A look at the oil-filled mechanical watch from Belgian watchmaker Ressence. A huge thanks to Exquisite Timepieces for loaning me this watch. www.exquisitet...
Absolutely can tell how the oil affects the legibility. I thought this was some new fancy smartwatch I'd never seen in the thumbnail based on how the "display" looked.
I had put this watch waaaaaaaay to the back of my mind, and forgot about it. Thanks for making me remember how much I want this watch, and for bringing this torture back to the front of my mind, for not having one.
I haven't seen a video from you before, but already I'm in a love, hate relationship. I love you for showing me this watch and giving me a new perspective on watches in general. But on the other hand... I hate you for showing me this watch, because I don't think I can find any other watch design more beautiful than this. Thank you
When you said unique watches, I said to myself, "Wonder if he knows mb&f and I checked your past videos, and sure enough, I understood you did .I'm a subscriber now. I'm looking forward to more unique watches from you
My mind=BLOWN. This is as weird as any weird alien tech from scifi one can think of. I know that sentence makes no sense, but my mind is on a different plane having watched this. Holly krap. This is absolutely fascinating. Thank you for sharing!!!!
If you did videos on something as boring as say 'towel racks', I would still watch those because your videos are that good and entertaining. Terrific indeed.
I've seen one in person and while it's amazing piece of machine and art from 1m away it looks like digital smartwatch. Still I wish I could afford one.
I’ve loved this watch for years, defiantly a worthy grail. The most expensive watch in my collection is £3,500 so its not going to be happening anytime soon but its the thought that counts right…….. actually my whole collect is worth £12,000 so that wouldn’t do it either. Not a particularly big fan of the other Ressence models though as they don’t show off the oil-filled wonderment but who cares when this exists!
Love the eyeball oil splash comment! I learned about these the exact same way you did and have been obsessed since. Would appreciate if they were to produce a more affordable 'common man' version. Surely they could do this for bet 3-8k, but that may just be dreaming and I'm not a magnet doctor.
I'm scared of owning any watch where the glass is higher then the bevel. I know I will scratch it the first day I wear it. With that said.... This has been added to my dream watch list!
Me, a person who lacks the knowledge of time pieces: Damn. That’s a nice watch. That’s my type of watch. If I were to have one, that’s the one. Link in the bio? Say less. *clicks on the link* Matter fact, don’t even mention. I’m poor.
Can I get the oil changed at my local Jiffy Lube when I get my car done? ;-) Geez and I thought re-aligning the Chrono hands were bad enough on my Chronographs! I would be worried about banging that into a door frame, I wonder how fragile the glass is
I love this watch! But like most getting one is nothing short of a miracle, however there is a way to get something like it on a budget, there is a version of the watch face on a certain watch face app site & if installed on a google pixel with a steel body, hey presto you got yourself one? Just a thought, great video by the way, loved the tear down, as I often wondered how they did this.
This might be sacrilege, but with the shape and design of it, you could have convinced me it was a pixel watch. It's got a very similar domed structure, and because of the effect of the oil, it definitely looks like it could be digital.. it would be interesting to see a ressence watch face for the pixel watch 😅
I think they are a very cool watch, I have seen them in at my local dealer and when they ask if I want to try one one, I always say “I don’t lead the lifestyle to wear that watch”
This design just rewrote the laws of time and fashion. It's like wearing a piece of the cosmos on your wrist, while giving Einstein a run for his money 👏
Another video of yours that I watched without any interest in the subject. I learned about this brand some time ago and knew all the tech details. I appreciate them for innovating, its just in the wrong direction for me. Me if I already had a couple dozen very expensive more conventional watches I really liked, I would go this eccentric for a change. But that's probably never gonna happen.
Since this is a 2D display - much like a smartwatch - I think the question has to be how long until the novelty wears off. There is no depth, no exotic materials, just a surface-level means of communicating data. You know this to be true because you buy mechanical watches and not just digital ones, such as the G-Shocks. I know enough about myself and my experiences that this watch’s honeymoon for me would be about 5 days.
Just out of interest, it must be hard work for the movement to push those discs around in the oil, with the magnetic coupling. How long is the power reserve?
Very cool enthusiast piece! If I had $40k would i buy this or rolex? unfortunately my poor ass would have definitely bought a rolex for the reliable value retention. Thanks for sharing this piece else i would have never come across it.
There's one watch manufacturer beside Ressence that has this oiled filled feature the italian company called U-Boat makes watches like that less expensive then the ressence tho still pretty expensive and funny enough its only rated for 50m under water which is halarious considering the name of the brand.
Now heres the thing imagine if a smartwatch implements the oil paralex view , if would be crazy , I've seen apple watches have a somewhat effect , but it doesnt have a perfect angular display like this, it would be a game changer.
The type of work I do let's me afford this watch, having the time to wear it different story, and after you explaining how to set makes it seem frustrating to me. So I stick with my various Galaxy watches for simplicity. Also size wise when I have the time to wear them I prefer my Grand Arsenal, Big Daddy, and Grand Daddy watches.
Don't they mainly fill dive watches (and dive computers) with oil so you don't have a pressure difference at depth and you can theoretically go to any depth with them? Legibility is a happy side effect. :)
Absolutely can tell how the oil affects the legibility. I thought this was some new fancy smartwatch I'd never seen in the thumbnail based on how the "display" looked.
The first time I saw this watch I honestly thought it was a digital. Crazy looking watch I love it.
I had put this watch waaaaaaaay to the back of my mind, and forgot about it. Thanks for making me remember how much I want this watch, and for bringing this torture back to the front of my mind, for not having one.
An oil based watch eh. Pretty slick
If that was a pun you are most welcome here, fellow seeker.
“The physics that affect poor people” had me on the ground! 😂 It’s funny because it’s true😢
I’m afraid so
I agree....great line. One which I plan to adopt.
Physics eventually caught up with Stockton Rush.
@@JinKee Indeed.
That’s a cool one, now if I could only find my wallet somewhere 😝
Must say this jumped on the top of my list as soon as I learned about this watch. Absolutely amazing.
This is the first time I’m hearing about this watch and now I want it
I feel your pain.
Big fan of Ressence. Glad to see them on your channel.
I remember when these first came out many years ago. I forgot about them. Now I’ve been reminded again about a watch I need to forget about again.
One of my favorite new watch makers on the market. I will stick to my traditional times pieces but love what they are doing!
This is art. You buy one and put it up for display at walk-in garage gallery.
It’s too cool to be true! Though I might never buy it, I appreciate the bold idea the designers dare to try and the outcome… amazing!
I love the Ressence. ❤ The oil filled version is the best! Sadly so expensive.
I swear I had this watchface downloaded for my Amazfit GTR 3
@@eustab.anas-mann9510Chile we believe in u u don’t have to swear
I remember seeing this watch in a magazine. I believe it was in the early to mid 2000's. Always loved the design of this watch.
I was thinking of this watch and where I saw it. I believe it was in a magazine while flying in a commercial airplane.
First I've heard of this company. This watch is absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing.
Benoît Mintiens made such a graphical watch, and despite being so different, as you say, it's incredibly easy to read. I love it.
Great review and really appreciate the sense of humor that went with it.
Back in the day. I made a ressence face for my moto360. That was a nice moment for me. The design is as livable as it is cool looking.
I haven't seen a video from you before, but already I'm in a love, hate relationship.
I love you for showing me this watch and giving me a new perspective on watches in general.
But on the other hand...
I hate you for showing me this watch, because I don't think I can find any other watch design more beautiful than this.
Thank you
Thank you for the Caddy Shack reference. Subtle gold.
The way it looked I actually assumed this was a smart watch of some sort. That is an amazing time piece!
Nothing beats an upload from you. Cheers.
Ever since you introduced me to these watches, I've been in love. Thank God I can't afford it.....yet.
Such an interesting watch. Thank you for the video!
this is CRAZY. not the Price. But the Mechanism put into it
When you said unique watches, I said to myself, "Wonder if he knows mb&f and I checked your past videos, and sure enough, I understood you did .I'm a subscriber now. I'm looking forward to more unique watches from you
Welcome
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Wow. Just, wow. I’ll take one, just as soon as I win the lottery.
i am confused about how it works and reading the time but fascinated at the same time.
That is a beautiful watch. Brilliant art.
the most innovative / underrated watch brand
My mind=BLOWN. This is as weird as any weird alien tech from scifi one can think of. I know that sentence makes no sense, but my mind is on a different plane having watched this. Holly krap. This is absolutely fascinating. Thank you for sharing!!!!
A great video i love these, also another grail outside my budget !
If you did videos on something as boring as say 'towel racks', I would still watch those because your videos are that good and entertaining. Terrific indeed.
Looks like a smartwatch at a glance, but at the same time, the watch nerds will be amazed by the crazy mechanism
Perfectly balanced I guess
Yeah, it sure looks like a smartwatch. It is in fact, the design the pixel watch was built on
I've seen one in person and while it's amazing piece of machine and art from 1m away it looks like digital smartwatch. Still I wish I could afford one.
A watch that has the attention of the entire community and the attainability of less than 1% of it.
Winning stats for a lifetime collectible.
Amazing! Now I know where google their inspiration for the Pixel watch.

