Well... The addon is free, the program is not, and also the add-on DOESN'T support smart materials, but only normal materials to my knowledge and for what I've tried not long ago. Plus, you can download from the Substance community, for FREE, the substance assets are subscription based, but the community is free. I would also say it's bugged a lot! I would never use it, it's faster to make a Smart material in Blender, or just place a basic texture material.

The substance addon doesn't even work properly. Whenever I use a .sbsar texture (substance texture), the material turns black and the material comes in with its shader nodes disconnected. Some of the nodes in the shader editor comes in without sockets so there's no way to connect it.
I think it has a bunch of advanced features over rigify like a face library. I'm sure rigify has started to be used more currently - I think the claims come from past open movies where blenrig was used more and as updates to rigify have come, it's probably started to be used more. Blenrig is featured strongly in their prior work at Blender Studios, I don't know about current models, but Spring and stuff prior all feature blenrig characters.
Everyone starts bad. If you really like 3d, focus on learning and practicing at least 3-4 times a week, or better yet, a small project every day. Soon you'll see how much you're improving and getting great... You got this! 👍
kinda misleading as the Cracks And Damage Maker Blender Addon is in fact not free, on both gumroad and blendermarket it's priced at around 10$
