      Молчат Дома is doomer?
      I always just danced to it like mr. roboto while grinning while skoop dap be bap bip etcetera.
      No wonder such people get irritated by me as I don't see anything serious in the music rather then something t bop to while I getting inebriated.
      Find it amusing they call me a boomer when born mid 90's just because I'm not a miserable self-defeatist.

      It's all perspective & people are miserable as they set their hopes to high & don't keep them realistic in the short term.
      Have a grand goal or 2 but set more reasonable goal posts in your week to week & day to day.
      A day I don't have to deal with other people problems is a great day which I enjoy!

I think original shoegaze is a lot less hopeless than what's been made more recently, but I see optimism even in the more depressing songs (Alison, Dreams Burn Down, Sometimes etc) like how The Smiths wasn't all hopeless either. Maybe it's just because my mental health ain't that bad but I really don't see it.

      @@CamreeyanWhat makes you think they find it depressing?
      The premise of the question is silly: Why would someone who is depressed, or otherwise in a low mood (or a good mood), purposefully choose to listen to depressing music. Or rather music that depresses them further.
      Shoegaze may be melancholic, but there is the concept that if you're depressed enough, nihilism itself can become a warm blanket, a source of great comfort. And even if you're not depressed at all, there is a lot to find enjoyment in, because a genre like shoegaze is arguably far more than just the sounds you hear. It's the concept, the experimentation, the search for originality, art in the form of noise, and what other pretentiousness you can potentially squeeze out of it.
      Blackgaze is better for "depressing" you could say, but it depends on how you take to it. I find a lot of enjoyment and positive vibes in the high pitched screaming, relentless drums and soaring guitars and all the lovely space and dynamics typical of post genres, but others may just get a headache and feel depressed by it.
      It's an issue of perspective i guess.

  • @andrew6778
    @andrew6778 2 месяца назад +16

    The Smiths may have had alot of tongue-in-cheek commentary on certain issues in their music, but the way Morrissey managed to weave his lyrics together accompanied by Jonnhy Marr's guitar playing that can feel upbeat but strangely somber at the same time gave me a certain connection to the music, making it feel more like music that had a "cry for help" type feel but buried under layers of humouristic, almost sarcastic cynicism. Also this type of expression I feel is very much related to certain memes and wojaks, where a message that can be relatable is made but buried under layers of sarcasm and irony to give it a touch of humour

      @@trevor245 That's a bit more serious than expected to be honest with you, Trevor. I expected a far more light hearted "haha, they're uber introverts!" Or something. Not a psychological discussion.
      But hey, I'm cool with that. If someone is too introverted to even socialise online, that is beyond introversion and speaks more to an extreme degree of social anxiety, which they certainly need help to overcome. Introversion isn't social anxiety, it is far from a mental illness and simply a character trait (that some on social media have arguably taken to an extreme with their silly but amusing memes), although I can understand why and how it can be mistaken for anxiety.
      To answer your question: If they don't get help, what you can do for them is stop bothering them and accept it. Or, and forgive me if it sounds irrational, you can eschew a few ideals of autonomy and ensure that they get the help needed by having a doctor, or whatever, go to them as a means to open the door for them to getting that help. If they have extreme social anxiety, the act of using the phone is extremely difficult, going out is extremely difficult, and the help they need is through both those hurdles. If they can't jump them, what is so wrong about initially removing those hurdles so that they can run the track and get comfortable with the track itself before you add those hurdles back?
      Think of it as like, going outside during the day is an issue due to the larger number of people. If we can say it's the people, and not the being outside itself that is the cause of anxiety, then why not have them join you outside at a time when there are far fewer people. I assume it'll help them reacclimate to being outside in general, and then they can develop solutions to help them when they're outside among greater numbers, such as pathing that avoids bumping into others, allows them a direct route to their destination that they can travel without thought, that gives them the energy to perform whatever exercises they need to keep themselves calm as they travel to the doctor or whatever. It isn't a permanent solution, but it can get them started to feeling comfortable again.
      Of course, if you're in the US, it will risk bankrupting you as the one attempting to help, so there appears to be little benefit to you in helping another in that way. It also risks bankrupting them, which could be a reason for their reluctance. We don't have that excuse in the UK, instead we fall back to "Well, you gotta face your fears at some point.", and that is something I fully agree with, but pay attention to the words "At some point.". Do you understand what I mean?
      I'm not saying you do it all for them, I'm suggesting that you open the door and hopefully they will walk through it. If they don't, just weigh up your time and compassion you have available for that individual against your own life, if it hits a negative, leave them to it. If not, good luck in helping them. Is that unreasonable?

    My ex-bandmate was very much a fan of this music, he called it 'sad-boi' music. Artists like Elliott Smith, Radiohead and Weezer dominated his taste. Along with many, many, many metal and prog bands which was possibly partly to ignore his descent into doomer music.
    He supposedly instigated me being kicked out of the band, I don't think the band even exists anymore. He's gone full goth now.

      Just call it blackened emo. You really don't need that much edge in your genre, you'll risk cutting a wrist on it.
      It's strangely enjoyable from what I've heard, the one I heard had a painting of a guy with a hammer and a tenderised hand, which was interesting. Left me feeling a bit empty, but music is supposed to make you feel something and when you've felt nothing for days, even the sensation of emptiness becomes a reason to smile. You actually get to feel human again. It's the little things that you learn to appreciate when depression has you in its grasp, and it's always annoying when in appreciating the small things you are told "See, you're not depressed, you're laughing and smiling!". Like yeah, great, I'm bloody cured after five seconds of laughter and a smile, given the choice between laughing or crying, which would you choose.

    Just a point:
    people born in the mid to late 90s weren't raised on the Internet, at least not in the sense of people born afterwords. Our summers were 95% outside. The Internet was just one of many different mediums of entertainment, TV still being king. And phones weren't "smart".
    Good video.

    • @djinnxx7050
      @djinnxx7050 2 месяца назад

      I remember those early days, felt like a somewhat middle class thing to have an internet connection in your house, "upper" working class you could say (where i live at least). For me it was something I occasionally witnessed and used at a friend's house, like "those are actual people you're talking to? From the other side of the world?!". First thing I ever typed to a stranger online was an insult, it's an easy way to find out if they're actually human or not. Wasn't until I got my first "smart phone" that I had regular access at a reasonable standard, and I've regretted it ever since. Sometimes it just isn't worth drawing back the curtain.
