used to patrol brazilian borders. There is a new version of this airplane which is much more modern, its the Super Tucano.
Thank you for that amazing video! Like thousands of other ATC cadets...hopefully I could be doing that one day. However what's left of the RAF things are looking slim :(
These Tucs were made in Ireland! They're different to the Embraer Tuc - theyr'e stronger and have a 1150hp Garret engine instead of the 750hp PT6. I've flown both and the RAF Tuc is way better.
Awesome. When I grow up I wanted to be in the U.S. Army but now I want to be in the RAF because of the project i'm doing! Im only a kid, BUT I CAN DREAM!
RAF, but yet you are american if you want to be in the U.S army. you cannot not join the RAF, i can cause im English and i have been told i am able to join
I would give everything i own to get the opportunity to train as a fast jet pilot in the RAF.all my worldly possetions, even both my bollocks, not kidding.
But then the audio would have been in general a backgound rumble with occasional bits of intercom speech. Not particularly exciting. If you're thinking of the roar of the Tucano as it flies by (the shots in the Mach loop) that would have been completely artificial. You can diss their choice of music though, frankly, I thought the track chosen was great, but 'authentic sounds' probably wouldn't have enhanced the experience.
Terrific video, chap :-) The LL stuff in the valleys make all the hours in the classroom and behind the books worth it, eh? Could be a recruitment video ;-)
@@giantape6465 I’ve not, but even if I tried to I’m way too tall to pass the medical exam. At 6ft5in/ 1.95m, my knee-buttock length is too great. It sucks but ah well! I’m pursuing a career in architecture instead, but I still have a love for flying in general.
How does the Tucano compare to the hawk? how does BFJT prepare you for the hawk? 124 hours is a lot of hours compared to other courses in the training system, why is it so long, what do you cover apart from basic handling skills, nav, emergencys?? thanks
And we lose the Tucs to retirement this year :-( See the "LOP" Tucanos everyday overhead but to have seen one dogfighting an F-3 would have been up there in my moments witnessed with my own eyes
Ok i've done research and all, and i'm a lot more informed on this. Looks like i'll have to wait 10 years to get into HM armed forces, all thanks to conscription in my country :p. Even then my chances are very slim 4 years in a UK uni (really hard) get work and a tier 2 visa (harder) apply for extension after my 3 years are up (even harder) and apply for ILR when i've lived for 9 years (4 years with student visa, 5 years tier 2). Wait for another year then apply for UK citizenship.
One of the most beautifully made propeller planes out there, simply stunning.
+Mister K The Pilatus PC-9A is awesome

Not, EMB Tucano

You're gonna get the shock of your life if you think those fast jets fly at 450mph. Triple that number and that's a more realistic flying speed.

I miss the Tucs playing chase up the dale. I'm so old I remember when they were brand new and replaced the Provosts.

They were produced in Belfast by Shorts (now owned by Bombardier) under license from Embraer.
2020? This video just shows the pure beauty of joining the Air Force of any country seems like beautiful moments can be made.
Very nice chaps-reminds me of the gaggles of spitfires the way you maneuver over the countryside
Fantastic video. I'm very proud to be brazilian and to know that Short Tucano comes from Brazil.
I remember visiting Linton on Ouse as a atc cadet in 1996 as a member of 163 squadron.
A BRILLIANT VIDEO FOR ALL INTERESTED IN PILOT TRAINING

nice video. I'm currently in the admission process to be an RCAF pilot. We use the same planes for basic I believe. Can't wait to fly one!
The RAF ROCKS love this vid!!! Nose gear light not working just give the tail a lift.
i wet in the tucano flight simulator in r.a.f linton-on-ouse and it was amazing !
Super stuff , great editing and flying a joy to watch
I'm in love .... Beautiful airplane.
Thank you for posting this video.
Im gonna apply to become a RAF Pilot, right after I go to harogate AFC, need atleast 5 GCSE's (including maths, English and a science), cant wait :D
Erazy Ctazy234 and 2 a levels
Great movie great music. I love this movie:). Greetings from Polish video is amazing. I want to be fighter pilot and fly like on this film
You have the best job in the world, you lucky, lucky man, great video
I think the song really suits the video! Nice work!
That is a beautiful aircraft and an outstanding video.
Well done, the music really adds to the video.
Work of art, can't wait to sign up!

Great video!! People are just slating it because it doesn't have Drowning pool - Bodies as the sound track! Think the music fits perfectly, nice one!
Haha! 'Excuse me, can you give the tail a lift?'
Are you a fighter pilot?

Wonderful to see that plane along the historic Spitfire... and yeah, made in Brazil :)
I even like to see a ´´brasileirinho `` putting it to blast in the RAF
You can keep the Spitfire. Give me this beauty every day.
Wonderful to see that plane along the historic Hurricane... and yeah, made in Brazil :)
Thank you for that amazing video! Like thousands of other ATC cadets...hopefully I could be doing that one day. However what's left of the RAF things are looking slim :(
Hi I live fairly close to RAF Linton-On-Ouse, On the landing path of Runway 21! Probably flown over my house! :)
The closest you'll get to flying a fighter jet without ever actually getting into one 👌
sick video - great flying

Step on that ball! Good show
This was the only RAF aircraft I didn’t fly in. Pain in the arse to open line refuel though.
Hop in one of these Tucanos and burn some JET-A. Get back to base & pour a frosty one. Now that's living! Lucky Bastards. :)
Sensational work boys. Great camera footage and brilliant editing. And finally, unlike the yanks, nice music for once !
Awesome. When I grow up I wanted to be in the U.S. Army but now I want to be in the RAF because of the project i'm doing! Im only a kid, BUT I CAN DREAM!
Go for it lad!
RAF, but yet you are american if you want to be in the U.S army. you cannot not join the RAF, i can cause im English and i have been told i am able to join
Hey! That's a very pessimistic view! He can Join the USAF and after so many years of service, he can apply for an exchange program. Let the kid dream!
I will, but I was trying to get the point across that he wouldn't be in the RAF he would be in the USAF.
Well good luck old chap! Tally Ho!
I would give everything i own to get the opportunity to train as a fast jet pilot in the RAF.all my worldly possetions, even both my bollocks, not kidding.
Can’t wait for air cadet intakes and start my journey
authentic sounds of the flight would have been nice. Audio is huge part of the experience

Excellent video chap. Many thanks! P.S. Can I have a go please? Cessnas are boring....
Correct me if I’m wrong but is it a Tucano?
Keep the spitfire
this is more cooler then the modern jets.
Will you ever reupload your other videos? I miss the Hawk video you did with bubbles by Biffy Clyro
Terrific video, chap :-) The LL stuff in the valleys make all the hours in the classroom and behind the books worth it, eh? Could be a recruitment video ;-)
Envious not at all!!!! Superb video
Tucano is the best.
@shirts4307 don't forget the Embraer Tucano; not sure if it's actually a fast-jet trainer though!
Excellent stuff
thanks for the video, i dream of becoming an raf pilot one day.
Have you? Lol just wondering after 9 years

I swear this is what i'm going to do in life!
You doing it yet 🙏
my friend told me you should join the RAF...and i'm like bro i can't even drive a car talk about flying a jet
this should be the video for the song
they are living my dream.. so jealous..
great editing!
You had a great hack video too, where did that go?
Great vid!
2:43 spin recovery training, fun times

TorqueOfTheDevil1, when you complete training on the Hawk do you know where you want to go from there ie. Tornado, Typhoon etc?
Yes! It`s a powerfull aircraft.. To training.. and to fight.
