The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo's best franchises, but I've always preferred the 3D Zelda games. After playing through A Link to the Past for the first time, I now truly understand the 2D Zelda hype, and am even more excited for Echoes of Wisdom!

Last month's Nintendo Direct gave us a lot of insight into the rest of Nintendo's 2024, their 2025 outlook, and beyond. Join me as we took a look at 5 major takeaways for Nintendo in 2024, 2025, and beyond.
I'm absolutely in love. The gameplay, the mechanics, the premise and my god... the music! The overall aesthetics are a little bit childish but still gorgeous and it's a pleasure to be in this world. Even went off the beaten path up north over Lake Hyrule because can't stop myself from exploring everything. Having a blast here. 9/10 from me.

@JustKeepPlaying-b8e links awakening was a remake. I guess they designed this engine, but that's it. None of the elements or mechanics were original. It's about time link got his own game anyway.

I hope this is the start of many future playable Zeldas. While Link is usually characterized pretty much the same, there’s been some pretty unique Zeldas in the past like a ninja (Sheik) or a pirate captain (Tetra). They can do so many things with future playable Zeldas to really diversify the way LoZ games are played.
Yes! All of that would be awesome. I really hope that this is just the start for more playable Zelda in the starring role too. A ninja themed Sheik game would be really cool. And I hope that this is just the start of us getting consistent big 3D Zeldas and top down Zeldas too!

frame rate issues bland dungeons score is right on point
We’ll see. I didn’t see any reviews calling the dungeons bland, but I’m excited to play it for myself and see what’s up.
Hopefully the frame rate issues can get patched I would have accepted a stable 30 fps for a game like this but the whole spending half the game in the inventory screen is what kills it for me. I’m shocked to see how many 10 scores there were cause this is clearly not a 10 game. I’ll get it and have fun but from everything I’ve seen 8.5 sounds about right
I expected a bit higher but these still look great overall. I need to catch up on some other games but I'll get to this eventually!
Yeah, I was hoping for 90, but expecting 88/89. So an 86 was a little bit of a surprise. Still a great score, and the game looks awesome to me.

We all know already it’s Rebirth
Rebirth isn't the guarantee that it used to be. Especially after Astro Bot. It could lose out to recency bias alone. It's definitely going to be a tight race though, and it'll be interesting to see how Metaphor, Zelda, and Dragon Age turn out with their reviews.

Great video! I was worried you would just look at the past and predict the launch games based on that - but instead, you examined the past and pointed out that Nintendo has likely learned from their previous launches, while also considering the current situation. I'm hoping for some kind of DK game to go along with the new Mario movie and the DK attractions opening at Nintendo World around the globe!

What’s your favorite Nintendo launch game of all time?
It’s got to be either Super Mario World or Super Mario 64 for me. Both launching during my childhood, they both had such a big impact on why I fell in love with video games in the first place.

Metaphor is not gonna be goty. Replace it with wukong
Right now, I don't think that Metaphor will win GOTY either, but I do believe that it'll be in the conversation. Based off of WuKong's ratings, I don't think that it'll be in the conversation. It'll prob be a lot of gamers GOTY, but not the media or The Game Awards.
All the people saying Black Myth Wukong really pretending like it isn't just a solid 7/10
Black Myth Wukong is a really cool looking game. It seems like that game where if it resonates with you, it really resonates with you. So I can see why some really love it. I just don’t know if it’ll be in the GOTY conversation. Best action game, yeah, but I don’t know about GOTY.

I think that Black Myth Wukong is like this years Hogwarts. A really popular game, that a lot of people love, but it’s not going to really be in that GOTY conversation. At least not at The Game Awards.
@@JustKeepPlaying-b8e if any game deserves recognition, it's Black Myth Wukong. Heck, it sold 3 million copies in a week.

black myth wukong ?
Black Myth Wukong is a cool game, but with it sitting at a 81 for PC and 75 for PS5 on metacritic, I don’t see it being in the GOTY conversation like that.

@kotaku46 I enjoyed Black Myth Wukong but I would only rate that game an 85-87. It stands at the knees of Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok which that game really tries to micmic
I’ve already pre-ordered Echos of Wisdom and I’m really excited to play it. I’m also really excited for the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake; apparently my dad really wanted to play the original when he was younger, but wasn’t able to. I’m going to get him the remake for Christmas so that we can play it together.

@@JustKeepPlaying-b8e I spent most Christmases growing up playing video games with my dad and younger sister. My dad would buy us the newest Skylanders or Little Big Planet and we’d spend the entirety of Christmas break playing it together. My dad is the main reason I play video games today. We always had a console in the house for as long as I can remember. First our Wii, then our ps3, our ps4, and now my switch and n64. Me and my dad spend most of our weekends these days playing Mario kart or watching me play an assortment of Zelda games.

Astrobot and zelda echoes of wisdom as a candidate for game of the year just shows how sad this year has been for gaming... Dont get me wrong, i am hyped for those, but they are probably the worse candidates for game of the year in the gaming history.
I definitely don't see Astro Bot and Echoes of Wisdom as terrible candidates for GOTY. I don't think that GOTY needs to be some big cinematic type of game. A AAA level platformer the quality of Mario is for sure a worthy candidate, and if this Zelda rates in the high 80's to 90's, I think that it would def be a worthy contender too. This year hasn't been filled with as many 90+ rated games as last year, but I don't think this has been a sad year at all. Slower, yeah, but not sad.

