Hi Jon, I have wanted to visit Africa for many years now and what you said at the end of this video really resonated with me. This year I had a close friend steal hundreds of dollars from me and is no longer in my life. Ive lost family members and my dad was recently diagnosed with skin cancer. Thankfully it was caught early and is treatable. Your message at the end has inspired me to take action. Life is short and you never know when it will come to an end. That is why I can happily say that I have Contacted "Volunteer South Africa" and will be volunteering at the "Living With Big Cats" program this September 16-29! This video was the little nudge I needed to finally make this dream of mine come true. Thank you! :)

Thanks for your honesty in showing the HARD WORK of volunteering. Because of this, I had to be real with myself and admit that I wanted different things for my 2018 long-term African immersion. (I had unrealistic ideas about volunteering before I happened on your videos). I did still volunteer with big cats for several days, but the main thrust was bush camping and safariing with wild animals.
That said, after what I've experienced, I might circle back to volunteering on my next long-term African immersion. Your videos really help me decide and plan, so keep em coming!
Thanks a lot. I always try to give a realistic look and not just show the playing with animals. There is a lot of work and I never want to give the impression that it's simply a petting zoo holiday. Where are you heading for your next Africa immersion?
@@jonathan That's a good question. I think the earliest I'd return to Africa is 2020, starting in Morocco, traversing the entire Western African coast overland, and ending in South Africa with a volunteer experience. I need a break in 2019 (by exploring easier countries). As much as I enjoy overland bush camping, it's a really extreme way to travel long-term.

Don't ever stop doing what you're doing, you have no idea how many lives you are touching by showing these vids/ your awesome bro! This gives people a hope to explore another side of life, while some people are keeping up w/ the Jone's and struggling to make a living, them seeing a vid like this puts life into perspective- whats important and whats not and what they should pursue. All I see is people smiling and enjoying life, Thats contagious - thats it!

Hi Jon, thank you for sharing your experiences with these wonderful amazing animals given to us all from God! What an amazing blessing you have to experience being involved with them and how rewarding for the animals as well as yourself and others! I can totally relate to your journey you spoke of in 2018. I too experience such tragedy and severe challenges and those that I thought would be there for me were not! It's very tuff when you find yourself questioning those you never thought you would have to when it comes to needing someone to have your back and just be a trusting and true friend or family! In spite of it all I thank God that he held me together and made me a stronger person. I am recuperating from major surgery otherwise I would be signing up to volunteer myself. Sending my prayers for you and all those who are making such a difference in this world and for these animals!

Your words have inspired me and i'm sorry that last year wasn't the best year and when i'm 14 and *cough *cough* 9 months *cough* i'm going to a animal rescue centre to help animal because that is my dream to be with animals and help them and when i get a actual job that pays money i'll be working at a zoo and maybe after i'll go on my dream adventure to be with animals and i don't even have a pet yet so i don't really know how to bond with animals so thats why i'm saving up for a pup so i can bond with creatures and have a best friend

Going back to Africa, being around the animals and experiencing all the things that I did. It reminded me just how incredible and how beautiful life can be.
This is why I think it’s so important to experience things like this because when you are there you’re doing things that make you want to put down your phone and just be engaged and be present with the people around you. How many times in your life can you say that you’re having so much fun that you don’t even want to pick up your phone?
If you’re someone like me and you dream of this type of experience if you dream of getting to be around these incredible wild animals? Then this is something that you need to do!
If ‘2018 taught me anything it’s just how fragile and how fleeting life can be. There are a lot of people who were in my life this time last year that just, are no longer in it anymore. And all of them are people who thought they would have more time. This is why it is so important not to wait to live your dreams.
Don’t keep saying you’ll do this later. Don’t keep saying that you’ll going to do it a year from now, sometime in the future, because honestly the future is not promised to any of us. If you’re looking for a sign then… This Is It ~Jon Watson
