That insulation is from factory, it looks like your van is a converter caravelle, these trims are also factory fitted.
The gaffer tape was covering the intake for the rear hot air blower.
If you remove the rear blower you will either have to change the glass or blank off the vents that feed behind the glass and into the blower. There is 2 blowers in the rear, one for hot which is in the middle of the van and the cold air is the one in the back, if that’s any help to you

This is amazing... Thank you @TwiggsT4... So to blank off the vents, do you think I can seal them off simply from the inside? Expanding foam or something?
Sounds like I really need you to stick around.... Please 🙏
If we ever do merch, you'll be the first to get a free t-shirt lol.

@@DeliciouslyBruno the plastic external vent will be very brittle and extremely easy to crack, access to nuts on inside behind top part of the blower, use a quality sealer or panel bond to seal any cracks on the inside of the plastic. Stick some plastic on the inside, make sure it’s sealed with a high bead of panel bond/tiger seal, also once it’s stuck on it won’t come off again

      @@TwiggsT4 that’s really useful.
I’m contemplating replacing the windows, so wondering if we changed the windows that would no longer be an issue.
