The Adeste Fideles here as the first anthem of Portugal is by some taught to be composed by king John IV of Portugal but there are no proof of this. The oldest document is from John Wade but, there might be some influence from King John's music. It was played often in diplomatic representations of Portugal, especially in the UK, being nicknamed, the Portuguese hymn by the brits
@@Rotebuehl1 It's called the Portuguese Hymn because an British noble heard it playing at the Portuguese Embassy in London, we don't know if it was official, but it is one of the first records of an Portuguese anthem and it should be kept, also it was composed by King John the Fourth of Portugal.
The first few are more like "proto" anthems, as nacional anthems weren't really a thing back then, they were mostly royal and military marches and such. The only two official anthems of Portugal are Hino da Carta and A Portuguesa

Nope, the official anthem is the short version of A Portuguesa. Yes, A Portuguesa extends further as a song with more verses, but those aren't considered part of the official anthem.

There are sung versions of the Anthem of Maria da Fonte (Hino do Minho), my favorite is by singer Vitorino Salomé
Bro, Portugal putting the Catholic song "adeste fideles" as its anthem makes it a country totally based 😎🇵🇹🇻🇦⛪✝️

O Come All Ye Faithful was Portugal's national anthem, at some point, eh?
It was composed by the Portuguese King John IV
A Christmas song on a Portuguese national anthem? Why?
It was composed by a Portuguese king, John IV, in the 17th century. Now, I don't think it was ever the Portuguese anthem, but that's just my opinion.
The music was played in the Portuguese diplomatic corps in England and in Portuguese Catholic chapel in London, I think specifically in the embassy and the music ended up playing the role of a national anthem, representing the country
