It will be a bit faster than the Burkie, with a little more power in the butt section. A hair lighter in hand too. But it will cast a similar grain weight.
Own this rod from when Sage first came out with Konnetic technology. Favourite of all my Spey rods. Fast and soft all at once. Yes it’s expensive, but I’ll never own another trout Spey. Is there such a thing as a mid belly line for this rod? I feel like it could handle one.
Yeah we love this rod too! I don't think you'd be able to find a mid belly from any big manufactures that is light enough for this rod. The Rio Scandi Short at 270gr is fun for dry line stuff though!
The HD is a little less "harsh" in my opinion. The HD has a refined taper that is a little more true spey. Deeper loading, smoother delivery. The ONE is an excellent series though and has a strong following.
@@ashlandflyshop770 Gotcha. Thanks so much for the reply! My 3wt is my go-to trout spey rod. I tend to use a 4wt for fighting wind and when I need bigger tips and flies. Do you think the HD is still an upgrade for that type of application?
Haven't spent as much time with the 3wt as the 4wt, but I bet it has a similar amount of power, though it may struggle a bit when it gets really windy. When we were filming that video, I did one cast with twelve strips of running line out of the rod.. That's somewhere in the eighty foot range and it felt just fine at that range. That will put you in the game in most trout and steelhead venues.

Great demonstration...Love the Sage One and can't wait to try this one :-)
Thank you! You won't be disappointed with these rods; they're gems.
Beautiful V-shape loop; nice casting.
Thank you!
Great review. Looks like a dandy rod. How would you compare it to Burkie 11ft 4" 4wt? Love that scandi body.

@@ashlandflyshop770 Thanks for the response.
Fantastic! What are the hardy wide spool perfect reel size can be match Sage Trout Spey HD 4 wt?
The 3 3/8" is perfect ;)
You briefly mentioned the Sage ONE. How do you think it compares to the HD?

In the video, is that a standard loop connection to your running line? Looks really compact.
Yes it's standard.. Rio 35lb Slick Shooter with a triple surgeons loop to the back loop on the Scandi Body
What size reel to pair? Sage Trout Spey Reel 3/4/5?
Yep! That's the one! Fits like a dream!
😊🎉😮
Great rod!! how much distance you can throw with that rod? Is there much difference with the 3wt?
Haven't spent as much time with the 3wt as the 4wt, but I bet it has a similar amount of power, though it may struggle a bit when it gets really windy.

They’re absolutely grubbing dries right behind you
