a story about 1982 Firebird hubcaps..when i bought mine in 1986 the car was on the lot without the black hubcaps..i asked the dealer about them and he said as soon as i bought the car he would hand me the hubcaps..the reason was that they go missing off of the cars pretty easily as in they fly off or someone decides they want them more than you do (the five holes made it perfect to stick your fingers and thumb in and pull them off)..most 1982 Firebirds driving around in 1986 had at least one missing if not all four..they were very expensive at the time..i ran them for about six months and decided to just take them off ...when i sold the car 5 years later i did the same thing that the dealer did... when i sold the car i handed the hubcaps to the new owner ...
When the Television gods smile upon you and believe in your show so much they derail a train to bless you with additional cars and their various parts.
24:58 I guess that was why we don't see Michael pressing buttons on the overhead console that often through Season 1. Don't think we even see him use it at all in the first few episodes til "Just My Bill". Though I could be mistaken. In Seasons 2-4, he's pressing buttons on the overhead console in almost every episode.
The California DMV allowed fake license plates using PCE and PCI with preceding numbers 000-499 to be used in film productions. These number/letter sequences were never actually issued.
These are amazing ive watched all 4 seasons 100 times & barely noticed these things about the cars even in HD on a huge screen! Ive always just noticed the basic stuff but when the others are pointed out you cant not see them ever again lol! Thats nuts you have the pics of the Firebirds in the train wreck! Imagine if one slipped away & didnt get crushed after the show!
Another great video with lots of information on a really good episode. Thank you for taking the time during the priority override to reply to my question about the wrecking ball incident. I hope you continue with these videos so many youtubers start a series like this and give up half way through. I think it is interesting to see little parts of the shows and the cars particularly that back in the 1980's you never would have had the opportunity to see. Again keep up the great work and can't wait for the next episode. Also just watched ( A Plush Ride ) and after watching your series I was able to spot several things I never noticed before. There is a whole 2 minute car chase towards the end where you can clearly see I believe you call it the stunt car with the round steering wheel and the regular car dash. Also Kitts terrain map is just a black and white picture on the insert dash. Cool things to notice thumbs up 👍.
Regarding R.A.Cinader, there’s a wonderful memorial plaque dedicated to him at Fire Station 127 in Carson California. That location famously portrayed Station 51 in the series “Emergency”. It’s a cool place to visit and the Firefighters there are proud of its history.
Loved the backstory behind the train derailment and the photos! The part where Michael and Marty are on the run is one of my favorite car chases in the show! Keep up the great work! I love looking forward to these!
I remember going on the studio tour in May of 83 and seeing a car carrier full of KITTs parked on a hillside along the tram route, I believe it was near the collapsing bridge which was down for repairs at the time.
That ad KITT was in was so funny to me. He REALLY must have been having a hard time, seeing as his windshield is supposed to be bulletproof. Poor KITT!
I was kid during the 80s. It had a feeling. A way of life not found today. A schedule to meet for a show. Change for a phone call. A memory for your closest friends phone numbers. Riding your bike to your friends house. The boom box carry. The toys. The great movies. The hot clothes. My dads crappy luggage and suits. Lol. And the crappy box shaped cars. That really helped make kitt look really cool.
Big Knight Rider fan here and you are correct. The briefcase was used in Knight of the drones Everytime David Halstead tried blowing up k.i.t.t. also driving the drone cars.
Another question is why did the noses have indentions for the turn signals when the signals themselves were removed or at least the bulbs after the first few episodes? The completely flush noses weren't until Season 4 when they could have been much earlier especially when they must have went through hundreds of noses throughout the series...
Absolutely incredible. I watch many of movies and can point out glitches like you have done. It is fun to do just to show I pay attention to details. Thank you so much for sharing this I think you did a fantastic job. Totally enjoyed it. I have often wondered how many TA's were actually destroyed doing some of the outrageous stunts. The train derailment kind of sums it up. By chance are you aware of how many really ended up in the scrap yard after filming the series? I support these guys who do replicas and have sold many parts to these guys all around the world to finish their life long dream of owning a replica of KITT.
28:47 - In remembrance of R.A. Cinader...he was an original! He also previously worked with Jack Webb and Mark VII Limited on shows like 'Adam-12' and 'Emergency!', which, like 'Knight Rider', originally aired on NBC!
