  • This is a big deal for me... I've thought about it long and hard. As much as I hate to see all the cool kids buying Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X, etc, I am extremely happy with my 2018 Chevy Volt!
    Update: I bought a Tesla LOL
    In this video I go over my favorite features of the fully loaded Chevy Volt Premier with driver confidence II package. This car has a ton of tech and features, and doesn't make me regret my decision vs the Tesla.
    It doesn't drive itself, but it does have adaptive cruise control, it has lane departure warning, blind spot assist, back up camera, etc. Its the perfect car for a Tech RUclipsr like myself! I can't thank you all enough for supporting my channel throughout the years. I could not have bought this car without you all!

    Just putting it out there.. Never pay for charging battery.. Chevy dealers who sell electric cars have free charging stations.. If on road trip check chevy dealers in route or use one in ur area for free

      Who wants to sit at a dealership for four hours? Volt doesn't have DC fast charging. And my time is worth more than the $3.00 I'd save mooching the electricity. Plus dealerships are gated off when they're closed so that eliminates like half the opportunity.

      Shayne, stabilizer is unnecessary, as the fuel tank is pressurized, and the car forces you to burn the gas if the engine hasn't run in a while.

      Thanks, like Barry mentioned, the Volt was engineered with that in mind and will force you to use the fuel after a set period of time.

      May I ask about how much its costed to charge? Am I right to think that if you charge at 220V for 2 to 3 times less than you are using that much less electricity to charge so the 220V option is a win win? I also am considering a Clarity since its a bit bigger...

    It's nearly 2022 now, and there are still hard-core Volt enthusiasts, including me. We have two of them, a 2013 and a 2019 I found recently. The people who don't like Volts are those who've never driven one. They were well-designed because this was GM's first try at a mass marketed electric. They are a lot like my wife; Dependable, thrifty and low maintenance.

    Congratulations. You'll love your car. I got my Volt in early 2017, and still love it. I've driven it over 20k miles, and 96% of the miles are in EV mode. However, if I were shopping today, I'd probably lean towards the Model 3 or the Bolt EV. The more you drive in EV mode, the less you ever want to rely on a gasoline engine ever again.

    • @jeremyjudkins
      @jeremyjudkins  6 лет назад +11

      I am excited about EV only one day! The Bolt would be amazing for literally 99% of the time, but the handful of times I drive reallly far, it would make road trips a pain. I also honestly like the look of the Volt more than the Bolt, so maybe we will see some more EV only options from Chevy soon!

      you're 96% effectively using a ev already and you can get one today for 35k msrp likely less with the dumb discount model. i wouldnt be surprised at 33k. not to mention it can actually travel normally and not have to stop for hours extra on a long trip
      other than autopilot, 1-2 second better acceleration and looks the m3 wont save you anything over a volt especially when traveling

    I really cannot understand why this car isn’t selling well, with the 7kw onboard now using a lev2 charger irs fully charged in about 3 hours, it easily does 50 miles bev, more than enough for most commutes, and 45 mpg when it switches over far better than most that isn’t a hybrid or diesel , the boot isn’t a bad size and the looks are a big step over the mk1. Good choice happy trails

      I see Volts, Bolts, Teslas, i3s, Primes, and Leafs galore, with the occasional eGolf and Fiat 500e here in California. I'm really hopeful that they become popular everywhere else as well. EVs - about any EV - are _so_ nice to drive, and if charged regularly _so_ much less expensive to drive compared to ICE cars.

    Have clocked 30K with mine so far. 40 miles all electric in dead of winter. 60 miles in the summer. No decrease in range over time. Great track record for minimal incidents of battery replacement needed over Generation 1 and Gen 2 cars. Gas generator kicks in automatically whenever needed, eliminates range anxiety, gets 40 mpg, adds 350 miles to range, and costs less than $20 to fill. I literally go weeks without filling up. And, the battery recharges completely overnight for less than $1.
    Always wondered why Chevy didn't advertise it. Seems it was a technology loss-leader. Kudos to Chevy for showing how to do the technology right, even if they didn't do the marketing right.

