Hi Craig mate, that's a lovely tidy job you've done.Ive done a canny few of those knock throughs over the years👍we could do with one of them jobs judging by the forecast next week here in the northeast🙉😁👍
Thanks man Dave really appreciate your comments mate 👊 aye man, ideal when it’s crap outside. It’s looking pretty rubbish up here next week like isn’t it. Where are you at Dave, I’m in Newcastle area 👍
@@davebarrow2194 class mate, I’m just down the road, South Shields 👍 drop me a dm on insta so I know who you are on there. Good to know for future work etc 👊
@@davebarrow2194 I seen your notification on the lock screen, went to reply, cant remember what app it was one and now I cant see it on any of them 😂🤷♂️ send it again please mate
Have been waiting for a video like this for ages, have to do the same in my own house and have been considering tackling it myself bar the plastering. Good video!
Ahhh, that is really awesome to hear Anthony 😀 thank you man, I hope it helps you if decide to take on the work yourself. If you do and get stuck you can always fire me a message on socials and I’l try help out the best I can. I would strongly advise though, strong boys are not very suitable if your opening is going to be any wider than this. I’d go for a needle option. Same preparations to a strong boy but the needle goes through instead and sits onto acrows on both sides of the wall 👍 Really appreciate the feedback mate, thank you 👊❤️
Great video, i think i can tackle mine myself, what about building regs and all that though did you need to get it all calculated first my a structural engineer then have building regs manege it/check it?
Hi, a video on the step by step process of who to speak to for permissions etc in order to take on this kinda work or any other , would be great. Cheers
I could try to get one together on our next job like this 🙂 in short though, you’d speak with your local council to let them know your intentions. They may want steel work calculations drawn up by an structural engineer and also oversee the project inspecting the work once the padstone’s are in place pre plastering. Hope that helps 🙂
Great job, sorry if I missed it in the video but why did you put the strongboys two courses above the steel? Couldn't you have put them directly above the steel to save bricking up the gap?
Good question, i didn’t cover that. Its because we dont want the strong boys in the way when lifting the steel into place 🙂 I was always taught it’s best practice this way 🙂
Matey. Just subscribed. This is the best video I’ve seen and I’ve seen hundreds as I’m about to do this same job. You deserve many more subscribers. How can we make this happen.
Thanks for the kind words mate, appreciate that 🤝🙂 I’ve no idea how to get more, i guess people just need to like what they are watching. Watch time & sharing etc helps it be pushed out more. Good luck with your knock through mate 🤝🙂
We dont do these anymore & this was quite a while ago so the price would be outdated. A good guide is to expect to pay good quality competent trades £700 per day for two lads, plus materials on top.
As the bricks are going straight to a skip, why bother with removing the plaster? It caused a lot of dust and health risks in case it had any asbestos contents!
@@CraigToddBrickwork Thanks Craig for this answer, it makes more sense now. Grab wagon was probably a choice: maybe lack of space, permitting, cost/labour or access was the reason you made that choice? Either way best of luck and take care of yourself also your team 👍
Thats it mate, space for a skip with out it getting filled by residents and also price is better for a grab + plus other hardcore from other work which can be in the grab too
Great video. Grateful for your thorough explanation and tutorial. Amazing to see a great builder in action!
Glad you liked it! Thank you🙂

Your welcome
Why steel over concrete? And also what's the price difference?
Bigger opening I prefer steel work
Steel will last for ever and holds more load bearing
Concretes ok over windows and doorways steel is better for traffic above
How much for a job like this including the steel?
Unsure how much this cost to be honest, it was a while back now. Maybe 1500-2000
Invest in a Professional 🎤, lovely Job 👍
Wrong. Invest in yourself. Knowledge gathered is tools forever.
Thank you 🙂🤝

Good question mate, its because we use a grab wagon to remove the hardcore & they cant take plaster
