    Great car! Our family started with two Nissan Leafs in 2012 after we installed solar. In 2015 bought a Chevy Volt and a MBZ E250. We learned that 80 miles on each car was not enough for a two electric car family. The Volt was my first American made car and it was awesome! The division of Chevy that makes the Volt is incredible, very solid car! We Leased a new (last year) MBZ E250 and should have the Tesla M3 soon. But don’t get me wrong and never belittle the Volt it is an awesome car! Other than the Tesla unfortunately I would not buy any other American car, sad to say. Congratulations and I know you will love your new car!

    Hi Jeremy, how do you like the ride quality on your Volt so far, particularly at highway speeds and rough city streets?

  • @carbuff81
    @carbuff81 5 лет назад

    I used to have a 2011 Chevy Volt, I loved the car too and I too drove it more often than my other cars too, not only because it was a cool car and not very common, but the fact that you know you aren't burning gas, so maybe that is why you drive it more, because you don't mind driving it because you aren't using any gas. Watching you in your video plugging it in inside of your garage, the way you have your charger mounted, I think it would be ideal for you to reverse into your garage this way your charge point is on the same side of the charger port and then when you leave the house you can just drive forward right out inside of backing up out of the garage all the way down driveway.

  • @truthmatters2020

    Agreed! I love my 2018 Volt!! I have been leasing cars for years, but that stopped leasing when my Volt's lease ended. I bought the car!. I know the car has been discontinued, so fully knowing the car is going the depreciate a lot I still bought it. Owners of this car know very well why I did it.I have spent $250 in gas in over 3 years, it is fun to drive, I got the premium so the features amazing! No regrets.

    Nissan Plus is the way to go. If you like that L mode in the Bolt the e-pedal in the leaf will blow your mind. E-pedal actually brings the car to a stop and keeps it stopped. I got to test drive a leaf and I never used the actual friction brakes once in the half hour we drove it through the city and on the highway.

    FYI the floor brake pedal (the "normal" brake) also uses regenerative braking, until you brake hard (think panic braking) or have reached a low enough speed (roughly 2-3MPH). Until then, there's no friction braking applied. Your disc brakes will last until hell freezes over in a Volt. This has always been how Volt regenerative braking has worked, before there ever even was an on-demand regen paddle.

    I still can’t believe how cheap these 2nd gen Volts have gotten on the secondhand market they really are great cars. Along with our $14500 volt we have a $5000 2012 Leaf that we mostly got for my fiancé, but I actually drive that the most while I have the volt on standby at home in case I drain my gogo juice early in the Leaf since the Leaf is lighter and more efficient around town, but doesn’t do great at 55-60 mph lol. I get by with 2 L1 chargers since they’re fast enough to where when one car is almost ready to be plugged in, the almost fully topped off so it works beautifully despite being in an EV desert.

      James, it will charge in 2 1/4 hours, if you have the optional higher rate on-board charger, and you have a 32 amp charging station.
      My '19 has that optional 7.2 kw charger.
      It takes almost 4.4 hours, with a 240 volt,16 amp power supply connected to the car.
      The ones that don't have the 7.2 kw on-board charger, take more like 4.5 hours, which isn't too bad.

      @jeremyjudkins  2 года назад

      It was really good for what it did. I had no real problems with it. Just wasn’t fully electric, didn’t have software updates, and no where as cool looking or quick. Buying a used volt is definitely a great value. I paid MSRP which was like $40k and it wasn’t a good value compared to the model 3.

    • @JosephHowes2003
      @JosephHowes2003 2 года назад +1

      @@jeremyjudkins the Tesla is much quicker so no argument there but the Volt is quick enough to be very fun. You said in the video that you don't drive much though so a Volt would be essentially full electric for you. I like the range extended EV concept more than pure EVs but wish that they'd stuck with it and gotten the EV range closer to 100 miles so you'd realistically only need gas for a true road trip.
      Personally, I think that the 2nd Gen Volt looks better than the Model 3 but of course everyone sees things differently.

  • @ShawnShaddock
    @ShawnShaddock 6 лет назад +1

    Love your videos, Chevy Volt is a great vehicle. Don't listen to the haters who for some reason can't get their head around why we wouldn't want to have to rely on the Tesla range, or even the charging stations for long trips. A couple things to consider, if your on a long trip and you get to a charging station, and it's occupied, then what? You have to wait even longer. Also the people who say the Chevy Volt is a dual drive train are wrong, it is an EV that comes with a rage extender in the form of a gasoline generator, the Voltec motor never directly powers the drive train.

    • @imho7250
      @imho7250 6 лет назад

      Shawn Shaddock, you don’t understand how the Gen 2 Voltec drivetrain works. When the ICE is running, it sends as much as it can efficiency sent directly to the wheels, depending on speed of the car. It’s not like the BMW i3 which is just a generator, which sits there doing nothing when the motor isn’t running.

    I have the identically equipped Chevy Volt except mine is Peal White. I hit 2000 miles this week and still have half of the gas tank left that I took delivery of the car with. I agree with your comments of this car. The Volt was the really the smartest choice as the Federal Government and many States are paying a good chunk of the cost. Also, insurance was exceptionally cheap. I priced the insurance without the VIN $95 per month. After I bought the car, the price of the insurance was $50 per month.