    [Ricky] Great video! btw, your volt is 100% electric, in terms of powertrain. there are no couplings linking gas combustion to propulsion. you ONLY have an electric motor driving your wheels :) this is why you love the 0-30 times and all the performance because you get to drive an electric car. This is the smartest car Chevy has EVER made, because, like you said, it gives you an EV with none of the range anxiety. I love the practical real-world experience you provide!

      Actually when the Volt is on range extend mode (using gas engine) there are three modes the power split uses. Two of them have some torque from the gas engine being partially directed to the wheels.

    • @zolikoff
      @zolikoff 6 лет назад +2

      Yes, the engine can in fact couple with the wheels through one of the generators and pull the car. But... I don't see how that's considered as a negative by some people. It's clearly a positive feature.

    • @erikstephens34
      @erikstephens34 6 лет назад +5

      The Gen I Volt did not have a direct mechanical link from the engine to the wheels. The Gen II Volt DOES have a direct mechanical link from the engine to the wheels. But it's still an EREV because the electric motors are still the main traction motors. gm-volt.com/2015/02/20/gen-2-volt-transmission-operating-modes-explained/

    • @KevinReinartz
      @KevinReinartz 6 лет назад +2

      Erik Stephens the Gen 1 was also capable of sending power from the engine to the wheels. 4 modes, 1- single electric motor, 2-dual electric motor, 3- range extender as generator and single electric motor, 4- range extender as propulsion and single electric motor. These are controlled by planetary gearsets in the transaxle. If I'm not mistaken it is very similar to the gen2. I'll dig up the RUclips video that shows the modes

    Welcome to the club, Jeremy. I bought my Chevy Volt Premier 2.0 in May 2016 and love it. In the first year I went to the gas station just twice. Bought 7 gallons the first time and 8 gallons the second. In year two I drove from Southern California to the Canadian border and back. Round trip was 3000 miles and I got great mileage using gas only. I'm planning to buy a Model 3 in 2019 but will alway remember my Volt Premier. People think it's a hybrid but it is truly an electric vehicle with an ICE generator. That's why is called an EVRE (Electric Vehicle Range Extender). If you plug it in every night you'll have 50 miles of pure electric driving every morning. Good luck and enjoy.

    I replaced my 2012 Chevy Volt with a new Tesla Model 3 I’m April 2018. I loved my Volt, but the 3 is light years more advanced. I loved staying off gas. But now I’ll never stop again for gas. Your concerns about Tesla are based on negative coverage. 1, charging at Superchargers is amazingly fast. I live in Montana, with few locations. Get to the nearest location, and in 15-20 minutes you’ve added enough range to make it to the next supercharger. With the navigation system, it tells you exactly where to stop, how long to stay to get back going. No range anxiety. 2, Tesla uses mobile service. They come to you and service your car if needed. It’s a breeze.

      I waited about 30yrs to have this amazing vehicle. Couldn't be happier that wait is over. Never going back. I am going to save $2400 this year alone. Hybrids are a joke. That is like driving a car with a horse tied to it in case your car breaks. Why not put a little gas motor on your phone. Probably because you don't need to anymore. 320 mile range with 20min wait to get 80% back is just pure snack time and leg stretching. To be honest I don't even do that with this level of range. I just plug it on like my phone at night and it is always good to go. The real reason I bought this car was to stop fixing my explosion powered vehicles. Don't act like combustion engines are reliable. That is garbage and we ALL know it cuz that is what we have been dealing with our whole lives. If you don't have at least 150 miles range you can't use it effectively without gas. Chevy needs to up their mileage big time.

