I'm so confused that people don't think she's that good. I've done Yagp for 3 years and have made it to New York for every year and got 1st both this and last year. I think she's one of the best Yagp performances ever🙌🏻
Just letting everyone know she was really young here and already so incredibly talented. Beckanne has been working on her hands, come on guys we all have flaws. She's polished her artistry and technique and is now dancing lead roles her second year at Ballet West.
I think for her age she had obvious tremendous potential and talent. The few things I think that needed to be polished out ( like her wrists) were quickly fixed by the ballet west staff. She was the sole reason I watched the show Breaking Pointe. she is unreal now. I totally agree there. At this moment though she was just beautiful diamond that just needed a little polishing. I think she's worthy of being an NYCB principal dancer to be honest but they are just my favorite company
@@sophian9105 Not an armchair critic, a ballet teacher. And I've heard her say herself that at this age she hadn't really grown into herself yet. She has amazing balance and extensions here, but her arms in particular are a bit rough. There's also a few times where she doesn't seem quite sure where her head should be pointing. Every dancer goes through a transition where their arm movements go from "put my arm here, then move it here," to really flowing through the positions. For most dancers, this happens sometime between 16 and 19. In this video, she has not get transitioned, and it shows. Her arms look like those of a sixteen year old, because she IS sixteen. She's clearly a gifted dancer (and a daring dancer... that's a HARD variation!), but in this video she's not yet a mature dancer. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Beckanne is amazing !!!!!!!! She definently didnt pay to get in. This girl has talent and she is a natural at dance!!!!!! Everyone who doesnt like this video does not have any dance experience and are totally annoying! I go to rock and they train there dancers in the best way and Beckannes hard work really pays off! I would like to know how you are doing at Ballet West and hope u no all these people are totally wrong beautiful job!!!!!!!!!
One of he things I love about Beckanne is that she is sharp yet she retains that elegance needed for the classical ballet. Her movements are precise and fluid at the same time. I think her hands could be a bit softer, but I'm sure they have in the years since this performance. I think she's great.
blossomingballerina her hands / wrist last are actually Russian style. Nothing wrong with her wrists and arms. They are used on purpose to portray sharpness and accent
OMG she has inspired me so much! yeah her hand weren't perfect, and maybe she didn't have that great of stage presence, but she is a heck of lot better than me. I hope she won the gold in her category! I can't imagine how amazing she will be when shes an adult!
Artistry is something that develops more over time. She is now dancing with Ballet West so hmm...yes pretty sure she is a good dancer! Everyone has things to work on, sure, but overall she has a lot of talent and will have a great career in dance!
ellatheingenue What I mean is, high extensions are great (and pretty much a basic requirement for ballet dancers, for some time now) BUT, they must be accompanied by the knowledge of when to employ them, & to what degree. There are so many choices & decisions to make, having to do with style, nuance, variation in dynamics, etc., when preparing any dance. One frequent issue is what degree of extension height to employ; just because one can put ones leg up to a particular height does not necessarily mean that is the right thing to do at any particular point in a piece. Legs constantly going up to the max gets boring & often tacky, no matter how impressive the flexibility. My impression is that Becknne S. has developed quite a bit in artistry since this video was made. I'd love to see her dance live.
Go to Utah, she is now a principal at Ballet West. I think they have quite a few performances each year, so there is plenty of time to see her in one year.
Beckanne has a lovely face and beautiful feet, but her hands are a disaster! For me, they detract from every performance I see her in. And many times, her hips are out of alignment. For example in Breaking Pointe, she performs La Esmerald variation. her pelvis in thrust backward. I cringe when I see that! Why does her coach/AD not call her out on that?
Have you ever done this competition. They are all about big crazy things and tricks. I’ve won 3 years in a row for males, and though I had great technique, you do all the craziest tricks when you perform because you have 1 minute to prove your skill. This isn’t a classical performance, it’s a 1 minute period to show your craziest tricks. Her performance is exactly what they’re expecting and she blew me away
Boy, oh boy. Thank god this site didn't exist when I was still dancing. The types of comments below would have made me want to slit my wrists. Ease up, guys.
@@jinx3706 Perhaps. This was 11 years ago. Her arms are perfect, now. I can assure you. She is now the top female Principal artist with Ballet West, and I see her dance regularly. She was flawless in Giselle.
i really like it.. its very impressive.. this variation is very hard.. all the ballet dancers that i have seen dancing it.. always falls down.. but well.. she really do it great.. !! continue working.. youre in a good way... love your arabesque..!!
There's no need to be bring negativity on someone else that's learning; sure, I'm a dancer but not a professional, and I can see her errors and flaws, and how her performance technique is not fully developed, but I can also see the POTENTIAL in her. You can see her bringing focus to certain areas of her work and developing more control, and also letting herself go when she needs to-like for her jaw-dropping extensions that look easier than breathing!
sierra2957 noones bashing her. Just because we don't dance doesn't mean we can't appreciate the nuances or lack of. Of course she's on a level with other dancers that's quite excellent. Ridiculous.
no, i meant the thing with the rock... i know she's in breaking pointe, that's how i came acros her and i'm really happy i did, becuase she is just a wonderful dancer! :D and she answers tweets which is very nice. i think she's a beautiful person

She is obviously a gorgeous dancer with amazing natural facility, I think the issue here is yes, she still has room to grow, but also because she is so tall with such extension any minor issues are amplified. If I was her coach, we'd just work her transitions, moving from position to the next. Dance happens in the transitions and I think that is the "choppy" quality that perhaps people are noticing. But again, she's awesome.
wow. she's such a beast. yes, she's thinking about steps a little bit but she's so young. so. have you seen those arabesques? unforgettable. i'm surprised by number of haters. i'm too lazy to read comments tho :))
I don't get all the criticisms. Do you even know her age? Were you even half as good at her age or even in your lifetime? Why are we always quick to put someone down instead of encourage each other to be better? I'm so ashamed to be part of the human race sometimes. The girl is amazing and let's leave it at that.

@dogluver2031 What you say is true: "That type of extension takes A LOT of training, A LOT of hard work, A LOT of flexibility, and A LOT of strength!" It also requires a lot of taste, artistry and discernment to know when, how, and when NOT to use it. As much work as evidently went into this variation, and as much talent and ability as it shows, there's something a bit icky about it; it does not delight the way it should. Probably by now Ms. Sisk has grown and improved in that regard.
I was in BW where she is currently dancing right now. I say hell yeah that she did not become a Balanchine dancer. Mr.B's work has been performed in a super outdated boring fashion nowadays and it should be a common sense. Ask any young folks what they think about Balanchine.
Yes, I understand your comments, and you’re right, she has come a long way since this video. And yes, she still has some things she needs to work on; she’s maybe too flexible, for one, but has recently earned a well-deserved place as demi-soloist at Ballet West. I saw her dance the SPF at BW’s Nutcracker this season and she was phenomenal. Maybe you have to see her live to appreciate her incredible stage presence and stunning beauty as a dancer.

@DRaeXOX Watch Larissa Lezhnina's Diana. It's absolutely mesmerizing, and she has half of the extension Beckanne does- plus, she does arabesques the whole time, not penches (in her version). THAT'S a real dancer. It's like what hnballerina said, "Impressive doesn't always mean 'good'".
