    I know this is 2 years old now but thank you so much. I've been inconsistent with my long irons (short and woods were fine) and couldn't figure out why. The issue was my setup. After watching this, and experimenting, I realized I was sitting a bit in my stance, instead of bringing my pelvis back. I didn't sit with my woods cause I stand taller and it didn't affect the short irons as much since they are more forgiving. I now make sure my pelvis is correct as part of my setup routine (bow instead of sit/squat) and everything is so much more consistent. So happy!

    This is the video I've been searching for, it covers (or uncovers) major items that I have been missing in my setup. It has taken awhile to digest it all but every point is important. This video has pointed out flaws in my setup and swing that I felt were wrong but have not previously found an answer for and I have watched a lot of videos. Thanks for a great set of lessons all in one.

    Hello Clay! You are hands down the best instructor in you tube, I've been following you for quite a few now. I have a question for you and you might or not be able to answer it. I have a physical problem with my body my left leg is about 3" shorter than my right leg due to a motorcycle accident and often promotes a slice in my shot because my left shoulder becomes lower and my right shoulder is higher. What do you think I should do to help my golf game?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  5 лет назад

      Hi Alan, a slice is caused by the club face being open to the club path. It sounds like your leg being shorter makes it natural for you to swing the club more out to in. You're likely going to need to get more comfortable swinging in to out. Practice hitting shots that start to the right and curve to the left and get comfortable with that (assuming you're right handed). If you can control your face and path then you can have pretty good control of the ball. Best of luck! Quentin | TSG Instructor

      Thanks for your interest, but Clay's not currently able to do any in-person lessons at this time. He focuses all his time on the website and
      videos, which allows him to help the most players possible. Robin, our Director of Instruction, is giving in-person lessons in the Orlando area. We also offer a swing reviews as an additional service for our All Access Members. Instructors include Robin, Tommy and myself. So, after you become an All Access Member, you'll want to go to our unlimited swing reviews page and grab a spot (if one's available) or get on the waiting list. Let me know if you've got any other questions. And if you're ready to purchase the membership, just use the quick link below because you can sign up in about 1 minute: topspeedgolf.com/pick-all-access-plan/ Thanks! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    What is the range on the angle of your back at address? This does not get talked about too much but I tend to either stand up too straight causing my hands to to be in too much ulnar deviation, causing a fade or crunch down radial extension causing too much of a draw. Thanks for this Clay!

    When hitting a 3 wood from the tee, should you tee it up high and hit up on it like a driver, or tee it low and swing more like you would when hitting it from the fairway off the ground?

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  6 лет назад

      Hi, if you're going for distance with your 3 wood which is usually the case off the tee then I would recommend teeing it high enough so that you can hit up on it and launch it like you're driver. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    just by what you're talking about right now this might be why i all of a sudden cant hit my 7 iron more than 140, at the beginning of the year i was hitting 165, but i have noticed i take deeper divots and ive always moved the ball around in my stance the bigger club i take the further up i played it so that makes perfect sense now, sucks that its going to take a lot of work hitting the ball right again

    I have a question about ball position, I remember years ago that Greg Norman in his videos and books talked about the ball being in the same position, which seems to be what you are saying at the start of this video, I was wondering though if you could explain, why so many golf pros teach having the ball in different positions, like the middle of the stance for wedges 9 and 8 irons, then a little forward of centre for 7 6 and 5 irons, and then a little further forward for 3 and 4 irons and fairway woods, I this a bit confusing, thank you in advance ☺

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  5 лет назад

      Hi Mark, I agree, it is confusing which is why I wouldn't over complicate it. Play it straight down from the lead ear for all clubs off the turf. If you want to move it a ball back for wedges then that's fine. It will promote a steeper angle of attack and allow you to hit it lower with more spin. If you want to play it a ball forward in your stance for upper irons, hybrids and fairway woods then that is fine too. This will help you come in more shallow and make it easier to get the ball up in the air. You can also move it more back in the stance to make it easier to it draws and more forward to make it easier to hit fades. I hope that helps. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    I'm 5' 9" - Do I need standard length clubs? How does a person 5 inches taller play same clubs as me? I'm so confused.

      Hi Mark, that's impossible to say. Go get fitted by a reputable fitter to find the club you need. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    I hit my 7 iron no where close to 200 yards. 170-175 tops.

    This video is contradicting what I thought.... I thought short irons needed the ball further back to your right foot and you hit down onto the ball, during the downswing. How the guy in the video had the ball further forwards seemed like how I’d use woods.

      Hi, thanks for watching. Typically, straight down from the lead ear is a good ball position for shots off the turf. You can play it a little further up for longer clubs or further back for shorter clubs. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

    Hi Clay you have a great looking swing and no dought you are a great player,but I find all your videos to technical. We all have our own golf swing just like we all have our own fingerprint and if us golfers are looking on line for help, we our not practicing to be a pro ever. While we all thinking about what this should be doing and that, how is it possible for us to hit the golf ball? Thinking what you should be doing while you are setting up to a golf shot will create to much tension and we all should know that is the number one enemy in golf. Golf should be about finding your Own natural golf swing and that can be in possible by watching a pga coach on video. Sorry but I do find watching videos on RUclips entertaining 😁

      Hi Marcus, I 100% agree with most of what you said. We all have our own natural tendencies. Making technique swing changes is not for everyone. If you're not hitting the key swing techniques that Clay talks about in the Top Speed Golf System then you're capping you're potential really. These changes don't come without hard work. The key is to focus on one piece at a time because you definitely can't think about so many different things at once. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor

      Marcus - Take Clay's tips, one at a time, to the range. Practice just on one for a couple weeks (even if that means only two times to the range - your "thoughts" on golf between practice will continue helping you). Don't move on to the next one until you get a chance to feel what the first one is doing. And NEVER try to think through too much about your swing while on the course. The trick is to build your swing on the range, then bring that swing to the course, without thinking about it.
      For my first 15 years of playing golf, I had a horrible slice. I used Ben Hogan's book "Five Lessons" - just as I described. Two weeks to the range for each. It changed my whole enjoyment of the game. That was thirty years ago, and even though I only touch golf clubs about two times per year now, my natural tendency is to draw the ball just a bit.

      I quit golf for literally 7 years because i picked up a slice and could not shake it. Now, because if people like Top Speed Golf, i was able to turn my slice into any shot that i wanted, draw or fade. If you say you can't learn off this video that's totally your opinion but please don't say others. Every time i get the chance to learn from Clay I always have a pen n paper and i take those notes straight to the range and work on the things he covered. I still have a pretty high handicap but i am out there enjoying one of the most challenging games there is. TSG has helped me a lot and i am very thankful for that.

    I get more power with a medium stance. Wide legs kill my rotation.