    • @Richard-ie1if
      @Richard-ie1if 6 лет назад

      Spiitz Travsky, so much of that is bull.....310 is 75kwh full range...which you will never get lol, that would require going sub 55 on a highway have fun with that
      even if you did you'd be wasting time, could go 75 and charge more and get anywhere quicker...
      moving on
      you might get 240-250 miles with 75kwh at 75, apparently some 80mph is the best speed to travel at in an EV
      youd then have to charge at 120kw for at least 40 minutes to get 80kw....but thats not how it works
      itll take a few minutes to start full speed as you drained your battery to 0 which you wont do in the real world...
      even if you did
      maybe 5 minutes in depending on if its hot
      youll get 100-120kw...IF the charger is even working properly and nobody is sharing with you....good luck
      then you may get 120kw to like 50% so there is 25 minutes alone
      now comes the fun part, say goodbye to 120 say hello to maybe 80-60 for the top half of your charge to 40kw for the final third to 30-20-10 for the top 20-10%
      you might get 50% charge in 25 minutes, anything else is pointless to discuss
      you're looking at a good 40 minutes in and out if you're charging the most efficient manner traveling through the middle of the US. might be able to drive faster and stop more often on east and west coasts due to more chargers, but then its a hassle so going over 80 is a wash
      if you get a good charger and dont share during the first half of your charge
      which is going to be more difficult by the day to get
      50 miles is plenty for 90% of daily driving, FACT
      thus the EV1 that everyone has a boner for still somehow
      and the generator is a generator not a motor...runs at 1 speed effectively, lasts likely forever
      barely gets used...would likely last 15+ years until the vehicles is worthless/antiquated before it had issues
      kia throws 200k mile warranties on their normal motors even.

      Sport mode sucks that battery down quick! My 5 mile drive to work could take out 15 miles of range it seems if i'm super aggresive. On the other side, my 5 mile drive also took down only 2 miles of range b/c I was driving very conservatively and breaking with the paddle behind the wheel.

      I have a Tesla and a volt , the volt wins on long distances and time efficiency I get over 100 mpg @ 500 miles on range. My Tesla 250 miles and I have to wait 1-2 hrs for a fill up that’s 4 hrs wasted waiting for a charge although Tesla has the tech and is cooler but I love my volt it’s way more reliable.

    I had my 2017 Volt for 3 years and I was extremely happy with it too. I use sports mode full time also, and still get up to 60 miles range, since 95% of the driving time I drive at normal speed. But It sure feels good to once in a while blast out of a traffic light SILENTLY, leaving the rest behind. So far nobody got offended because it was so quiet.
    After seeing your video, I will try the L mode.
    4 months ago I got a Tesla M3P, much faster and a nicer ride, but I still drive the Volt more than half the time.

    Hi Jeremy....I had a Model 3 reservation and after waiting for a year and a half, they moved my delivery from Jul-Sep'18 to ~3-5 months. My lease was expiring so I cancelled my nodel 3 reservation, and bought a 2018 Chevy Volt Premier. I'm very happy with it! My sure you use the paddle to break as much as possible !

      Thanks, I'm using "L" mode instead of "D" mode and its working great.

    • @erikstephens34
      @erikstephens34 6 лет назад

      Just as a note L vs. D is simply personal preference. You get just as much regen in D as you do in L. One advantage that GM EV's have is they use the Bosch I-Boost system for their braking. This allows them to apply regeneration braking through the brake pedal as well. So even when in D and you push on the brake pedal you will get up to the maximum regeneration available before the friction brakes are utilised. P.S. This is a much more intelligent braking system than what Tesla uses.

    • @Balabok
      @Balabok 6 лет назад +1

      In L you get as much as 15kw of regen. D is only 5kw. The paddle is about 45kw and the foot brake is about 60kw. Added benefit of 1 pedal driving while in L is like driving a manual with engine braking. I live in a hilly area and have gotten as much as 6~7 miles of additional range from about 1 mile of down hill L regen.

    • @erikstephens34
      @erikstephens34 6 лет назад

      BlofeldsCAT Those numbers are dependent on vehicle speed and load when you simply lift off the accelerator. But if you push the brake pedal you can get up to 60KW of regen in D or L or with the paddle (it doesn't matter). That's the beauty of the Volt / Bolt EV. It's always trying to apply maximum regeneration no mater how you try to slow it down. It's much different from a Tesla where the brake pedal is friction brakes only.

    Nice review. I've owned a lot of cars, all performance cars before the Volt, and my 2017 Volt is at the top of my favorites list. One thing worth mentioning: Fuel Maintenance Mode will basically force you to buy one tank of gas a year even if you are able to drive 100% electric. The computer won't let the gas get "more stale" than a year. A minor point.

