Ok I am a fan of La Gazza Ladra from Marek i Vacek so I am always comparing everything to it. And I liked this rendition until around 8:20, which in the first repetition took power but here kept it and after 8:44 I totally loved it and I started to get goosebump. I like when it sounds dirty and not to clean, which some hard bass notes and and a passionate pianist will do.

Just curious, what effect would that have on the audio? Is that why the piano sounds kind of... underwhelming? Or is that just me?

Trust me, good sir. Everybody will be more impressed when you play this well without the overly dramatic shakes, movements, and overly exaggerated gestures.
If I could play this well, I would do it with as few possible moves as I could.
The latins had a word for everything : histrio - histrionis, a person who talks, moves or act in an exaggerated theatrical way.

I also am a pianist, (not nearly as good as him) but you sometimes get into the music so much that you move your body with dramatic shakes, especially if you love the piece you’re playing. It may just be that he’s enjoying playing it, and he may not be aware that he is moving that much
and I would do some more exercises to master all the tills, repetitions etc. so that they are actually played and heard :)
Honestly I can't stand still just hearing this music, so I guess that playing it would carry the musician really into it.
