The murder trial of Kuandyk Bishimbayev, a former minister and businessman in Kazakhstan, has gripped the nation and sparked widespread calls for stronger domestic violence laws. Bishimbayev, the country's former economy minister, stands accused of brutally beating his wife, Saltanat Nukenova, to death at a family restaurant in November last year. Shocking 8-hour-long CCTV footage of the attack played in the live-streamed trial in Kazakhstan, has ignited public outrage. The video shows Bishimbayev dragging his wife by hair in a restaurant in Almaty. Days after Nukenova's death, her relatives launched an online petition urging authorities to pass “Saltanat's Law” to bolster protection for those at risk of domestic violence. On April 15, Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the bill into law.

Let's not blame this all on religion. There are lots of abusive spouses (and their apologists) worldwide- in every culture and religion, unfortunately.
Indeed, even the Bible justifies stoning someone to death, for 'adultery'. And the Quran doesn't justify harsh domestic abuse (though I certainly don't justify ANY domestic abuse, in saying that. I'm just telling you what the Quran says).
The Quran actually suggests a sliding scale of punishments - admonishing your wife first; then refusing to sleep with her. Finally, 'light' physical punishment is permitted (if nothing else works).
At most, this can include 'gently' striking the wife with something like a toothbrush. But even slapping the face is banned. Reconciliation is encouraged at every stage (before escalating to the next punishment).
And in other verses, violence is generally considered deplorable - especially towards women. The Quran also requires treating wives well emotionally - with kindness, love, protection, etc. Verbal abuse in a marriage, is strongly discouraged.
So basically, this turd has no religious 'justification', to beat his wife so badly. Rather, domestic violence tends to originate in a child's family. Muslim or Christian, plenty of marriages DON'T involve domestic violence.
Instead, a child often witnesses abuse as 'normal', and sometimes continue the cycle themselves. There can then be cultural factors, that 'excuse' their behaviour. However, nothing in the Quran justifies anything close, to what this loser did to his wife. So let's not blame it on religion.

I don't know how some people are trying to justify this monster's action. Her life was cut short by her HUSBAND. He killed his first wife as well. But the case was closed and all her information became classified as soon as he became a minister. Then, he killed a child in a car accident. He just payed that child’s parents a HUGE amount of money to escape charges. He deserves a capital punishment. It’s such a shame we don’t have it in Kazakhstan.
The sources supporting this information are hard to find. But it was confirmed by the victim’s mother. Bishimbaev as well confirmed that he used to have 3 wives and his first one died in “an accident”. Given that we cannot find even HER NAME in google, it is most likely that she got killed by him.
I had a similar thought watching and reading the case. He seems to have no concerns about doing this on camera. It seems like he's gotten away with murder before and has gotten used to it.