  • @BrianJoyce

    Model 3 owner here. Came from an Avolon hybrid getting 44 - 47 mpg. Totally respect your decision and the Volt is a great car. There were two things that aren't 100% correct. 1st - You should be able to order a Tesla up until November 30 2018 and they will deliver before the end of the year, getting the full 7500 rebate. 2nd - on a road trip no one would charge to 100% with a super charger. It is more efficient to charge for 20 to 40 minutes. The closer you are to full the slower the charge gets. Best to make two stops for breakfast and lunch then charge at your hotel over night. Otherwise great video and great car. If your ever heading up to the Northeast we can road trip. Cheers!

    Hi Jeremy, I have a 2017 Volt, which is essentially the same as yours, including Adaptive Cruise Control.
    Some pointers:
    Your tire pressure is way too low. Set it to at least 40 PSI cold (meaning you haven't driven it for at least 3 hours) to get better mileage. The ride will be a little rougher, but it'll roll more, which will allow you to coast and use less energy. I have mine set to 42 PSI, and routinely see 65-70 miles, depending on how leaded my foot feels that day.
    The stock EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment, mistakenly referred to as "the charger") that came with the Gen 2 Volts can actually charge faster if you have a 240v outlet available. You'll need to make or buy an adapter to hook into it, but you can then charge at a faster speed. It's still slightly slower than a true 240v EVSE at around 6 hours, but that beats 13-19 hours on 110v when the battery is empty.
    There's also a setting in the options that allows you to set a home location based on GPS. What this does is any time you park your Volt in your garage, it'll default to 12 amps, so you don't have to keep selecting it. You'll have to refresh this every 90 days when it'll ask you to re-confirm the home location. Of course, if you get a 240v EVSE, then it's moot as it'll charge at 16 amps.
    Some Volt owners swear by driving in L, but I came from driving a Prius, where "coasting is king for high mpg". In other words, the less energy you use to go a certain distance, the further you can go on electric, and gas. So if you can step on the gas just enough to prevent any negative numbers showing up on the kW usage, then you can coast and save quite a bit of energy. The caveat to that is you will annoy drivers behind you, so only do this if you're the last car, or no one is right behind you. If you're not rushed for time, you'll find driving the Volt at the posted speed limits to be quite enjoyable.
    Learn to anticipate upcoming lights. Sometimes if you're lucky, just as you get to the intersection, the light may turn green. If you didn't have to completely stop, you can get back up to speed faster. But even if you're going to have to stop, coast to it first, and brake gently. Then the closer you get, the harder you press the brake. Ideally you'll come to a stop just as you hit the intersection.
    If your tires are squealing when you step on the gas from a stop, you're wasting tire tread. Instead, press the gas pedal gently at first to start moving. After a second or two when you're in motion, then go ahead and jam on the gas. It's not as fast overall, but you won't have to deal with tire squeal, and unless the guy next to you is "racing" you in a big SUV/truck or sports car, you can easily take the lead. Useful if the lanes will merge ahead and everyone else is in the lane that's not closing in anticipation for it.
    You should do some videos on apple carplay or android auto, whichever phone you have. It's kind of nice having Google maps on the center dash, and asking google questions like "where am I" or "how far away is "x-city" from here?" or "what's the weather forecast for today?" Android Auto also has Waze integration, and I heard Apple will incorporate it sometime in the fall.
    You could also do a quick video where the Volt runs out of electricity and switches over to gas, so people can see how seamless the transition is. You can also show a video of hold and mountain mode being used.
    Oh yeah, get a voltscreen while you're at it. It's a small metal grille that you place in front of the lower grille at the front of the Volt to protect it from bigger rocks sneaking in and puncturing the radiator. It can be a really expensive fix if that happens. And if you're looking for something sturdier that'll hide stuff in your trunk, consider the voltshelf as well. It's pricey, but well worth it for the security and it helps absorb some of road noise, along with making your climate control work better because there's less area in the cabin to heat up/cool down.

    I think I would get something like the Volt if I were to buy an electric car today. Your long trip points are extremely valid. If we wanted to go to the Outer Banks with a Tesla, we'd have to stop at least once (hoping a charging station is somewhere near the halfway point) and sit for an hour and wait for it to charge. That'd be extremely annoying.

      In 1 000 000 years mother nature can produce oil that we are going to spent in 200years, how about that?
      What after that?
      When you filling your tank you have to physically be present at gas pump and hold that pipe, you have to wash you hands after, with electricity you just plug in and go to WC or drink coffee, etc.
      Nobody drive 200miles and fill tank and immediately go again 200miles, you have to rest a little, in the mean time your car is charging, 20min is very fast.
      You are not machine to just fill and go and fill and go.
      It's against law to drive like that!

