I have to have this one. The color got me super sold. Hey I usually play very sleek, modern thin neck guitars, Ibanez and the likes for proggy accuracy, shredding and excellent reliability but I have a thing for harder to play guitars with a LOT of personality, and this goes out to anything Gibson and Fender. They just make me go outside my usual box and play fresh but reminiscently vintage licks that I take a lot of fun and joy in playing. The Jazzmaster has all that and seeing how you can improve her into some meet-me-halfway spot so that it's comfy enough to play while retaining her flavour is what got me settled. I'm getting this same capri orange jazzy as soon as I can get my hands on one. Good honest insight! Cheers!
I bought a player Jaguar and they put the coil split right where you want yours.Weird they didnt do it with the JM.Had to swap out the HB in the bridge, and get better pots.Other than that its about perfect.
After fiddling with mine for one week I found out what this guitar needed in order to become a semi-shredder: Shims, to slant the neck upwards so the higher notes don't choke on bends. And I mean serious shimming. I can shred and do high bends on it now while keeping generous amounts of note clarity on lower notes for chords and surf music. In case it helps someone commit to purchase this otherwise nice Jazzmaster! Also get some locking tuners eventually before you take her out on a gig.
@@GearGasms Yay! Glad to assist, it's an honor actually - huge radius necks player here, getting familiar with vintages as I age and I'm just starting to love them since they suggest a different approach to the things you normally play. Already absolutely subscribed my friend! Loved your take on honest reviews with that filthy fun humor twist of yours
I like fender. To be honest, I don't hear much difference between fender solid bodies except tele - your jazzy jeff sounds no different to me than my strato mex HSS - after myriad switch doo-dad settings on the onboard switches. But, you, with that guitar, and the color, made me for the first time ever, like a jazzy! I DO like that geetar! I also wish that I had your kinda monetize to afford new guitars all the time like you!
Just bought one and after testing it live, a thing I really hate about it is the high E string gets stuck on the neck pickup when i strum it...I pretty much like everything else though, great action, sounds great and stays in tune...
I just pulled the trigger and got myself one. I like it. A lot. BUT! It needs work and I agree with all the issues you mentioned and I'll drop in a couple more. Nut is cut too shallow (at least it's not the opposite) - fixable. Pau ferro fretboard is... okay I guess? Nice texture after an oil-up though. Push-pull coil splitter shaped like a classic fender knob is a terrible idea - I ended up with the knob in my hand after the first try as it required too much grip to pull up. I'm replacing that knob with a metal, ridged one with a locking screw. Pickup selector feels wrongly oriented, it's not a natural motion to use it - fixable by rotating it a bit as you said. Action??? Way too high and lowering the bridge and adjusting saddles didn't make it perfect (high frets buzz like crazy). It requires a lot of work in that regard and in fact I think it may even need higher frets leveling (bending on higher notes chokes the strings with mid-low action). Truss rod adjustments are in order to see if that improves. Bonus issues: 1) In my case, trem arm was loose as heck, I took the trem system apart and used some pliers to create an otherwise non-existing friction where the bar gets inserted which would hold the arm where I want and not just spinning around hopelessly. It also had some dead-play where the bar would go "clak-clak"; solved fortunately. 2) Tuners need an upgrade to good locking ones, if you play surf you'll be tuning her back a lot after each song if you're intense on the vibrato arm. Conclusion: Buy this guitar for the KILLER looks and decent pickups but be prepared spend a lot of time and elbow grease to make it a pro tool. I'm still in PURE LOVE with this guitar, nobody's perfect but they can improve. I rate it a 6/10 from factory. I strive for a 8/10 after sweating all over it trying to make it much, much better. They could sell this for 150 more bucks if all those small shitty problems were fixed in the first place besides action and playability which are almost luthier-tweaking zone. Thanks for the review again, I love this guitar and I'm commited to make her a joy to play - she's already a joy to look at. Rock on!
@@GearGasms Came to the realization that all my guitars have a rather flat of very flat fretboard radius. Traditional Fender necks like this one will always buzz or choke bendings at higher frets with low action. Time to hammer down/sand down some higher frets OR stay vintage and go high action, which I might hehe. Just wanted to share thoughts, keep up your great fun reviews!
Oil soaked rags can spontaneously combust. As the oil dries it gives off heat. You should clean most of the oil by hand with soap and water before putting the rag in the washer and dryer.
In Peach?! That’ll look awesome! I’m tempted to pick up a different CME exclusive and it’s the shell pink Duo Jet ooof what a beautiful guitar! Let us know when you get it!
@@GearGasms Thanks man! I got it already and it looks amazing but its a christmas gift to myself so I had to pull it out just to inspect it after shipping then it went back in the box .. Its my first Fender though so I'm hella stoked on it!
Great video, as always! I mean, the sound effects at least, if not the jokes! But hey, I'm just kidding, don't take it so serious, dude! Speaking of seriously, your comic timing is getting excellenter every video! I mean hey, I just turned 74, so you know my judgement's sound! And I even look healthier than Keith Richards.
@@GearGasms i almost got the squire active Jazzmaster but I ended up getting the schecter super shredder with active emgs. It was like 600 not bad at all for what you get! And it's a tele shape so its got a touch of class (chefs kiss)
I’m a PRS guy but even to me that endorsement feels weird. The one on one interviews that Paul does had one with Joe and it just didn’t seem like the relationship was well defined.
I gotta say I was a little disappointed with the QC of the player series strat I had after hearing all the hype I got rid of it I have a classic vibe strat which plays a feels much bette to me Love the orange though Have a good one my friend
Alan, they are the ugliest guitars I've ever seen Fender has ever built. I have no idea whatsoever what a "Pau Ferro board" is! Maybe you can cut some of the top wood, to your own personal liking? I think you should break up before you even start dating! (I HATE the term "dating"! I think that word was over and done with after Barbie and Ken broke up, and she got the Malibu Beach house, and alimony payments if $15,000 USD a month!) I think the correct terminology is "seeing each other", at whatever level a couple can be during a relationship! What do you think Alan? How do you think? Was it something you learned as a child, or did you discover how to control your thoughts during the difficult time of puberty, or still working on it? LoL! Just kidding, you're a funny guy who can take a joke almost as good as tell one! (or do videos with jokes) Many of them do make me LMAO! Thanks for that, the world certainly needs more humor! Too much serious sheet going on! Peace dude!

Yeah it really pops on camera for sure. You have a great weekend!
Fender should really come up with another hard tail guitar other than Telecaster to give options in shape & electronics' design.
Facts!!!!
True. Squires got you covered there though and they have some good shit around the 400 dollar range.

They call it lemen oil because it is made of lemons
It’s actually just mineral oil with some lemon in it but yes 🤓🤘🏻
No it is oil distracted from lemen peels. So pure lemon without its acids.
Not the lemon oil I use.
