Shame also makes people kill each other - take a look at honour killings, etc…

Does age 73 classify as an adult? I'm far from offended, in fact I love this. I have to say that I loved your history of the C word. Keep sharing great podcasts.

Thank you for this. I really hope the science peeps don't get AI sophisticated with emotion because it's insidious. And since it's not sophisticated with emotion and yet people will base their decisions (I'm thinking of court room kinds of decisions) on what AI finds, that is a huge problem as well because people think AI is unbiased and equals truth, and it really doesn't.

Over-rating shame in Japan, especially in the staying late in the office, aren't we? You would be hard pressed to differentiate between shame and guilt here or anywhere else. We've gone way beyond Ruth Benedict. People who (still) stay late in the office tend to do so because leaving before the boss can cause career problems and effect promotions. How do I know? I have lived and worked in Japan for a Japanese company for over 24 years and have asked actual Japanese working in offices.

I found him repulsive after learning of his leftist leanings. Would have been so much more interesting to hear him talk about "climate change" from a past perspective rather than a future one.

Sorry, you lost me when you chose to use this platform as a political statement. Ciao.

Sex and discussion of sex is inherently political. That’s her field. The history of ANYTHING is political. Including the history of sex, which is as I said before, her field.

@@jerrylyns7331 I just was going to write that I didn't find anything very political in this discussion - one COULD politisize it, if one wanted to, for there are always access points to attach it to your preferred ideological Construct, negative or positive - but basically it is not political

@@ErnestoBrausewind thanks for trying to correct my point but adding nothing? Everything is politicized, so everything is political. There’s almost no point to the word. Kind of like “physical”, what ISNT physical? So what’s the point of the word?
I don’t see what the point of you adding your two cents was.