I don't care about the environment but that shit is a total hassle. You can fill your tank and pay 10 times as much if you want. I will stretch my legs for another 10min. I really don't get these arguments except I know you guys just don't have the experience. Once I got my Tesla I felt so bad for people who don't understand. This thing is AMAZING. Everyone who uses it love it. FUCK gas lololol.

    Owner of a 2017 Volt LT and it has lived up to all it was advertised to do. No maintenance issues, 90% of my driving is on the battery, it really does get 53 miles on a full charge and it’s a great driving car! The gas generator is relatively quiet when it comes on and I get 42 mpg all day long when it runs. This is a real world car, no charge worries or extended refuel stops on trips. 8700 miles and only $91 spent on gas!

  • @jmzorko

    Jeremy,
    I agree 100% - I have the 2017 Volt, and it's a _very_ cool car in many ways. My lifetime average is 225mpg, because I almost never used gas. I'm solar at home and I have a level 2 charger in my garage, so if I plug it in at home, it's charged in a bit over 4 hours. I also have EV chargers at work, so between these and the various public EV chargers (many of them free), I would go for 3-4 months without using any gas at all.
    All of this being said, I got the Model 3 a bit over a month ago and am now selling the Volt. One thing about electric vehicles, at least from my experience, is that the more one drives them, the more one wants to stay on battery power. The generator in the Volt usually makes very little noise (unless it's on and you're accelerating heavily, then it sounds like any normal car engine), but whenever it came on, I longed for more battery range.
    Even though I have the Model 3 now, I still think the Volt is a very nice car (and it actually does a few things the Model 3 doesn't yet do). I'm a big advocate of EVs - Volts, Bolts, Teslas, Primes, Leafs - all of them. Congratulations on your Volt - I suspect you'll love it as much as I did :-)
    Regards,
    John

      A Volt is actually considered a Hybrid and not an EV but if you can use the EV features without going to gas, that's cool and it means you really don't need much more. I'm curious why not the Bolt? Just curious.

    • @jmzorko
      @jmzorko 6 лет назад +1

      How it's classified also depends on how it's driven. The Volt is an EV in the sense that, if charged, one doesn't need to ever put gas in it to drive it. As long as one drives less than 50-60 (often 70+ if driven efficiently) miles per day and charges it every night, one never needs to put gas in it, vs. a hybrid which still requires gas.
      I did seriously consider a Bolt, as I think they're very impressive in many ways. However, the styling is not my thing, and DC fast chargers that charge the Bolt (and other EVs with fast-charging capabilities) at speeds comparable to Tesla Superchargers are not very common yet. In the next few years i'm sure they will be, though. Owning any EV represents a lifestyle change. Cars like the Volt and other plugins make this change easier with the gas backup, while other cars like the Bolt and Tesla make it easier with their longer ranges, but they each require that one address how they're going to charge it.

    I drive a 2012 Volt and have never minded a $500+ payment. It is so fun to drive! I go a bit out of my way to drive a little road with 25 mph curves that I routinely take at 45 (55 if leaves and weeds are gone!) Another mile is a downhill that I start at 25 and roll is so great that I end at 55 braking for 90 degree turn and go another mile without touching the accelerator! So far no tickets!! I still get 48 miles per charge instead of 40 except when it is cold and have to use the heater. I am averaging 200+ mpg lifetime and add $5 premium gas each month if not taking a little trip.

    Leather seats are not an upgrade in any car. leather seats are a downgrade. Leather seats are not comfortable in heat or in cold even if you have heated seats or cooled seats. And they are not more durable. up to the late 90's a person could by a car with premium cloth seats that were much more comfortable and durable than any leather seat. Leather seats are a marketing ploy by manufacturers to create a perception of luxury, since a lot of European a cars came with leather seats. But if a person considers comfort as the ultimate luxury then car manufacturers need to bring back premium cloth seats which they are now starting to do.