This is by far the worst Xeno game. It’s not even the best switch rpg. This game is a generic disgrace.
I definitely don't agree that it's a generic disgrace, or the worst Xeno. I don't think there's a such thing as a worst Xeno. But which one is your favorite, and what do you think is the best RPG on Switch?
@@JustKeepPlaying-b8e Xenogears it’s the only one with a good story followed by the Chronicles X. Sadly the localization butchered the laters script and the former’s second half was rushed. Regardless they are still the best. While we are at it I’m giving Xenosaga ep 3 an honorary mention. While Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is tone down multiverse none sense that butchered XB2’s story. Best switch RPG is a toss up between SMTVV or Unicorn Overlord. SMTIII, P5, P3, P4 are also honorable mentions but those are older games and it wouldn’t be fair to include them.
@@ironrex6979 while I don’t agree that Xeno 3 didn’t have a good story, I’m definitely wanting to play through Xenogears one of these days. A remaster of that would be awesome. And yeah, Unicorn Overlord and SMTV are both awesome games.
Man, I'm finally putting my foot on the floor playing through the trilogy now. I've always loved the first on the Wii, and am now on the Future connected expansion after finishing up on 1. I've tried 2 times to get into 2. I heard it gets great, eventually, but I just can't like that gatcha system, man. I'll just have to push through, as they say to get to the good stuff! Part 3 just looks all around amazing, and I can't wait to get to it! :)
It's truly such a great trilogy. I hope that you're able to get into XC2. Third times the charm right! And then you have so much goodness awaiting you once you get to XC3! Really hope you enjoy the ride this series will take you on.

XC2 is awesome! Once the combat clicks, it’s amazing, it has the best soundtrack of the trilogy, and the best villains. But I think that XC3 is the overall better product, the easiest one to get into, and the Future Redeemed expansion just takes it to another level to me. But on the real, all three games are 🔥
Yeah, I knew about xc1 during project rainfall and even got the og wii disc and booklet. Sold it like a dumbass. I do have the limited edition for xc1 de though. Wish I had 2 and 3 limited editions. 3 was so bad I didn’t even know it went on sale and it sold out on the same day. Cant wait for monolith soft next game in the series.
I definitely remember project rainfall, but the game I got from that was, The Last Story. I def feel your pain from selling your Wii original, but that’s cool that you got the XC1 DE limited edition. I wish I could’ve gotten that for 1 & 2. Thankfully I did manage to get the one for XC3. And yeah, big same, I’m so excited to see what Monolith Soft comes up with next!
One of my best video game experiences of all time. It's not perfect, i was slightly disappointed about the ending and maybe with some mechanics. That being said, this game also proves how good XC1 & 2 are. As someone who started the series with Xeno 3, i still really enjoyed the two first games. I wish i could play Xenogear, Monolith Soft have gotten me fond of their stuff.
It’s one of the best I’ve experienced too! What made you start with Xeno 3? That’s cool that you were able to go back, and enjoy 1&2. I love both of those too. Being able to play Xenogears on modern systems would be awesome! Monolith Soft are awesome. One of the best out there!
@@JustKeepPlaying-b8e I started with XC 3 because it was the easiest to find in France. I didn't know what to expect, so I preferred to wait before struggling to get the other two :D In definitely don't regret it, and i still have Torna and Future Redeemed waiting for me !

i tried playing the games. i love the setting. story and everything that builds up to be an epic experience. then i get into the gameplay... and its a completely different story. a complete 180 for me. its so slow. so limiting. so boring. i dont get that feeling thats makes me feel like im doing something. i tried to play it just for the story, but the gameplay just made it unenjoyble. truly.
im an rpg gamer at my core. i tried to get into it. the gameplay felt like a chore/ snooze fest. this was the first time playing a jrpg like this . its just so different in the worst ways.
That's a bummer that the gameplay didn't click with you like that. I love the setting, story, and characters in the game so much, but it's the combat for me that brought it all together. What exactly was it about the gameplay that you didn't like?
@@JustKeepPlaying-b8e mostly how sitting there waiting for autos to end battles. it felt like i wasnt doing anything. completely different from the action scenes that portray the game to be. it just exacerbated how repetitive battles got. i wasnt engaged at all

A link to the past is my favorite game of all-time. It changed my gaming life. No doubt that Ocarina to me is the greatest game of all-time.

@@attackthebacklog yeah man for sure. I got breath of the wild, and thought it looked great but I need dungeons with bosses.
2 will always be my personal favorite of the franchise and probably will always be my favorite game of all time, but 3 is almost just as good, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me break down in tears multiple times, 2 just hit me a lot harder on an emotional level and had a lot more satisfying gameplay for me, Xenoblade Chronicles all around is just a pure 10/10 series, and I can't wait to see what's to come for it in the future.
I can understand that. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is amazing, and it's combat is so satisfying once you really figure it out. I do prefer how 3 did the hero system to 2's blade system though. But 2 is awesome, and its OST is still the overall best to me. Definitely wholeheartedly agree that the Xenoblade Chronicles series as a whole is a 10/10, and I'm so excited to see what Monolith has in store for us in the future!

I LOVE THIS GAME! Xenoblade Chronicles used to be niche, but this game left its damn mark! I'm so proud of how far these games have come since Xenogears. The Xeno series will forever be in my heart as one of, if not, the greatest set of fiction I'll ever experience.
It’s for sure left its mark, and I’m really happy to see how the series has grown. Here’s to hoping that it continues to grow and grow. The Xeno trilogy just might be my favorite trilogy of all time. It’s definitely up there. Thank you for the comment, and for sharing the Xeno love!
