    What do you think of the ribbon burner? Any suggestions on tweaking it a bit?

      Looks promising :)! Maybe try to change angle of the input of the gas to 45 degree. Also, you can try to replace one of the pipe between gas and the burner to bigger one. It will create a little back pressure.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 года назад +1

      The gas mixing issue is resolved. I may try the pipe replacement but no more tweaks until it’s on the forge. Just the enclosed space will help a lot.

      Oh, one think Denis: have you calculated the forge volume for this burner? while watching this episode, I remembered why I reject idea of making air forced burner: my forge whistled

    I love waking up and having something to watch with my morning coffee!
    Burner looks good to me! The beauty of a ribbon burner is its a gentle, even flame. Not to mention much more quiet. I can’t wait to see it all together. You’re never gonna look a Venturi burners the same.

      Yes definitely. Someone (I forget who) commented on the last video that the mig tip might be an issue and they were right. I’m not sure I needed the baffle though. But it certainly didn’t hurt. Thanks for checking it out!

    Great build! I'm looking to set up a forge and propane will be much easier to manage for my current situation. I wondered about forced air as it would add oxygen to the mixture and burn hotter. My brother has a little foundry he built so has some experience building burners but not this style. I may start with an off the shelf set up and modify as I learn more.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  2 года назад +1

      A forced air is no different than a venturi when it comes to adding oxygen. It's the same concept, just that the air is introduced with a fan instead of venturi flow. The forced air takes WAY less gas and mixes better. Thanks for watching.

    • @neogator26
      @neogator26 2 года назад

      @@TyrellKnifeworks When I hear "venturi" I always think carburetors which require that low pressure area to draw in the fuel which is why they can't be boosted. But as the propane is essentially fuel injection I can force all the air stoichiometry will allow. lol

    Nice! This was definitely helpful. Lookong forward to the next build portion. Im still operating off of a hells forge single venturi. Works ok but could be better. Was going to build a new forge using one of the t-rex burners or the ribbon burner. My main concern was more so about the noise itself since I'm just operating out of a garage in suburbia.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 года назад +1

      The ribbon burners are actually quieter than Venturi burners. The blower is quieter than the “roar” of the Venturi style. They don’t sound like a Jet. 👍. Thanks for watching!

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  3 года назад +2

      I’d say watch a bunch of RUclips videos on it. If you’re considering a new forge, I would highly recommend going forced air and not a Venturi.

    Great burner build. I just finished my burner this week and I am ready to fire it up. Your video showed you testing the burner at .5 psi. What psi setting do you use at startup? Thanks

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  2 года назад

      For forge welding and when starting it up I run it at around 2-3 psi. For normal operation it's around 1 or maybe 2 psi depending on what I'm doing. Thanks for checking it out, Ben!

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  2 года назад

      There are a bunch of videos that go into detail. You just pipe the air from the blower then inject the gas into that with a 3/16 orifice. Email me if you have questions.

    How do you know what size ribbon burner. I have a 17x8 inch chamber will a 6x3 in ribbon burner work or do I need a 8x3 or 6x4 how do you know or figure it out.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks
      @TyrellKnifeworks  2 года назад

      The mistake I made was not using a long enough burner. Won’t worry about width, it’s about the length. I would go you’re forge length -8”, that gives you 4” from each opening to the burner do you have no cold spots at each end.

    • @TyrellKnifeworks

      For yours, I would use a 2x10”.

    Same 6 inch burner as mine.. looks almost identical..lol.. I'm gunna try to put a larger blower on it and see if it produces forge welding heat better.. it is much better for regular forging and uses about a quarter of the propane...yours looks awesome! Can't wait to see the finished forge..

      Yup almost the same. Mine was built with 3” square tube and its 8”. I heard one key is to have enough holes to equal the area of a cross section of your piping. If you have to many holes you need a much stronger blower.
