Thank you for your silly yet logical teaching of colors. Having the focus color in the middle and on each side a different shade or tone, has really helped me to grasp the variations of "tones". I've learned, ( relearning), so much. I also am thankful for your pop-ups with definitions or examples of the moment 's color theory. I apologize for any grammatical errors, I'm still relearning everything since a horrific car accident I was in a few years ago. Have a wonderful day.
Thanks! I know the feeling, because I found it frustrating myself. Until I learned the logic behind all of this. There are two things needed: a basic understanding of color mixing and (at least equally important) training observation. As soon as you better know what you see, it's way easier to get to that color. And luckily these are things most of us can easily train and it's fun as well! 👍
Toon, thank you! I am learning so much from your colour mixing videos. My question is this: is it the case that one can mix every colour with the primaries cyan, magenta and yellow?
Yes, but with a caveat: in theory you can mix all colors with these primaries and when mixed together you would get black. However: pigments (the color particles in the paints) are not as perfect as the theory. Every pigment has it's own characteristics. So there are cases that you get closer to the result you want by buying a specific pigment. For instance, you can mix great looking reds with yellow and magenta, but due to the characteristics of these two pigments it will be a rather transparant mixture. If you need an opaque red, it's easier to use a red color that contains an opaque pigment. But all in all, the main takeaway is: if you understand the principles of primary yellow, magenta and cyan, then you can understand how all color mixing works. Then you understand that with ultramarine blue + yellow you can never get a high chroma green, because ultramarine has a bias towards purple thus containing (theoretically) magenta, so when mixed with yellow you mix 3 primairies which results in a desaturated color. So, it's very beneficial to at least understand these fundamentals. Sorry, lot of text, but that's because when I finally learned this I finally was able to mix every color I wanted, so I really hope to help others with this as well. 😂 Here's a video on the primaries: ruclips.net/video/SSCAhRFwsa8/видео.html
😂luckily there are other ways to darken yellow. But I have to say that a muted and/or darkened color out of context often look 'ugly'. The same color can look completely normal when seen in context of the surrounding colors.👍🎨
Getting the right colour can be so difficult and frustrating, but your clear guidance helps me a lot!
Very much appreciated, Toon!
That’s great!👏🏻👍

You're welcome, I'm glad it was helpful. I wish you a good recovery and enjoy painting! 🎨❤
Thank you! I agree with the person just below my comment....."difficult and frustrating"...you are a good teacher!

You make it so easy, thank you
Thanks for this! Colour mixing is my nemesis
You're welcome!👍
Wow I like the way your easily teach the color mix…. Thanks a lot.
My pleasure, I’m glad it was helpful👍

@ Thank you so much for your fulsome reply! You are such a generous teacher 😊
I'd intuitively say that getting darker warmer yellows would be by mixing it with burnt umber, which is something we might have.
Yes of course, that's also a great one! 👍👍
I don't like colours mixed with black, especially yellow.

@@toon-nagtegaal I watched a few of your other videos. I liked that you pointed out and demonstrated is more than one way to get a colour.
WONDERFUL explanation! Understanding which colors are warm or cool really helps too.
Thanks, and you're right, that's a good way to look at colors as well!👍
