  • Killeen is a city in central Texas. It’s known for the Fort Hood military base. The base includes the 1st Cavalry Museum, featuring an outdoor exhibition of historic military vehicles. On the Central Texas College campus, the Mayborn Science Theater hosts planetarium shows. Lions Club Park has a swimming pool and a playground. East of the city, Temple Lake Park has picnic areas, a beach and bass-filled waters.

Was stationed there once with 13th Signal (deactivated now), I enjoyed my stay there and the fishing was good. I only ventured down range (Killeen) a 1/2 dozen times, it seemed the police were instructed to target the military. I got a speeding ticket there and I know damn good and well I wasn't speeding, after that experience I was glad to get the F out of Killeen.
I retired and move back to Texas, trust me Killeen never entered my mind as a place to live. Most of my time there I stayed on Base, the wife and I saw no reason to go to Killeen, we had everything we needed on base.

The last time I saw Killeen, TX was when I got out of the Army and left Fort Hood. Doesn't look like the place has changed much. One of my favorite hangouts in Killeen was a country bar called Sam's Station.

It has grown alot, and the post population is much smaller than the late 80s. I remember the pawn shops, credit stereo stores, Korean clip joints with papa san renting his daughtets out, O'Phelan's pub at the mall. I fucked a civi in the announcer's tower at the ball park. Don't remember the CW bar I met him in. Spent a lot of time on Lake Belton with the girl friend.

Everything north of highway 190 is the original Killeen. It is primarily a festering ghetto. Congress closed down several US military bases around the globe and transfered thousands of soldiers and their families to FT Hood. Massive commercial and residential projects soon followed. All of the new construction took place south of highway 190.Where everything is shiny and new. Many original businesses left old Killeen and moved south to accommodate the new population because that's where the money went.
