Just on Poch, let's remember, Chelsea went on a 3 month search and interview process before settling on Poch. I think Poch did something like 3 interviews. I find it hard to believe that throughout all of that there was still a misunderstanding about the kind of influence Poch wanted and the kind of dynamic Poch thought he was walking into. I think something else happened behind the closed doors. All this stuff that's coming out makes zero sense.
I find it very simple. He said constantly throughout the season that he collaborated with the SDs on squad profiling in regards to transfers. This just happened to be the perfect chance for him to get out while his reputation isn’t in the pits anymore, so he made the situation untenable by asking for more control from a position he had no right to. His side brief that the SDs are control freaks. Chaos ensues. It’s the same with Mount, the SDs are their scapegoats, when in reality, him and Poch knew their stocks. They knew it was only downhill for themselves and ran.
I feel like there’s a lot of progressive attacking young coaches but not many defensive style coaches. We’re seeing a lot of Pep-like styles but where’s the young coaches who are trying to be the next Mourinho/Simeone/Allegri etc.
Football has moved on from the conter attacking, reactive type football. Pep and his disciples have solidified their systems against counter attacks. The best counter attacking teams these days create their own counter attacking situations by either baiting the opponent to press and playing through it (De Zerbi, Alonso) or by gegen pressing (Klopp, Slott) or by what Ten Hag used to do at Ajax.
