This scene was basically enough for me to be on team Hades all the way.

Have just watched that deleted scene and now I REALLY hate Demeter >:(
They should've kept it in. It shows how Demeter truly doesn't approve that Persephone married Hades and that she doesn't care who suffers so long as her daughter is with her.
That includes her own grandchildren.

Never thought I’d see them depicted beyond the Hades games.
the Hades games 100% helped it. While Melinoe for her part is alright, the existance of Zagreus himself is somewhat debatable. He might or not be two different caracters slapped together. Its one of those things the greeks either didnt make it clear, fucked up or the specifics were lost.
@@nathanielclaw2841reason of that is zagreus' myth is just new, after the ages of patriarchal transformation. He is kind of a part of creation human from clay kind of myths, which is logocentric and immaterial. Im speculating but this myth probably appeared early bronze age, as an ideological reflection of hierarchy and disjunction of magna maters.
@@nathanielclaw2841 He was a prominent figure in the Orfeic cults, which were secret cults. In a lot of fonts that depict his name he may be dionysus or he may be Hades. I don't know how you expected then NOT to be depicted again after the Hades games ^^
It's a testament to how good Hades' writing is that their OG characters seamlessly integrate into existing myth.
Does kind of make me wonder about copyright though. Supergiant Games *does* own these characters, no?
I like it when Persephone and Hades are happy together. I love gothic love.
Zeus sleeps around, Poseidon does too, and Hades is the faithful one.

Posideon is the one who doesn't think consent is a factor
And Hades is the only one of ye three brother who genuinely loves his wife

@@EthanHolmes-gr6mg i would add zeus on the second sentence about consent, lets not forget the man also commited bestiality multiple times

Okay, but let's take a moment to imagine the passive aggressive conversation Persephone has with her mother every year about "understanding her pain so well -- I miss my children too, and just like you, I only get to see them half the year! Of course, *my* children are ACTUALLY children, who cry and beg me not to go. But gods forbid you not be deprived of my company."

Hahaha, I thought the same.
Hades, God of the Dead.
Zagreus, God of Rebirth.
Melinoe, God of Ghosts.
You forgot Persephone, Goddess of Spring
I think the rebirth thing was just from the Hades game. There isn’t any confirmation about what Zagreus was the god of in mythology I don’t think.
@@zrixie7695 Mythologically he's the god of Rebirth, otherwise known as the Circle of Life god, as he inherited the Underworld from Hades and became the god of the Underworld representing Life, Death, Rebirth, and to a lesser degree, Hunting.
It's why in Hades the game they made him the main character, as the whole game is just him being reborn over and over, and why he has good chemistry with Artemis.
Referring to the game Hades, Melinoe is also accurate to the real-world depiction of the mythological god. She was the god of ghosts and nightmares. She guides ghosts back to the areas of the underworld they belong, preventing them from haunting the living, and is also the bringer of nightmares and madness using those same spirits. In the game she can call upon those spirits to help her in battle, and collects "N-mare", the essence of nightmares.
Macaria : Goddess of good dead
@@DillonMeyeractually, the other person was right. There wasn't really direct "thing" he was god of, but he more often than not related to hunting as his name meant something along the lines of "God of pitfalls". The rebirth thing comes from the belief that he was the first form of Dionysus. Once he died is heart was taken and Dionysus was born. Hades being his father isn't even fully agreed on, as in Greek mythology he's usually referred to the son of Zeus and Persephone, and when he is mentioned as Hades son, it's more often than not implied that Zeus took Hades form and approached Persephone.
I bet money Demeter doesn't give two shits and a fuck about her grandkids.
If she did she'd want the kids to join their mother on the half yearly visits. The fact they get left behind is proof enough that she couldn't care less about them.
@alannatherson7721 Demeter, if she were a good grandma would be spoiling her grandbabies
From what I'm getting she doesn't
Demeter wants her daughter to stay a virgin forever.
And the Gods are immortal. So it really means forever.
Kinda a Karen of ancient time
I think we are all forgetting something important. the kids were born in the underworld and are most likely bound there forever meaning that even if they did leave, they would die a short time later and return to the underworld. it's not that Demeter doesn't care about them but rather she can't do anything for them. if anything, I would argue she wants to see them but can't do to her being needed to keep Spring going otherwise without her presence, there would be an eternal winter

I freaking love this! We see that Hades isn’t doing this out of malevolence. He genuinely wants his family to be whole. He may be an antagonist, but he’s in no way evil.
I’m hoping we see more of these kids in future seasons.
I wouldn't call Hades an antagonist. in the classic myth of the Greek gods, he keeps his word, doesn't cheat on his wife, and even helps whenever possible to any mortals who happen to wander in. the only known instance of Hades becoming slightly upset is the myth of the 2 Greek heroes Theseus and Pirithous and believe me, they deserved it. Hades isn't evil but the people who wrote about him had to make someone a bad guy and since he was Lord of the Underworld, he got the raw end of the deal when in reality, as the firstborn of Cronos, Olympus was his by birthright. remember this though: as Lord of the Underworld, everyone becomes his subject eventually
@@drifter139 First born male of cronos in most myths the goddess hestia is older which is why her domain is the hearth and home

