I like the Yamaha XT350s. I owned a 2000 model XT350M and did some suspension mods: I installed the forks, front wheel, axle, triple clamps, and front brake system from a 1986 IT200S. This was done because I could not find stiffer fork springs for the small, odd-sized 36mm fork tubes. After the 43mm forks from that IT200S were installed, being a very common 43mm tube meant there were plenty of spring rates to choose from and I easily selected the correct rate for the bike. Next was a rear shock built by Works Performance. The result was an XT350 with very good suspension. I know three other riders who rode an XT350 as well. Back in 1987, Yamaha did a clearance sale through Yamaha dealers where they were selling a brand-new 1986 XT350S for (if I recall) $1699. Imagine getting a deal like that on a new bike today. I know of two riders who bought their XT350S during that sale. I bought and repaired numerous dirt bikes and dual-purpose bikes over the years as a hobby. Two great ways to wear them out early is by not changing the oil (or even keeping an eye on oil level) and poor air filter maintenance, letting dirt into the intake air.
I had one of these with almost 40k miles on it, and it ran fine and was good, now I have 2 with less than 8k miles and both have engine issues. If these are taken care of they really last.
Good day Sir, I picked this bike up off a guy in Calgary. I have a service invoice for from you business. After seeing the shape from this video I get the work that went into the engine to get it running smoothly. Any further advice for a guy Who wants to keep this motor running for 80,000 more km?
Interesting! thanks for sharing... I'd be interested in knowing what mileage its done? I'm guessing by the state of it then it must be high or just badly cared for! Look forward to seeing more on this as I have a 86 Xt350 also.. mines a genuine 16000 miles and got her running sweet.
Yes very interesting. I stay at the coast. My 94 XT 350 has been standing outdoor under cover & with a tarp over it. It was running fine. Except for an oil leak which i think is possibly on the crankshaft seal ? Still to be determined. Im cleaning the bike up for external rust, cleaning carbs replacing a few external mechanical things & so forth. Lots of rusted bolts. Rusted spokes cleaned & treated. Cleaned & serviced front & rear suspensions. All good now. Will the bike be good to start after standing so long ? I mean inside the cylinder top & bottom. Would stuff have rusted in there like the camshaft & chain etc ? I will need to change the oil & filter of course. Possibly inspect the oil pump. Please any advice will be greatly appreciated ?
It’s possible that it might be rusty. The best thing to do would be rent or buy or borrow a bore a scope and then you can look down the spark plug hole.
@@outlawweldingmotorcyclerep1680 ok cool John. Thankyou so much for your valued input. I was a bit stressed. I'm in South Africa. We don't have Marvel mystery oil. I've heard mention of it on other US channels. Perhaps I could order it online without having to sell a kidney to cover the cost of the delivery
im looking at having a lot of the same work done on my 7000mile xt350, main bearing, cam chain etc but mine still runs ok ,no piston issues. what was your estimate if you dont mind me asking. ive got $2k allotted my local shop has a great tech but he gets 85 an hour. do you think i have enough or should i keep saving.

Filming motor build now.
Head is ported
Brilliant.... I can't wait 💪👍
If you can do the repair, you really should try to buy this motor and do it for yourself. These are so much fun
👍🤗🤗👊😊

If you have rust, fill it up with marvel mystery oil and let it soak

@@outlawweldingmotorcyclerep1680 puh Not that much :/
@@cybergeiger82 No. But because of the age the rubber on the intake boot had dried out, and he intern sucked some dirt inside and killed motor