Another nicely done commentary. This is another of my favorites.I remember seeing this on NBC and really enjoyed the comedic interplay between David Hasselhoff and Marvin Karon very much.Marvin was also in a season three episode of Airwolf directed by Sutton Riley and gave another nice performance in that series as well.About the time of the Airwolf episode Marvin was involved in a legal case where he was warned against portraying characters that behave similar to Woody Allen in any manner.Interesting that mention the film Bullit and one of that films stars Don Gordon is in this episode.Speaking of detaching bowling ball hubcaps it would be interesting to know if Knight Rider came up with a way of securing them to the wheels better.I always am sad when I hear about the derailed train cars had to be destroyed when filming was finished on the series.I think about all of the interior and exterior parts unique to the 1982-1983 Trans am that were probably salvageable and had to be crushed due to legal reasons. Thanks for another very enjoyable segment!!!!

Not sure if you've mentioned it, but with the seat belts removed, which I assume is basically just for looks, did Hasselhoff and other passengers usually wear some type of lap belt or were they just always 'driving dangerously'?
the starting of this episode with the weekend warrior and whitebird was cool and on episodes where the computer console was on one was soul survivor and knight of the drones
15:02 I also saw this warehouse in some episodes of The Incredible Hulk, another Universal series, especially in "Stop the presses" and "Terror in Times Square"
Bernard Kowloski also was involved with Airwolf as well mostly in season 3. And this is a interesting documentary about the train derailment which explains the origins of some of the cars that played KITT. I also think that suitcase laptop also was in Airwolf as well.
At first glance I saw Elizabeth Knight in that drawing. Also, I’m pretty sure that prop “computer” was in the underground lab in Juggernaut. Also, those “Silver Image” speakers were a line under the Marantz brand, so they were probably decent.
@24:13 .. On the Lincoln .. That's the licence plate from Dennis Weaver's Valiant in Duel! Of course now you can buy reproductions .. but then? I wonder if that's the actual plate? BTW, first time watcher, just stumbled in somehow .. but you got a hook in. Excellent work.
Oh no not team knight rider nooooo! Anything but that! Lol. That was funny! I actually met the guy who played Kyle on team knight rider he was at the car show here in Phoenix, Az long time ago pretty cool guy.
Great episode, both the KR and your commentary :) Never seen pics of the train accident before, seems to be bigger accident than I imagined by looking at the damage. Wondering how long Knight Rider would've continued if this accident never happened? Probably wouldn't have been lasting 4 seasons?
Man, would it be nice to get an unopened box of those Speakers. Those were Marantz speakers from the period where they were actually good; not the previous decade's "Squacker" boxes.
We see that prop in knight of the drones(being used by dr haulston[sp] to control the cars) and knight in disgrace(where Boyd is using it to spy on the foundation)
What was the burn mark (black headrest) in the scene around 1:46 (my video went to a commercial ad right after that segment) the headrest was blackened and they were showing the notch in the driver's seat around the headrest linking it to KARR.
Was the warehouse scene in this episode also used in Trust Doesn’t Rust? Looks sort of like the same scenery with Tony and KARR at the County jewel exhibit warehouse.
Wow awsome commentary. I had some questions for your next q and a and one of them is for this commentary. Hope u can answer. The commercial for the glass shows a miniature of Kitt blasting through a train, one of the scenes in Knight of the Juggernaut when Jennifer Knight is showing the board some stunts they have filmed Michael and Kitt doing. Now even as a kid I was like he jumped over a train in Custom Kitt and through an open railcar in Knight in shining Armor but don't remember Kitt crashing through a train so was that scene just filmed to show more property damage in Juggernaut or just filmed for the glass commercial. Been bugging me for years
Lmao that a bulletproof car needed its windshield replaced and pimping an auto glass business. Joe Dimaggio once turned down a denture company because he told them he still had all his teeth.
I remember reading somewhere that the show went through an average of about 1 car per 3 episodes. So they definitely had a fair number of them. Do you happen to know how many show cars survived? I thought it was 5 but I really don't know. I heard that 3 slated for crushing from season 1 ended up in private hands. David had one until just recently, he just sold it at auction. You have one which makes 5 total. Are there more real show cars in private hands or museums? I think there are 2 official right hand drive cars in Australia.
There are 5 surviving cars. David has never owned an original. We own 2, another is in private hands in Europe and the last 2 are in museum collections.
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial Oh you have 2?! Amazing. I'm glad they're in the hands of somebody that cares so much about the history and importance of KITT.