Of course I can't and won't condone what he did to Heron at the end, but I totally understand it. He just wants to keep his family together and stop his wife having to leave him and their children every year.
It's really nice to see Hades portrayed as actually a really cool and loving family man.
Don't get me wrong. Disney's Hades from Hercules will always be iconic and hilarious no *ss, but in Hercules, he was depicted as the villain.
In Blood of Zeus, I wouldn't say he's a villain. He's more like an opportunist if anything else. Of course, that's just my opinion. You're free to agree or disagree if you like. It's cool.
This is probably the closest we got to a culturally accurate representation of Hades. Since in Greek mythology, Hades was actually one of the nicest gods and the one who actually remained faithful to Persephone. He was the god that should have been King of Olympus but got dealt the bad hand.

Like Castlevania Netflix series they perfectly pace and formulate the sentences so that in some situations the manner of speak is straightforward and stern, every word meaning EXACTLY what it's supposed to. But in some instances like this the manner of speak is more poetic and undefined. Keeping the audience engaged and uniquely incorporating emotion. Incredible.
I know what you mean.
Especially listening to Lara Pulver's performance as Persephone. I fell in love with her voice and the way she says her lines.
Plenty of her dialogue in episode 3, Winter is Born, is poetry as well.
Here in episode 2 when she says "Winter has ended." it breaks my heart listening to how clearly resigned Persephone sounds about having to return to Olympus and leave her family.
Throughout season 2 Lara Pulver has so beautifully and brilliantly conveyed a full array of emotions in Persephone's dialogue. Sadness, resignation, fear, doubt, conviction, spite, love, tenderness, determination; I'm amazed by her work with this beautiful characterization of Persephone.
Everyone's done such a wonderful work. The actress, the directors, the writers, even character designers.
I hope season 3 is confirmed soon because I need more of this.

