    I said it before and I'll say it again. I love that you play your games randomly. It really is something I aspire to WANT to do but every time I go to choose a game I'll look up how long it takes to be there and the metacritic review even though I don't always agree with the reviews 😂😂😂😂
    Metroid zero mission is one I definitely want to play and I want to say I'll do it this year but God knows. I've said that 8,000 times....I need to start making a list 😂

    I loved Metroid: Zero Mission. It is one of the very few remakes I really like, and I also felt like the post-regular game stealth stuff was actually pretty good.
    Ninja Kid was originally based on the manga/anime GeGeGe no Kitaro in Japan before getting stripped of the license in the US. I accidentally discovered that years ago when I got the Famicom original in an ebay lot, and it all makes a lot more sense with the license all about spirits and youkai. It does get monotonous no matter how you slice it, though!

    Wow, 2600 paddle controller, what a throwback! I have to believe that this was a holdover from all the Pong-like games that were popular earlier in the 70s, before the 2600 was released.
    I recall playing Night Driver on the 2600 with that controller. Good times. About as “immersive” as the co sole could get, at that stage.
    I think I did play one shooter-ish game wit ph the 2600 paddle - it was called Demons to Diamonds. Really unconventional, you had a beam that would be extended to hit targets in further rows. In some ways it almost felt like a shooting gallery. Really quirky but I did have fun with it, way back in the day. Thanks for triggering that memory!
    I never played Solar Storm, but Imagic has some other bangers on that machine. Demon Attack still holds up very well for what it is. And I also recall Cosmic Ark and Atlantis.

    • @RNGGamerYT
      @RNGGamerYT  8 месяцев назад +1

      It's such a good controller! The reason they used it was because potentiometer technology had been around forever and worked well... and was readily available to buy off the shelf.
      It was definitely a holdover from the Pong Days.
      I played Demons to Diamonds last year and enjoyed it!

      @sfbsfb 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@RNGGamerYT I also remember a slightly different controller for the 2600, called the “driving” controller. Cosmetically , it looked practically identical to the paddle controller. However, while the paddle controller could be turned “only so far” to the left before it would stop - and same with the right - the driving controller could be turned left or right indefinitely.
      I think there were very few games compatible with the driving controller. The only one I recall was Indy 500, which was similar to the old Super Sprint top-down racers.

    • @RNGGamerYT
      @RNGGamerYT  8 месяцев назад +1

      @sfbsfb yeah! It's the Racing controller. It spins all the way around instead of having a stopping point. You use it for Indy 500

    I wish the Gegege No Kitaro (Ninja Kid) series would get translated for western audiences, it looks like a really interesting series.
    You should check out the PS1 game, it's difficult, but it's 2d sprites and is a fantastic looking game. Expensive though, so you may need to emulate it.

    Some interesting games here. I should have picked up Kirby Air Ride when I used to see it, but there were always higher priority games to pick up. And now it just feels hard to justify paying what it usually goes for. And Zero Mission, I've played before, but had a lot of fun with it on your streams.
    The interesting one here for me though is Solar Storm. Now I've never had a lot of love for the Atari. I didn't get into video games much as a kid until the NES. Most Atari games have always been a little too simple to hold my attention very long. I did pick up an Atari lot maybe 10 years ago, but I've only had it hooked up a couple of times because my hands always cramp up after 5 minutes with a joysticks, and most of the best games I have in compilations on other consoles. However, the Atari I picked up did include the paddle controllers, which I have never used. I am going to have to track down a copy of Solar Storm and try it out.
    So I have to ask, are there are any other games that you'd recommend playing with the paddle controllers as being the superior way to experience that game? You've totally sold me on trying out the paddle controllers now.

    • @RNGGamerYT
      @RNGGamerYT  8 месяцев назад +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed the Zero Mission streams! I'm also surprised that Air Ride goes for any money at all. I figured it was a $10 game or something...
      The very best 2600 game is Kaboom! It's on the paddle controllers. It's an absolute blast!

      @johnnyp2002qq 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@RNGGamerYT Haha, I used to see Air Ride often for $20-25, now it goes for around $80. I'm priced out of the market on pretty much anything on the Gamecube that I didn't get around to picking up years ago, unless I happen to luck into something. And thanks, I'll definitely be on the lookout for a copy of Kaboom!
