I have been "playing golf" for over 20 years and have NEVER been able to hit my driver. ALWAYS in the woods on the right. That bending your wrist back so the logo of your glove is facing the ground, changed that! I hit perfectly straight drives down the fairway 4 out of 6 times now. I can't thank you enough. Been watching your lessons for about a year, now I feel I HAVE to join your exclusive classes just for the payment of showing me how to drive. Thanks again Clay!
@@TopSpeedGolf As Brook says, at about 9:40 you demonstrate making your glove logo point to the ground. But that's not what happens in a real golf swing. Your left wrist executes closer to the hammer motion some instructors teach, when you start using the club in this video. In Adam Scott's slow motion swing, his glove logo seems to be pointing more towards the sky than the ground. Why do you recommend practicing something that doesn't really happen?
Clay, you have the best swing of anybody on the net. I appreciate your teaching style and content. It all makes great sense. I have put video of my swing next to yours and was blown away how much better your swing is! I am working on making mine look more like you. Thanks for the great instruction and example.
I was taught years ago to square the face with my left hand by rotating it. Part two was releasing as quickly as possible and flipping hands like Jack and Watson both do. I am old now and my just started playing after a 12 year lay off. Every thing is different in many ways foe equipment to the swing.my coach is helping me to use a more modern and controllable swing and your videos are a big help.
Clay, your videos have been very informative and educational. As I was watching, being flustered with trying to perfect my swing, I was greeted with comic relief. My message tone is from a moment in WoW where a player runs headlong into a room screaming his name. Theres nothing like watching a pro drive one off the tee while someone is yelling "Leroy Jenkins!"
This is an instruction performance. Being able to demonstrate this content and keep perfect cadence is art. Almost like a singer who is dancing st the same time.
Thank YOU - Thank YOU. I (hip 18) did test it. The lawnmower visualization helped me best. For me that is fatter of a straight ball. After a couple of tries, I pumped one down the range. Like I never did before. On the course I am scratching now the 200 y mark - At 34F (Germany) THXXX
Took this to the range today, setting the wrist made a huge difference. Not hitting a fade yet, but damn if I didn't feel like I actually had a shot of hitting the fairway. I find it hard to set the wrist on the down swing, so I was just doing it on my back swing and hold it all the way through.
Hey Clay. Thanks for this mate, great drill. Really helped me out, I was staying on my back foot and was launching the ball miles into the air with not distance. But thanks to this drill I now get through the ball much better and I am now getting the ball much lower flight and a lot further.
Clay few know more about golf swings dynamics as you ....add to that you have the best swing of all the current professionals teachers...you load-coil to the right much like Jimmy Ballard.
I keep wondering watching your lots of videos because I grip little bit stronger than you, how you make square face at impact. As I know, just little bit of stronger grip(left line of left thumb at 12:30 not at 12:00) would be easier to make single-plane swing and square at impact without rotating club face. I deloft and address at center my driver as if I hit 7-iron with just little bit strong grip(ball is at normal driver position; inside of left heel), and it goes sure-straight.
Do you have to do that wrist action (square the face) with irons too or only driver? I don't do the wrist action with irons and I hit them well but not with driver. so just wondering if I have to change it for irons and driver.
Great instructions - thanks. A bit difficult to understand parts of pre-swing steps or exercise, especially hand rotation in backswing. Adding graphics would help.
Great instructor! I became a member several years ago and you completely changed my game. I do hit a lot of great shots now. BTW what driver are you using in this video? I like the way it sets up.
Thanks! Glad to hear the instruction is helping. I believe Clay is using his Ping i15 driver. It's probably 10 years old and they are hard to find. He has cracked a couple of them. Play well !Quentin | TSG Instructor
Great video. Getting back into golf after several years. I'm having problems squaring my hands early, hence the slicing with long irons and woods. For some reason it's not computing in my noggin. I'm not quite seeing what you're doing with your hands when you have the club in hand.
Hi Thomas, I would recommend trying to get the club face to square earlier in the swing by turning the handle and then rotate through impact. This is what Clay talks about in our The Move section on the website. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Clay, looking at your trackman reading on your first drive, it shows a club path of 1.5R and FTP 1.0R. Your ball flight from the trackman is a very decent draw flight. Why is that so? I always thought FTP has to be negative or left of club path to create the draw. Can you help me understand why is this a draw flight instead of a fade flight? Thanks.
Hi Eric, that is assuming a center strike. If you strike the ball on the toe then it will tend to want to draw and off the heel, it will tend to want to fade due to something called gear effect. We use FlightScope which tracks the flight of the ball so the weather elements can play a factor too. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Eddie, this is with all clubs. The only big difference between a driver swing and an iron swing is that you want to hit a driver on the upswing and down on irons. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I went to a PGA Summit here in Australia year 2000 and Jimmy Ballard was the keynote speaker. His opening words were - "You have all been taught to turn, you all do it and you all teach others to do it. To turn is the worst thing you can do in golf. IT ISN'T A TURN, IT'S A COIL". Since that Summit I hit it pretty good all the time and so do my students. Are you related to Jimmy?
Hi Doug, thanks for sharing. Clay is not related to Jimmy. We think he is a great instructor but it's just a coincidence. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Dennis, yes, your head will be behind the ball for those clubs too. Some people are a lot more behind with the driver because it can help to swing more up on the ball. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
I'm a bit confused about head movement. You move your head quite a bit to your right side in this video. Is this OK? "Everyone" tells me to not move my head but my swing videos look just like your demo. Can you answer the basic question as to how much your head can move? Love all your videos!!!!!
Hi William, you're exactly right, Clay's head does move throughout the swing. This is totally fine. You just want to make sure that you're spine is stable. You can definitely go overboard with head movement but if your spine is stable then you'll be good. This is one of the keys to the Top Speed Golf System that is taught on the website. Here is the link if you want to check it out: topspeedgolf.com/courses/stable-fluid-spine/. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Joebe, too much to explain in a comment. I would search "grip" on our channel. There are a bunch of great videos on here. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi John, yes, squaring the face early will help you rotate your body more through impact. This will help you deloft the face for more compression. Clay actually talks about that in this video from our website that is only available to our members: topspeedgolf.com/vault/club-face-rotation-in-golf/. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Randy, yeah, you can do that but I have found that it's much more difficult for most people and can shorten the swing. Guys that do it like Dustin Johnson are incredible athletes. I'm not saying you're not a good athlete. I just know I can't do it :-) Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Paul, I would recommend working through The Move section on the website. Here is the link if you want to check it out: topspeedgolf.com/courses/the-move/. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi John, that's great that you want to wear some of our stuff but I'm sorry, we don't have a store. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor
Hi Ante, sorry to hear that. If the ball goes straight to the right then that is product of an open club face and a path that is too in to out. In this case, I would search videos on our site for blocks and hooks. If it is starting pretty straight then curving a lot to the right then your path is too much out to in. You'll want to search for videos on casting. A good instructor would be able to work you out of this in a lesson for sure. Best of luck! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@@TopSpeedGolf thanks it doesn't slice just goes straight. Ive tried going out to in that helped a few times but was unable to repeat.
