The disbelief in Invoker's voice when he says "This is your child," is soul crushing.
It's so powerful how her daughter stood up to her tho, Selemene in the scene didn't say "daughter" but she said "speak child" (she spoke to her as a wannabe goddess but not as a parent, as a mother). The fact that she looks so disappointed and sad at her own mother when she says "I love you but I won't worship you", kinda broke me. It was in a soft but bittersweet voice but how can she accept somebody who almost never was part of her life? who is so prideful and arrogant that doesn't even want to spend time with her as her father did. Honestly, I did see a bit of emotion in Selemene faces when her own daughter didn't accept her but the fact that she would rather let her own child die speaks volumes. The daughter died hating her own mother, and to be honest, Invoker was an amazing parent, sadly the fact that she was her daughter is what killed her.

Remember, Carl was much more powerful than Selemene was, but still knelt before her, sacrificing his pride, which we know from Dota 2 to eclipse(hehe) even that of Zeus, to save his daughter. Selemene got she deserved, if not less.
I think this might be why his pride is so high now. He knelt once and it got trampled and he still lost what was most important to him. After that I'd say it is reasonable to never again lower his head.

That was heartbreaking. He tried everything he could on his own and then threw away his pride to save what was most dear to him, but she still refused to help and their child died. Filomena already told her that she loves her but she doesn’t need the moon goddess, what she needs is her mother. Yet Selemene chose to ignore her daughter’s condition out of spite for Carl the Invoker her baby daddy. This just proves to show the reality of how children always suffer the consequences of the pride and immaturity of adults, especially their parents, the children always pay the price.

I've been thinking about this scene post season three. Filomena tells Invoker that no goddess could have healed her forever because the disease is just a part of her. I wonder if that's the real reason. Selemene wasn't unwilling to heal a daughter that refused to worship her. I think that was just her excuse. Her real fear was that eventually Filomena's disease would return, and thus reveal that there were limits to Selemene's power.

Even in the recreated reality without Selemene, she still gets the disease. It makes me believe that Selemene was not the one that gave Filomena the disease, but rather it might have been a cancer naturally formed during her childhood. Filomena even said that there was no cure in that reality. The treatment for it was only delaying its effect rather than curing it. I do like that the ending shows that the reality that Mirana recreated came with the flowers that can finally cure it, which was according to the Invoker’s calculations all along.
Actually, I think the flowers at the end were just keeping it at bay. We see her do the trick with the flowers several times, taking their energy to restore herself. I think season 4's villain will be Fil as she tries to become the new goddess to cure herself once and for all.

I honestly believe that selemene did actually care for her daughter. She gets mad whenever someone brings her up. The reason she does not help here is not because, she does not care, but because she does not have the power to save her. Rather than admitting that, she turned around.

@@Harz02 he didn't quite kill them for that reason. There had been several assassination plots against him (think was after the 6th or 7th), bored of those assasination attempts he declared his intent to kill a magus and they all ganged up on him. He then killed everyone.

You know, watching this and when Selemene asked Invoker if he loved her?
I think he was telling that he loves his daughter even though he is answering Selemene’s question. But I never saw him LOOK at her telling her that. He is willing to bend on one knee and ask some being with a title of “goddess” to her name, and swear himself to devotion. So parents learn a child is a blessing not a gift it’s your choice what to do with it. But you can return a gift, a blessing is an everlasting love that you cherish. Invoker learned that WITHOUT a goddess’ help.

I think Invoker helped Selemene kill the previous Moon goddess Mene! And when Selemene took her place she was drunk for power and worship even for her own daughter!
She was good before turning on a goddess. In the new world she was a nice mother, but died somehow choosing to not be a goddess. Filomena grew up to find comfort in his mother's memories and had a happy life with her father until the mad moon stuff start happening.