A lot of modern myth books will claim the actual father is Zeus, or Zeus disguised as Hades, but this is likely a later Greek misinterpretation of Mycaenean texts describing the father as "Chthonic Zeus" (note that Greek mythology is not a nice neat canon: it was a fluid living religion with a ton of different regional stories and beliefs that changed over time). This entity is NOT the same as Sky God Zeus, but an otherwise nameless Underworld deity. This particular deity would later morph into Hades. Plus, some sources like Aeschylus and Orphic texts outright refer to Hades as the sire of these deities.
So yeah, Blood of Zeus and Hades take a lot of artistic liberty. But Hades actually being Zagreus and Melinoë's father is not one of those instances. That is a perfectly valid take on the info we have.
Yes, exactly! And to add on and support what you've said, people did not like to speak Hades' name, so they called him various titles of Zeus, including "chthonic Zeus" (much like how devout Christians today do not like to speak the names Satan or Lucifer and instead call him things like "the Devil" or just "evil"). Its the evolution of ancient Greek myth over time that muddies these waters, but that makes it all the more fascinating.
I find Demeter a huge hypocrite because she always demands her adult daughter to spend half the year with her. Meanwhile, her grandchildren, ACTUAL KIDS, are forced to lose their mother every Spring-Summer. The separation hurts Persephone, Hades, Zagerus, and Melinoe, but Mommy Dearest Demeter doesn't care. She can't accept that her daughter is a grown woman with her own life, or that other people need her, too.
Oh boy. Have you ever read the original myths? Lmao
@Courtannica Yes, I have. In fact, my MLIS (Master of Library and Information Science) focused on myths and folklore. I was interpreting the series' versions of Demeter, Hades, Persephone, and their children. After all, myths are constantly revamped for each generation's mindset. Maybe you should learn how to analyze different texts rather than insult strangers.
@@rebekahvaught2747they You should know that Melione is fictional and Zagreus not Even Hades son but Zeus. If mentioned at all. And that Deméter feared For Persephone healt since being the goodes of Spring she needs contact with her elements, on Hades she would be deprived of sun, stars and soil.
@@xCoatlicuexand you should know that Zagreus' father was described as "Zeus of the Underworld"
@@rebekahvaught2747 You are perpetrating hot garbage by making Demeter a helicopter parent. You are supporting modern misogynist fanfiction. Persephone was in every version of the myth unconsentially kidnapped. Demeter was challenging the society of the time were daughters were married of to older men and separated from their mothers. But no lets villaify the Mother for protesting her daughters kidnapping and make the kidnapper a soft boy because a lot of young woman love to glorify toxic relationships as can be seen by Twilight and 40 shades popularity. Jesus Christ. The story of Persephone and Hades isn’t about them but about about Demeter and Hades. Most of the myth is spent on Demeters journey to find Persephone. . Its about the reality of ancient greek woman being married off young. A Mothers love and the cycle of the seasons. But of course these modern simpletons cut most of the myth out. Read the actual hymn to Demeter instead of bad fanfiction. Ironically these are supposed to be feminist retellings but because they love toxic relationships and because they want to make woman look empowered they tried to make it consential and make Demeter a villain. which makes the whole thing ironically misogynistic and less Feminist.
I love this personification of Hades and Persephone. All the others are true villains and they alone with their children are the victims here. If Demeter would just get over herself there would be no need for Hades to try for the stone. The family could be together. All this is her doing.
If I had been in Herons shoes I would've used the stones authority to allow Persephone to stay down in the Underworld permanently. And as punishment for Demeter for her not to be permitted to throw the Earth in eternal winter in a tantrum lest all the other gods and goddesses converge on her as punishment.
Why send Hades back to the Underworld when it makes him miserable even with Persephone and the kids there? Since there are 12 months in a year and 12 major gods in the Pantheon. Then, rearrange everything to where each of the main gods spends one month as the Deity of the Underworld. That way, Hades, Persephone, and the kids can spend 11 months enjoying the sun and getting to be actually happy.
Awwww. Hades dedicated with Perspehone, and their kids.
Yeah!
I haven’t played the second Hades game yet so seeing Zagreus was a real treat after beating the first one. 😁😁
This one scene has convinced me to root for Hades and Persephone.
Awww😢❤ my babies 🥺
This is why I trust Hades I know he's better than his brothers
Ngl, I can imagine this Zagreus turning into one from Hades game. His personality quite similar.
What perfect timing. Betcha it’s might be because of SuperGiant Games.
Even though it’s hard for the hades family to see Persephone to inside they have to understand that spring needs to happen and to calm down that CRAZY mother in law of theirs
now that I think of it, what motherly love? essentially Demeter is just blackmailing their whole family by lives of millions of people and they have to comply in order to save those hostages from a crazed terrorist like mother in law lmao
I don’t care what anyone says… but I am Team Hades here, like Demeter can’t be so selfish and stupid that she takes away her daughter from her grandkids.
Hades is practically the antagonist in Season 2, but we all know who is the real villain here
This is totally canon to the games. Trust 💯
It was an interesting week Early access to Hades 2 is released, Blood of Zeus is released where Hades and Persephone are main characters and Saturday was the last chapter of Lore Olympus that also stars Hades and Persephone. Very curious
Let’s face it, we’re all here cause of Hades/Hades 2
✋️😔✋️
Seeing these two makes me wonder if we’ll ever see Makaria, their third child and goddess of Blessed Death and Elysium.
Bruh when persephone leaves , it looks like hades is gonna beat his kids without any context
Awww so cute 🥺
Kids: Mommy!
Demeter: Haha she’s mine you bastards.
Hades: We’re married
Demeter: Not in my stories rapist
Curious if Makaria will also show up in some point, maybe she is just too young for this scene
There are some things even gods cannot control
Ive been playing Hades 2 nonstop😍😍😍😍 maybe the peopel who named this video knew whwt they were doing and that the title would catch the eyes of players of Hades 2 as well as fans of this show!
I've watched the first season of this good show over and over. The first time I saw Hades, i honestly thought that he was the next villain/foe for the next season. Now, it has changed the way i watched him from the movies and series in the past. I love the new Hades 😍
I am glad that they didn't make Hades in this show to be a Greek version of Satan like the rest of Hollywood always makes him to be. ( This is why I hate Percy Jackson movie)
that's what have been saying
I was so glad the Hades from the Percy Jackson series was far better and more acurate!
Hades does a lot of ruthless things in this season, but he's given just enough sympathetic moments to keep him from being a complete monster. I won't say he isn't a villain, but I do think Demeter is worse.
Hades is my favorite character in this show
like, Demeter do you not care about your grandchildren???
Oooh, fist-clenching at the end! That's a sure sign that Hades has had enough, and something's about to go down!
I really do love seeing the different depictions of the Greek gods, this is definitely a unique and unexpected appearance for hades.
I'd say this series is probably the closest, or one of the closest, we've gotten to a culturally accurate depiction to Greek mythology.
They animated Hades to look so much like Kratos from GOW
Gotta be hard for a parent😢😢😢
Haven't got to this point, but a big fan of the Hades/Persephone lore (and saw the pomegranate scene).
I feel like Demeter would resent Persephone's kids because she is a mother and wants to stay with her children and her children want her with them, but in Demeter's side shes a mom who wants her child but her child doesn't want to be with her.
I'm oddly happy to see more depictions of Hades and Persephone being happy together and sad when apart. Modern society really has a thing for goth love stories.
2:01 that bring me painful memories. To be honest
And I'm just thinking back to Lore Olympus web comics!!!
❤
Worst comic ever
@@GleamGoddessif it’s was bad, it would be controlled by Disney
@@uria3679 They already got Hercules!!! 😅😅😅
@GleamGoddess I liked it!!! But with that, they didn't make Apollo an ass hole!!!
Is it just me, or is Blood of Zeus literally the greatest reimagining of Greek mythology ever?
Is this what the show is called? I’ll have to take a look at it 👀 how do they portray Apollo and Artemis? Apollo has his own interesting story regarding him trying to get revenge for the death of one of his sons at Zeus’s hand. Though I’d have to look up if he actually had a good relationship with Asclepius
What do we say
(the God of Death literally stands nearby)
