here we see a classic example of metal fatique. the repeated bending of the bar caused it to form a weakpoint in the middle of it which would not normally be a problem but due to constant daily use started to build more fatique in the material causing it to have a catastrophic failure. Its the same principle as when you bend paper clip enough times and it finaly snaps in two. this is why you replace your equipment on a gym often enough.
I'm 50+ years out of date now aged 80, (very very obviously gymnastics in my age was any different to what it is today, though I still have my antique hand guards and leather slippers as a token of that earlier age) you mentioned the sharp noise as the bar broke, which is helpful and implies the bar is still a solid bar: not a tube. Happily you seem to have escaped this incident without injury: that is the only thing that really matters., In all things the greatest possible respect, we both know that gymnastics is the one sport that every training session wants to kick you out the door because it is just so tough/dangerous. Take care young Sir' My respects.........
Wow that's one in a million I once saw a ring snap when a friend was doing a giant on rings very similar to your mishap the ring came apart it broke in half but he hung on with his other hand that was a wild thing to see.
HE TOOK THE BAR HOME 🤣🤣🤣
