    When visiting Hever Castle one afternoon, I found it largely deserted. So, I grabbed a camera and did an impromptu tour of the castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. Because it was so spontaneous, the production is in no way flawless, but I hope you enjoy this quick tour of the Boleyn family home, which focuses on some of the highlights and how the castle would have looked in the sixteenth-century when Anne Boleyn was being pursued by the mighty King Henry VIII.

    British history, especially the Tudor era, is so fascinating. I really feel sad about the fact that King Henry lost interest in Anne Boleyn after the birth of their daughter.The irony of it all is that the daughter turned out to be among the greatest monarchs in British history. Looking forward to many more such videos.

      idk about "among the greatest monarchs" - who could be considered to be an equal or greater monarch than Elizabeth 1st?

    If only Lord Astor had left Hever Castle alone . Didn't he realise what a historically important building it was . Repairs if required, but moving staircases , walls , adding fireplaces and a minstrels gallery. Vandalism.

      Well, they can't tear everything out and start over. 500 years ago it had minimal decoration and looked like a barn. Back then people didn't have nice furniture and threw herbs on the floors to soak up household filth and hide smells. It wouldn't be much to look at if it stayed the same. At least now it looks nice. I personally don't like the white lacy ceilings.

    My uncle worked at Heaver Castle for thirty years. I was lucky enough to hear lots of stories about the castle. He often worked alone in the castle overnight he was very lucky. He did light heartedly tell me about a few bizarre experiences which I loved hearing about as a kid, and that was 35 years ago he told them to me, now being in my 40s. . I was also lucky enough to be allowed to play in the castle after closing time everynow and again... my sister saw a women on the stairs on one occasion and I recall her being very upset about it. She was younger than I and can't recall it now .. thanks for sharing.

    Thank you, Sarah, for the tour of Hever Castle! I hope to actually stay at the castle as part of a tour in the next year or two. Since I am a bit mobility challenged, I was glad to see what the staircase looked like--as long as it has a railing, I'm good! I have no beef with the updates to the castle, especially if they involve indoor plumbing :) The interior of the castle and the surrounding grounds are beautiful. I also look forward to reading your books!

    Hi
    I’ve just stumbled upon your channel. I grew up in Edenbridge a few miles from Hever. You mentioned Cobham in this video. Cobham built and lived at Starborough castle which is a couple of miles from Edenbridge. Starborough was an important place back in its day, unfortunately it was demolished during the civil war. The moat still survives and a folly was built to the north of where the castle once stood, there is now a Manor House too. Starborough was certainly linked to Hever and Penshurst, it’s mentioned in the book about Edenbridge too. I worked and looked after the castle for a few years and I tried to find out as much as I could about the place. I contacted Hever and Penshurst, unfortunately they never replied. I wonder if you’ve ever stumbled upon information about the place or know if Henry stayed at or visited the castle?

    • @sarah_noodle
      @sarah_noodle 4 года назад +2

      Bardotte There is a difference between fake and renovated during a later period. Whatever’s there is most likely mainly original-just original to a different period of time. It s important, however, to note what is replica and what isn’t

    Greetings! I’m 12 years old, learning about this in my school history class..is it okay to interview or could you answer some questions? I couldn’t find it on google so I needed help but my parents are not familiar with these and so is my friends ( I don’t have much friends ) anyways, here are the questions
    1) How is each building connected to the Tudor period?
    2) • They do some research and find out the history of the building? Explain
    3)the materials that each building may be made from? How were they build?
    Again, thank you so much for sharing this video! It helped a lot ❤️

Having read hundreds of novels and nonfiction books on the Tudors I was curious as to what your opinion is as to the year of Anne's birth and what data your opinion is based on. I'm just curious that someone so famous would have their birth so inconclusively known. Keep up the great work.
