In 1998, I found the very same size and type hammer, that had been welded to a piece of 1/2” galvanised water pipe. Removed the pipe, cleaned it up and fitted a proper handle. It has been my main blacksmithing hammer ever since and is a little beauty! 👍😁👏👏
Awesome transformation. May God bless you for not running the music throughout the entire video. The tool sounds themselves make the best music. Even the sound of wiping on the finish is better than computer generated music. That said, you really do outstanding work. Thanks for sharing with us.
For restoration purposes, maybe you made it right, but for real life use - not at all. Firstly, welding the hammer is not the best idea, because the metal molecules change their grating and structure. The welded spots become hardened, which is not what you usually want for a hammer. Secondly, the wooden handle you made, it should not have a sharp "support" under the hammer. It should be cone shaped instead. Also, there is no need to use any epoxy. Properly secured handle is good enough and will last the life of the hammer, unless you break it by improper usage.

It made me nervous too. Counterpoint is that the guy looked like he had been using saws like that for a long time, and still had all his fingers. Not something I would do. If he loses one, he will have no one to point a nub at, but himself.
Great job, even if it were kind of dangerous at some points 6:44. And as pointed by others, the welding of the battered parts without normalising and annealing the hammer afterwards, has probably damaged a bit its structual integrity. Technically speaking, the first handle, the welded one, was literally indestructible. Of course with the added weight, you had to be Thor to wield the hammer afterwards. But the outcome is a beauty.
While the steel handle is a lot stronger the rebar as a handle would do your wrist no favours I worked at the steel game for 11years what he did even that welding will in no way harm it C02 weld is a hard weld now if it were cast then he would be ruining the metal you need cast metal rods to weld cast 👍
