I was there that evening with my Father. When they played the 1812 with the eight field guns and church bells and the whole of the end stands wast filled with fireworks. Absolutely brilliant. Brings back wonderful memories of my Father.
You don't want to see what has become of the German armed forces... our defense minister now addresses his soldiers as "soldieresses and soldiers", and they use broomsticks for vehicle-mounted machine barrels during exercises, because there aren't enough real barrels to go around. The death of the Soviet Union was perhaps the greatest tragedy that ever hit the West. Everything that barely held the threads of society together until then is coming undone now.
That's wonderful such beautiful playing. I used to play trombone and euphonium at school (up to grade 5 level). Wished I still played. The consolation is that I can watch and listen to the beautiful playing of the military bands on RUclips.
Absolutely bloody brilliant. 44 years old and it looks and sounds amazing. Wembley has gone now and I expect a lot of the people concerned would be their 70s now. But what a magnificent sight. And the sound perfect. Good old Wembley she was a great stadium. To still see this, what a site for sore eyes. So proud of all concerned then. They did a magnificent job. I hope the Queen was there to see this, she loved all this as I still do.❤
I was at this tattoo - a really great occasion - great sounds, great emotions. Sadly, lots of the bands on parade that day and their regiments are no longer in existence.
I was seated in the front row at the North end. I was with the RAF & had an Army buddy who invited me to this magnificent once in a life time extravaganza.
British Military Bands are the best in the world without a doubt, I view them all the time on You Tube, as a former soldier I love it, I understand the drill. Robert. New Zealand.
I have to agree. I've been in marching bands and I just love watching them. The beating retreat video from 2018 of the Royal Marines is probably the best.
just found this clip, I was still in Chelsea barracks when this was on, our armed forces were so much bigger back then. but with cut backs its so small today, but one other thing is that young people don't play instruments like we did back then. our school had a big brass band and orchestra as well, which a lot of players went on to the forces bands. now its all phones and internet rather than a hobby of playing something, so many town bands struggle to get young players in these days.
You are right we have gone soft and reduced our military capability by far too much we are lazy fat entitled and ill prepared for any future threats. We are not great

Back in '81, it was even different because some Regiments had bands at the level of the Battalion, while most of the Corps had several bands each. I have watched the above many times since the '80s but from the perspective of 2024 it just looks like a different world. A gigantic band like the above is almost like a super-organism. The way that sound sways and rocks backwards and forwards! Presumably the sound in the centre was truly deafening.
