Agreed, really great learnings. I appreciate tips on placement of your blade. Secondly, always open to ideas on strapping. Having a hard time determining what works best for me.
You can try to use the part of the blade closer to the toe or the heel (whichever is more natural for you) to get a good push off. Goal skates don’t have the rocker so there is more surface of the blade that can contact the ice. You could also try getting your skates sharpened at a deeper angle. Ultimately you want to tweak one thing at a time till you find what works for you and your movement style.
It could be a matter of your center of gravity. if you are 'sitting back' when you land in your butterfly that can cause you to spin. it could also be when you push and drop you aren't square in your push and in the process of pushing you may be kicking a leg out or pulling it back causing some rotation. best bet is to take some empty ice in warm ups etc and practice the movements at a slower pace so you can feel the push and your bodies positioning in your slide. Hope that helps :)
Hey Alex, When I Go To Do My Butterfly Slides I Dig My Toe Into The Ice & Then Push Across, I Can't Really Use My Heel To Slide Across Because It's Really Hard. 😊
I think at the end of the day getting caught up in the specifics of which part of the skate to push can hinder progress. Do whats comfortable and make it work everyones hips and joints are different so use your strengths and use them well :)
As a new goalie , this was extremely helpful.
i've been looking for a video like this for years, thank you
Great video. It makes a whole lot of sense to me now.
One of the best tutorials! Thank you! :)
This is a great tutorial, I learn a lot from this video.
This is by far the best tutorial I have ever seen! I think that I'm wearing my pads wrong my whole sporting experience! Thank you so much!

Personally, I am with using a professor strap and HAL toe straps to make it easier on me.
I don't know if its my skates, but whenever I push, I would always shave the ice instead of pushing

Question for you-when I drop to b slide and push I end up "spiralling" and lose squareness etc. What am I doing wrong?

Ok Thanks Alex.
how come when i push out of the butterfly my toe doesnt dig and i slip hence no slide
I have the same problem! my skate just slips and i look like a complete dufus!
Without watching you, I am assuming that your pads are too tight at the toe. Loosen off the toe lace to give you a greater range of motion.