I love it , the only thing I don't like about it, is the fact that it looks like a smart watch.

It really seems like this watch...Ressence-nated with you.
I'll show my way out, thank you.
No, stay a while.
Wow! Fantastic watch!
Thanks for sharing.
Always loved this watch!
I have always loved these.
I'm scared of owning any watch where the glass is higher then the bevel. I know I will scratch it the first day I wear it. With that said.... This has been added to my dream watch list!
Wow! I am genuinely impressed!
What a terrific video. Watched the whole thing.

Love Ressence - I want the type 3 BBB and the white version.
Grandma and grandpa’s will money us gonna be spent on this 🔥🔥🔥

5mns ago i didn't know i needed this in my life😅
I just love this watches

This is what I call creativity!
What a great video! Thank you! "Magnets, how do they work?" 😂
great review!

"Water, fire, air, dirt...magnets, how do they work?"
Absolutely f@#$king amazing 😮
If it was only $30, I wouldn't buy it. But at over $40,000, it makes me want one and also makes me sad for humanity
nice 7" wrist ;) great video man

just started watching the video and fell in love on first sight and decided i need to have this watch then saw the prices and decided i maybe don't.
Fascinating.

Ah just googled.. 36 hours.. impressive.
i love this brand
I have the watch, a must for a watch winder, but I use a jeweler’s ball to set it otherwise it is a nightmare with bare fingers
I got one - and they are more fantastic than the videos show. I tell everyone its a swatch.

Sinn have had oil-filled watches for years too.
I need one. I’ve been doing pretty well these past years. Thought: how bad could it be?
Looked on website…. 😅😅😅😅
Indeed
My grail watch too brotha!! I just want to see one in person and possible try it on…acquiring one at $43k isn’t in the card but I can 🤤
I remember when I first saw an AMOLED display in a phone! This gives me the same feeling.