    • @jeremyjudkins
      @jeremyjudkins  6 лет назад +7

      The biggest reason I like leather seats is because they are easy to clean. I live in Florida, and I don't find them getting very hot... my car is tinted and I also put a sunshade up. I also keep my car in my garage when at home anyway. Cold seats are obviously a non issue in Florida as well.
      Spill something on cloth seats and its a pain to clean.. leather seats... you just wipe it up!

    By the way, good choice! The Volt is an innovative design which works well, and the 2nd generation is an improvement on the first. You show the window sticker, but you didn't pay sticker price did you? One thing you didn't mention was that you can bargain with the Chevy dealer. No such thing with Tesla, you pay what they want you to pay.
    Another great feature which I use almost daily is shifting the car into L to maximize regen when you lift off the accelerator pedal. Between this and the regen paddle, this allows you to one-pedal drive in stop-and-go traffic.

    • @spiitztravsky6333
      @spiitztravsky6333 6 лет назад

      LOL, you like knowing someone payed less for your vehicle? You like battling to get a decent price and that you probably still lose that battle? Tesla owners don't mind the price tag and at least we know everyone pays the same thing for them. That is a positive not a negative. Why do you think cars are discounted anyway? It is because they need to get rid of them when nobody is buying. Tesla's just don't have that problem. Why is that? If there is no dealership to support with maintenance and repair services the car is cheaper and they don't need to build in repair costs. My last car was VW and it has 7 recalls. Half of them I paid out of pocket for because it took 5 years of lawsuits for them to admit their parts were crap. Do some homework. Electric motors and batteries are insanely reliable. They drive SO MUCH better and save money er Day.

    • @hjeffwallace
      @hjeffwallace 5 лет назад +1

      The engineers dealt with "old gas" issue. If all your trips are under 50 miles, you should consider a used electric (including a used Volt).
      My 2014 Volt was $10,000 used. 30 mile elecric + gas range extender.
      My 2014 smart was $5000 used. 65-80 mile electric. no gas.

    You're going to want to use the gas motor somewhat frequently to keep it working well. Gasoline goes bad and gums up the fuel system. Look into Stabil and possibly using ethanol free gasoline because it lasts longer

      Volt engineers thought of this. If I only drive elect, it will burn gas 2 ways: uses gas motor for heat in the winter. Runs the gas motor to use up gas. It has not been an issue for me, since I use a tank every 6 months.

    • @erikstephens34
      @erikstephens34 6 лет назад +1

      GM was once accused of cheating on diesel emissions in Europe a few years ago. But that was proven to not be the case as Euro emissions compliance allows bypass of the catalytic converters in Diesels in high temperatures to avoid damage of the emissions control equipment. Do you have proof otherwise? I am a strong EV advocate and agree that emissions from combustion engines need to be (and will be) phased out. Thankfully companies like GM have fully committed in doing so and are investing tens of Billions of dollars today to do so.

    • @markplott4820
      @markplott4820 6 лет назад +1

      Erik - GM, Ford and Christler are not as Commited as TESLA is about Sustainable Transport. Its why they Primary focus on Hybrids rather than BEV, easier to do but more complex than a BEV or ICE car. A BEV like the model 3 has 75% less wireing than the Chevy VOLT. Its why they still sell and make ICE cars as their MAIN business. American auto (except Tesla ) are complicit in dealings with the oil industry, to manipulate gas prices, and keep the Status Quo and BEV suppressed. Its why Chevy BOLT is anemic compared to the TESLA model 3, 230 Miles compared to 310 miles. $40K vs $44K. just $4000 gets you the Worlds most affordable car the Model 3. and While we are comparing cars even Hyundai KONA EV vs Chevy BOLT again , there is no comparison , the KONA is sold out in the UK, Asia and Europe. GM was kicked out of the EU It cant sell the Opel. At least Toyota and Honda will be trimming down their ICE car models in favor of making All Car lines have an EV option by 2025.