    Volt owners manual...
    Change electric drive unit fluid every 150000 miles.
    Replace engine air filter every 45000 miles
    Replace engine oil every two years or when the intelligent oil life indicator says so.
    It has three engines (two electric). I drive 85 percent of the time on pure EV. After 100000 miles the gas engine will have 15000 miles on it (almost like brand new).
    In low torque conditions only one electric motor is driving the wheels. The high voltage battery has an active liquid thermal management system. Its zippy. It has one pedal driving. The brake pads last a long time. I like it.

      I call the older Pruis cars a "previous car", because it's so dammed ugly! I just drove the new 2024 Pruis Prime, and was very disappointed in the performance! It is NOT like the Volt, because it will not stay in all-electric mode unless you don't mine the 11.2 seconds 0-60 accelleration.
      It's a sleek looking car, and a good concept, but the above reason plus the ackward dash cluster behind the tiny steering are deal-breakers for me.

    I'm glad that you're enjoying your Volt so much! I really loved mine as well, and still consider it easily the best choice among the transitional plugins. I almost never used gas when I had my 2017 Volt Premier. I usually drove it in normal mode, and using L and the paddle as you describe, I almost always got at least 60 - and sometimes well beyond 70 - miles per charge. I would go 2-3 months without using any gas at all (beyond engine maintenance mode), and the rare instances where I did use gas, I usually got between 55-65 miles per gallon. Indeed, Volts are truly great cars.

    Please explain what the sports mode with low actually does?

    • @lightsoffjimmy
      @lightsoffjimmy 6 лет назад

      (Note: "gas" pedal here means the accelerator pedal). Sport mode in the volt changes the acceleration ratio. For any given position of the gas pedal, sport mode sends more power than normal mode. When at a stoplight, I switch into sport mode if I know I need to switch lanes ahead of other cars. The same thing can be accomplished by pressing the gas pedal further / faster in normal mode. I use sport mode rarely since normal mode provides adequate acceleration. Others drive in sport mode all the time. When the car is in "drive" and you let off the gas, the car will coast. However, if it is in "low" than regenerative braking engages the instant you let off the gas. Use "D" for "drive" if you can coast a lot, since, once accelerated, the car moves along without using energy. Use "L" for "low" in regular city driving with a lot of stops and starts. Yes your foot has to stay on the accelerator and power is constantly headed to the motors, but your stops will engage regenerative breaking to recapture some of that energy, and you will soon begin to rely on that braking. In fact, you will miss it when driving in "D."

    • @sanchezable
      @sanchezable 5 лет назад

      When in low part of the pedal is used for slowing down. Do you have to push the gas more to go the same speed as drive. When I’m sport mode. It feels more like drive mode but with more regen breaking when letting off the pedal some.

    thats cool. its like having a new toy. if i bought a new car i'd probably drive the heck out of it too brand new. i watched (i forget channel) and he was drag racing with it, and the electric motor is faster than the gas motor. he was testing electric mode vs gas mode.

      The car is always propelled by an electric motor.
      That motor is either powered by the battery, or by the gas engine running the generator, which then sends electrical power to the drive motor, or a combination of the two.
      But regardless, the car is always moved by electricity.
      It has not conventional transmission.

      I have a '19 Volt Premier, and love it!
      What color is yours?
      Get the Clipper Creek HCS-40P charging station. This has a plug, on it, that you plug into a 240 volt receptacle.
      Get that one.
      There's also a variant of this, without a plug, that you hard wire.

My 2018 Volt Premier with both Driver Conference Packages. The garage said it had RPO K34 - standard cruise. No other reasoning. It was assumed on my part after reading up on the features of the 2 Gen Volt Premier with both Driver Confidence packages that Adapted Cruise was a given. I even have the Distancing button on the steering wheel. Other than that I love the car but I am just saying ..... BUYER BEWARE when buying a USED CAR.

    My two gripes with the Chevy Volt is that it does not have power seats, and that the aerodynamics of the vehicle cause negative pressure at the rear, which causes it to collect dirt / snow. This makes the backup camera useless in certain climates.

    I do not understand your argument that when you have a full EV a level 2 charger is a must... why? Seriously what difference does it make if your car has a 50 or 300 mile range if you only use 15 miles per day? If you do a long trip you can't rely on your home charger anyways you'll use an HPC on the freeway, and even if you return with a near empty battery, I doubt you'll drive enough over the next few days to completely deplete the battery, your car will probably be fully charged again in a few days.

    • @LM-ek2hb
      @LM-ek2hb 6 лет назад

      It's a federal credit off the bottom line. So if your 1040 says you owe $0.00, before applying the credit, then you will owe -$7500.00 after applying it. In other words, you will get a $7500.00 refund check. NOTE: This is while the credit is still in place and the manufacture has not reached the production numbers which start the phase out process!

    • @henryw4129
      @henryw4129 5 лет назад

    Hey, dude. The whole point of the Volt is that it switches seemlessly to gas so you don’t have to fret about how much charge is left.
    If you want to worry about how much charge is left or how long it takes to charge it, buy any electric car out there today
    PS given the way you have described your driving techniques, eg rolling stops and tailgating, may I recommend you *NEVER* drive your beautiful car in the snow, since so much weight is low and the car does not want to turn.
