- Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Renowned Director, Producer, Screenwriter & Author, Fred Olen Ray
About Harvey's guest:
Today’s guest, Fred Olen Ray, is a renowned director, producer, screenwriter and author whose body of work includes over 200 feature films in many genres including horror, sci-fi, action-adventure, erotic thrillers, crime dramas, rom-coms and holiday films.
Some of his most popular movies are “Scalps”, “The Tomb”, “Terminal Force”, “Beverly Hills Vamp”, “Haunting Fear”, “Evil Toons”, “The Shooter”, “Deadly Shores”, “Stage Fright”, to name only a few. And I have to mention the brilliant short film, “Spidora”, for which he won FOUR prestigious film festival awards.
He’s worked with everyone from Buster Crabbe, Roddy McDowall, Cliff Robertson, John and David Carradine and Martin Landau, to Chevy Chase, George Hamilton, Peter Fonda, Stella Stevens, Troy Donahue, Russ Tamblyn, Steven Segal and many more. Our guest has also produced and directed dozens of Christmas movies including some of my favourites, “A Prince for Christmas”, “A Christmas in Vermont”, “One Fine Christmas”, and “A Royal Christmas Holiday”.
On television, he produced “Dante’s Cove”, he wrote, produced and directed 28 episodes of “The Lair”, and he won an Emmy award and received 2 more Emmy nominations for his work on “The Bay”.
In addition, our guest has written 5 books: “Grind Show: Weirdness as Entertainment”, “The New Poverty Row: Independent Filmmakers as Distributors”, “Writing the Perfect Christmas TV Movie”, “Deep Red”, and his latest release, a fascinating, uninhibited and insightful memoir entitled “Hell-Bent for Hollywood: A Director’s Journey”, in which he takes us on his colorful and sometimes turbulent journey from fringe, low-budget filmmaking to a long-running, successful career as a highly respected writer, producer and director.

Great interview, Fred Olen Ray had some great stories
He sure did. His book is full of great stories and life lessons
this was an amazing interview and Fred Olen Ray is a surprise to interview but he’s told some fascinating stories about his career in the biz which delights me to hear every one that he tells! 😊
Why was he a surprise? Wasn’t he worthy of being included in our show?
of course he was worthy of being on the show I didn’t mean surprised in a bad way I meant in a good way ofc!
Oh that’s a relief! Thank you. I hope our show can keep surprising you in a good way!🙏❤️
Amazing, the stories that your guests share. Harvey you have a way !
He and I were alike with the wrestling and football, just add travel hockey to my list 😊 a true Canadian here.
Another banger here Harvey, absolutely award winning skills ! Fantastic 🤩
Thank you so much for watching this interview with a true original
Had a blast listening to the chat and did not know of Marion Ross replacing Shirley Jones (but still having to wear a wig) for the popular ´Perfect Christmas List´.
That was a fun story which caught me by surprise because it wasn’t in his book
Inner Sanctum is still one of my favorite guilty pleasure films. It was huge during the Blockbuster Video era. They had two versions, the R and Unrated version. I was really hoping he'd go into working with Tanya Roberts. Around that time, Star magazine wrote a rather scathing behind the scenes story of Tanya being too drunk or high to function on some days.
Thanks for watching
i never expected Fred
Interesting. Why?
What did you think of the interview?