    I had always wanted a Volt from when they first came out but was out of my price range when new. To me the Volt uses the best "hybrid" system by being all-electric powered and having the gas motor for longer range. Last fall my girlfriend needed to replace her Dodge Magnum and I had just sold my 2004 VW Golf TDI and we found a 2014 just coming off lease, with 40,000 miles for $14,500 in mint condition which was a great deal. She compared Mazda 6, the new Camry, Honda Civic and she fell in love with the volt which I never thought she would because she is not into technology. She drives 120 miles daily for work and driving from Ohio to Florida and back, sometimes at continuous speeds of 90 mph , still averaged 40 mpg and normally around 42 for 70 mph sections. The biggest thing people will notice is the car is super quiet and feels solid. Not tinny and noisy like a Prius or other hybrids. We love ours and want to encourage anyone considering a Volt to drive it before making a decision.... You will be impressed when you compare.

      Most of my cars reached 200,000+ miles or 10 yrs+ before they were replaced. As my ice car reached the high miles and 7 years + age, maintenance is a pain. I do not know for these hybrid cars, more parts and two system would further give you more maintenance issues if you keep your car longer. I would either stick to ICE cars or go full electric and not hybrid

    • @scottknl

      Since many volt drivers don't use the engine very much, engine maintenance is minimal. One fellow I read said "When the big battery finally dies in this car, I'll still have a nearly brand new engine and get high 30's or low 40's for gas mileage". And then there's the other fellow that has 400,000 miles on his volt and no battery degradation at all. Seems like a winner all around. I love my volt.

    Jeremy Judkins chevy VOLT DEBUNKED - FACT Chevy VOLT is using 10 year old technology perhaps more. LG Chem batteries are LESS Advanced than the TESLA battery packs. Chevy has ZERO Superchargers and destination chargers, you cant charge at a Chevy VOLT owners house with Plugshare partnership, but TESLA can charge @ TESLA owner home. Solar Roof, Home Battery and Chargepoint most efficient setup, Home Battery charges car faster, you can also use 3rd Phase charge point for faster HOME charging. All Hybrids cars are more complex, have more moving parts than a TESLA = more things to BREAK. TESLA model 3 has 75% less cableing than a Chevy VOLT. Hybrids carry a ICE engine, fuel, plus batteries and Electric motor.
    TESLA simpler, nothing to break. just Batteries, inverter, and motor or DUAL motors. 4 year 50,000 mile warranty.
    ALL Hybrids burn gas every week even if no charge is needed, to keep gas fresh. gas has expiration date.
    TESLA has very low Drag coeficent . Model 3 ER version has 310 Mile range, has access to Supercharger and Destination charger network. the Largest in America. 1317 Superchargers in America with more coming in Q4 2018. Superchargers getting upgraded to GEN III = faster supercharging. TESLA - you can summon your car and park it remotely in tight spaces. TESLA , ZERO gas, ZERO oil, ZERO brakes. TESLA model 3 can do 0-60 in 3.3 Seconds with Performance tires. 2020 Roadster can do 0-60 1.9 seconds and has over 600 mile range on 1 charge. (base model). Chevy VOLT $40K vs TESLA Model 3 $44,000 - $10,000 in California Tax Rebate. Production in Just 1 - 2 Months. FULL Tax rebate in effect until January 1 2019. FACT is TESLA model 3 Delivery up and repairs and Defect super low. you wont survive a Chevy VOLT crash at 70 Mph. TESLA model 3 Driver survived 70 Mph crash with other car , car flipped multiple times, TESLA totaled , Driver Lived. no Glass pennitration. I could provide MORE evidence , you made the wrong choice. but Im tired and want to Sleep. oh, I forgot, in Germany they ran a Tesla Model 3 for over 600 Miles on 1 charge by going 38 Miles an hour !!!!!

    I have a friend who owns this Volt and a Prius. You might be surprised, but he is getting rid of the Prius. Why? Because in the snow on the mountain with snow tires, the Volt gets up his mountain with no problem. With the Prius, the transmission shuts down on the traction control to protect the transmission, and the car tends to slide back down the mountain until the brakes can stop skidding. A disadvantage most won't be concerned about, but it is real.

    My wife and I have a '12 Volt and love it!! She drives it to work and back, every day, about: 30 mi/day so we almost never use the gasoline engine. We have solar panels and a small wind turbine so we charge the car with them. We decided to wait for the Tesla Mod3 as it was going to take another couple of years to get one and wanted an EV now. I'd like to see GM keep the Volt and add a slightly larger battery for: ~80 miles of EV range, until the solid state batteries come available, then we can switch everything to all-EV.
