As an Earth scientist educator turned hobbyist photographer, I really enjoy your videos. They all make me think more carefully about what I'm trying to communicate through my images. I'm really drawn to the relationships between foreground and background elements and have been trying to incorporate these more in my photos over the past year. What I like about it as an Earth scientist is the connection between features which are at vastly different scales - a boulder & a mountain, or a mushroom and a waterfall. Getting the relative sizes of those two key items in the image is, as you say, a major factor in choosing length of the lens.

Hello Adam. WOW!! What an amazing video. I also grew up under the dark cloth of a 4x5 - and my mentor was also David Muench! I spent hours pouring over Arizona Highways magazines. Then about 10 years ago I had the honor of spending g a week with him at a workshop in Death Valley. What an experience. I see that same emotion and power that David portrays in your work. Nothing wrong in being old school. Your the ones leading the way for the rest of of. Keep up the wonderful work.

I couldn't agree more with your comment about certain techniques being more digital art than photography. I think that's what I appreciate most about your photos and style in general, it's a very honest and integrity-laden portrayal of the scenes. I've long believed that's what photography should be, and it's how I've approached my own photos. Love the solid content of your videos.

Great video as always Adam. I’ve been doing landscapes since the 80’s. Born in 1964 I’m old school too , preferring to get it right in camera. Focus stacking isn’t for me. Your videos have a meditative quality which is great as I mainly watch them just before bedtime and I find them so relaxing. I leave Gavins videos until the daytime as I laugh so much at you both, my ribs hurt. . Let’s hope I get to Vancouver Island this summer so I can follow in your footsteps.

Excellent video, Adam. Best way to learn composition is to see and hear the reasoning behind the composition chosen, and whether or not it works. Being thoughtful and deliberate, using the available light to help direct your choices - excellent advice. Partly why I have switched to 4x5 film again. It forces one to be deliberate, think about what in the scene strikes the photographer, and then use ones skills to capture it. Excellent advice.

RUclips should come with a better way to like videos. To simply like is not enough. I like a lot of videos in RUclips, but they do not compare to the quality you provide. You deserve way more recognition than a single like can express. If it was from 0 to 10 I would give you an 11.

Well done, Adam. Very helpful to me, as in, I need to slow down and think about the foreground/background relationship and choose the focal length to get what I think will work well. I tend to look but not see. I'm too literal (engineer) and constrained most of the time. Your videos help.

Another good video in the series Adam. I appreciate the old school comments as I too am old school. I have very little appreciation for too much manipulation and artsy photography. Too my eye it seems to cheapen the image to some degree, and often is easily recognizable....not sure if that makes any sense to you or not. Regardless This Old School, Old Guy likes your channel very much. Have a great day.
