I think that Black Myth Wukong is like this years Hogwarts. A really popular game, that a lot of people love, but it’s not going to really be in that GOTY conversation. At least not at The Game Awards.
I’ve already pre-ordered Echos of Wisdom and I’m really excited to play it. I’m also really excited for the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake; apparently my dad really wanted to play the original when he was younger, but wasn’t able to. I’m going to get him the remake for Christmas so that we can play it together.

My dad would buy us the newest Skylanders or Little Big Planet and we’d spend the entirety of Christmas break playing it together. My dad is the main reason I play video games today. We always had a console in the house for as long as I can remember. First our Wii, then our ps3, our ps4, and now my switch and n64. Me and my dad spend most of our weekends these days playing Mario kart or watching me play an assortment of Zelda games.
Black Myth Wukong is a cool game, but with it sitting at a 81 for PC and 75 for PS5 on metacritic, I don’t see it being in the GOTY conversation like that.
@kotaku46 I enjoyed Black Myth Wukong but I would only rate that game an 85-87. It stands at the knees of Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok which that game really tries to micmic
Wait for switch 2 I would say personally. I bought a switch and alot of intresting stuff I wanted to play has known to need better hardware to runbetter , but that's just me😅

Astrobot and zelda echoes of wisdom as a candidate for game of the year just shows how sad this year has been for gaming... Dont get me wrong, i am hyped for those, but they are probably the worse candidates for game of the year in the gaming history.
I definitely don't see Astro Bot and Echoes of Wisdom as terrible candidates for GOTY. I don't think that GOTY needs to be some big cinematic type of game. A AAA level platformer the quality of Mario is for sure a worthy candidate, and if this Zelda rates in the high 80's to 90's, I think that it would def be a worthy contender too. This year hasn't been filled with as many 90+ rated games as last year, but I don't think this has been a sad year at all. Slower, yeah, but not sad.

Rebirth isn't the guarantee that it used to be. Especially after Astro Bot. It could lose out to recency bias alone. It's definitely going to be a tight race though, and it'll be interesting to see how Metaphor, Zelda, and Dragon Age turn out with their reviews.

Metaphor now has a 94 on metacritic and is getting glowing reviews … I think it’s very likely to win goty
