Quit doing your videos in your driveway take them out to a quieter spot allways too much in the background

Yeah I know, I'll have to be more aware of that for future videos. I'm hoping to get some trail videos in the near future, as soon as temps cool down here. Would like to take the WJ out on a basic trail to further test out the lift, and we have some testing to do on the YJ as well, stay posted, and thanks for subscribing.

Also, everyone doesn't need to know where you live.

I can see why you need a good camping setup. That neighborhood is NOISY!
    Cool trailer!

I've been looking at the same 2 companies you mentioned, Bivouac and Turtle Back. I have to ask, why no fridge with the trailer?

    • @averagejoe4x4
      @averagejoe4x4  7 лет назад +3

If your asking why we personally didn't get a fridge with the trailer, we were not sure of which fridge we wanted to get with either, and the initial cost of the fridge was around $800. We figured that we would get the trailer first then after some camping trips evaluate what fridge we wanted and if we wanted one, additionally our trips generally run only 1-3 days. Once we start going over that the fridge will probably zoom to the top of the wish list.
If your wondering why the trailer didn't come with a fridge, Dave at Turtleback does not build the TB with the fridges in them, his philosophy is the fridge is better in the tow vehicle, which I feel the same about, however he does sell fridges in his showroom for the customer to add on.

Do you tow with the Max Coupler all the time, or just off road?

The Turtle and the Tiger, I use the max coupler all the time.

Oh perfect, a Jeeple with a turtle in back. Only Jeeple go slow enough off road that a turtle can keep up with them and stay right behind them. Like spotting each other off the curb!

Ehhh, I've gone fast...I've actually had to slow down for those speed bumps at the mall....

    $20,000 yeah fucking right

For what this trailer does that price isn't all that bad, especially when your looking at some RV's that start at double that price and cannot go where this can go, JMHO though.

Thanks for this video. I’ve been considering the turtleback and patriot campers. Patriot was at overland expo also, any reason why you didn’t consider them?

      Hi Ted,
So we were looking at a bunch of trailers prior to the Turtleback, in fact I really really liked the Patriot as well, a lot of nice little trick items and good design.. But what it boiled down to for me was that the Patriot was fairly new to the U.S. market and with that what if they decided to pack up their business here? How would a warranty or service item be handled? Turtleback is in my city and they have a 10 year warranty, easy choice for me.
The other was a weight issue. The Turtleback is at 1300lbs empty, and the Patriot is I believe 2300lbs, 1000lbs heavier. I plan to pull this with a gas Jeep, over rough terrain (rock crawling, such as the Rubicon/Moab etc...) The Patriot being heavier isn't an issue in Australia, they use diesel down there and a diesel engine has much more torque that a gasser. So here pulling a 2300lb trailer loaded with 500lbs + of gear up a boulder strewn trail would be like dragging a boat anchor behind you.
Overall it all depends on what your want out of a trailer, if you feel like Patriot will be in the U.S. to stay great, and what your planning to pull it with and what type of terrain you will pull it over.
Last but not least, if its a toss up over Turtleback and Patriot, I really really really would suggest that you stop into the Turtleback shop if possible. Dave will show you how they are made and that in itself is what made my final decision. Dave has thought of everything, and when something comes up that can be improved he does it.
Hope this helps, please let me know if you have any more questions, I love talking about this trailer, it is awesome.

Thank you for the detailed reply. Your logic is sound and i'll be sure to check out Turtelback in person in December when I visit Scottsdale for an expo that patriot campers will be attending. Maybe turtleback will be there too...that would be awesome. My only concern so far with Turtleback was that the kitchen is made up of wood and I'm a little worried about wood's durability in the outdoors. Hope you have many years of making awesome memories with your turtleback.

Thank you for taking the time to write a good comparison. I’m looking at the Turtleback and Patriot as well. Both are great trailers and I’m searching for all information possible.

Your opinion not mine. For the camping that I do it has been a great asset. I keep it packed with my gear, thus I don't have to unpack and store this equipment in my garage, nor do I have to pack it up every time I want to get out of town. For my purposes and many others this trailer is a perfect answer.
