As a Senegalese who was born and raised in Thailand because I’m also Thai I’ve always seen the picture of bamba growing up whenever we would gather around the Senegalese community for Quran and some sort of dhikr. I visited Touba in 2011 as a kid and was invited into the home of the founder because my father was one of their best students. At that time I was still too young to communicate in foreign languages or innerstand the importance of where I was (they even bestowed a name upon me at that time which I try to reject, but for some time I start to accept it was Sohkna Amy Chiekh), but with the knowledge of Bambas system of education I now overstand how deeply I’m aligned to this path and how deeply it’s been resonating within me throughout my whole life. I am 20 now and yes i will livicate my actions towards a reform process that betters the world, but only Allah knows what impact I will make and how I will get there. 16:21

But never forget that we have to physically fight in the ways of Jihad as well. Don’t be fooled into living a pacifist subservient lifestyle. So we can lead good peaceful lives as Muslims, but don’t forget that even Rasulullah (PBUH) fought the Pagan Arabs in order to spread the true word of Islam.

Congratulations for the extensive research and quality of the output. Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba’s life and teachings could certainly not be covered in a 40mins video, but you managed to give a relatively fair introduction to his philosophy and the way of life he taught.
His message was and still is for the entire world and his teachings are even more important and powerful in the present days with a world that is so polarized.
Always reminds me of the following Quranic verse:
    Holy Quran 49:13
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

In every religious tradition, there seems to be a contest between pacifistic and militaristic elements. Like mysticism, quietism and relucsion, it pops up everywhere.

I think you will find it is less binary than that. Depends a lot on the context. If you leave Iran alone I am pretty sure they will be passive. If you bomb them then those passive people will become very non-passive.

Very interesting video Filip, as always.
You didn't mention though, the famous episode of Sheik Bamba allegedly throwing his prayer rug on the see to perform his salat while the French were deporting him. It is very common in the iconography about him and this image is often seen in many Senegalese homes.
